I just watched Azhar, which was terrible, but which also posited that Azhar and Sangeeta was a BIG DEAL because it was the first time Cricket and film had overlapped. To which my reaction was “Oh please!”
Last night, Shahrukh basically acted as India’s foreign finance minister. And it looked a lot more fun than when the royals were here and he acted as India’s British ambassador.
News update! Besides the haircut, there are some juicy/political things popping up. Exciting! But mostly it’s about the hair.
I should be used to it by now, but I am continually impressed by how slooooooooooooow the Indian courts are. So now, a mere 3 years after her death her case is moving through the courts.
That feels sudden! Because I barely knew she was dating anyone. Because, sadly, the media isn’t exactly falling over itself keeping me up to date with the goings on of Amrita Rao.
Priety’s married! For real now, because we have pictures. Including photos of her husband “Gene Goodenough” (still sounds like the name of a cartoon character).
Oh man, I hate this! When the news stories are about stars being selfish and horrible instead of surprisingly kind and generous. Although, I guess it is only news because we are so used to the other stories in which they are kind and generous.
Most of these were released a couple of days ago, I just haven’t gotten around to watching them yet. Because I’m not terribly excited about any of them. So I am going to squeeze them all into one post.
Slow Monday, with no big releases last Friday and no new Hrithik-Kangana news, or any other scandal coming up to oust them off the front pages. But there are a couple of interesting sort of industrial notes.

The internet is buzzing today over a blind item in the Mumbai Mirror which seemed to be referring to Salman’s potential marriage to his longtime rumored girlfriend, Romanian Iulia Vantur. But I don’t know if I believe it.
It’s like, every time I turn on the computer today there is new and exciting information available!
I go to sleep, and twitter blows up with news! Being in the exactly opposite time zone as India is not good!
The commentator “E” just alerted me this morning that Dharma announced a “sequel” to Humpty Sharma ki Dulhania, called Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya. Sure enough, when I pulled up my twitter, I saw that Karan had just tweeted the image above. Which looks like a sequel image, but rumor has it that it may be a franchise instead, a completely different story with different characters, but the same cast and tone. Like the Khiladi films, or Murder, or Aashiqui. Speaking of Aashiqui, a little insulting for Karan to be promoting this as India’s first love franchise, right?
Happy May Day/Labor Day! For an industry that is also dismissed as being frivolous and full of fantasy, Indian film really has a lot of songs about work!

Thanks to Amitabh’s twitter, I just learned that 4/29/2016 is International Dance Day. I had a half moment of thinking someone was punking him, but a bit of googling confirmed that it is actually a thing! Created by the International Dance Council, a UNESCO partner group. Which means it is enough of a thing that I can celebrate by posting the best, or at least my favorite, dances! Well, some of them. Shakespeare died exactly 400 years ago today, which I just learned from a google doodle. I’m not really a person who celebrates death anniversaries, except for Shakespeare and Lincoln, my two favorite dead people. And for his 400th death anniversary, I thought I really should do something special.
So, this thing was posted 3 days ago, and all sorts of people told me I HAD to watch it, but I didn’t do it until just now, because I was very busy working and then immediately going to the theater and seeing Fan again. But now that I have, I am just as fascinated as everyone told me I would be!
News Round-Up! Yes, the continuing first week of Fan is the most important entertainment news in my world/India, but other people also insist on existing and having things happen at the same time.
In one of my reviews of Fan, I mentioned that I couldn’t believe with the director or the writer listed in the credits were the people who really come up with the ideas, because they were just workmanlike Yash Raj studio directors, full of rom-coms and bright colors and songs and happiness. But today an interview came out with Maneesh Sharma, and turns out, it was all him after all! And also, I may be a little bit in love.
First day figures are out! And it looks really good! Which is great, because it is a really really good movie, and I want it to make money, so more people make really really good movies.
