This is perhaps my least favorite part of the movie. Not because it is boring or unbeautiful or anything, just because it feels like the part that fits least with the rest of it. This came up last Monday when procrastinitrix asked it, and I thought it might be a fun question for us to all toss around. And another little break in the Jab Harry Met Sejal coverage, which is no doubt irritating for those of you who haven’t seen it/don’t want to see it.
We all know that Hindi film loves a love triangle. And usually a blameless love triangle, two good options and one of them loses out through no fault of their own. So, I thought, why not give a happy ending to all of love’s losers? And, just to make this more fun, why not cross streams and give happy endings to losers from different films? And why not make an easy post in which I rapidly run through a whole bunch of different plots without a lot of details?
Moviemavengal is on youtube, a couple of commentators pointed out if I want to drive up my blog views youtube is the place, and I was trapped all day Sunday in the only airconditioned room in my apartment with loads of time to work. So, it was time.
Mad at me, but still willing to help, having sensed that my blog views were way way down over the past few days, he provided me with content. See, even when we are in a fight, he still cares.

I already had to stop my box office posts when I got regular with Hindi Film 101, this may mean the end of birthday and/or trailer news posts. This is one of my least popular, and most difficult, blog series. It’s hardcore analysis, social and shot by shot and narrative and history of the film industry and history of India and everything I have ever learned all in one place. I am up to section 20 now, and 100 screen shots, and I am barely past intermission. But I thought I should probably just put together an index post to make it easy for latecomers to catch up. And hopefully get a few more readers to justify the amount of effort I am putting in!
Continue readingOkay, after all of the boring place setting stuff to get us into the second half, we finally have a really meaty scene! And it’s also the scene that illustrates the alternative theory of the film. The surface obvious theory, the one that all the critics talk about and so on, is the resolution of the NRI identity/tragedy of the immigrant theory. It’s Aditya Chopra’s birthday today, but I don’t want to make a big fuss, because it seems like he isn’t the kind of guy who likes a big fuss. With that in mind, I will celebrate by letting his work speak for itself. And I will do 28 reasons, one for every year since he started working in film. It’s DDLJ Detailed Analysis: The Return!!! I always swore I would come back to it, and now I have! Because of Bahubali 2, which got my close analysis juices flowing. And which is also sooooooooo boring for those people who haven’t seen Bahubali 2. But who hasn’t seen DDLJ? No one!
