We were just talking about against the grain readings and I realized that I had Lover Come Back stored on my TV, one of the biggest against the grain movies of Hollywood. And then I watched it and realized it hits that sweet spot of romance with social commentary all baked in that I like. Plus ten gabillion moments of “we all know that Rock Hudson is gay and are having a super fun time playing with the audience not knowing that Rock Hudson is gay”.

Well, this was a grumpy day. I kept starting and stopping Zero while watching the cleaning person clean and realizing that the only person who cleans to my standards is me and it is VERY FRUSTRATING watching someone else clean not quite as well. Watching Zero again did not necessarily make me less grumpy. Although at least I had the little treasure hunt for the things that were changed (why? how? what?) to keep me busy!

First, most importantly, ANGIE! And all other Maddy Fans! Maddy is in it for about 15 minutes cumulatively and all he does is stand there looking solid and sensitive in glasses with shaggy hair. Barely has a character. But looks quite good. Everyone else: this movie was a disappointment, but probably still more enjoyable if you go in fresh than if you go in SPOILED. This review is for those who absolutely cannot see it in theaters, or who have already seen it and want to discuss.

DISCLAIMER: This was written after my first watch. It took my second watch to understand some of the film, and it took my 3rd watch to really see it for what it was, and it took my 4th watch and my scene by scene to fully appreciate it. Anyway, an interesting time capsule of a first response!
No Spoilers review is already up, time for SPOILERS! And then, sometime next week, I start the slow crawl through the scene by scene. Because yes, this movie is good enough to deserve it. Happy Wednesday Shahrukh Review day! Aw, only one left after this. That’s sad. But, it has given me a chance to crank through some of his films that I hadn’t gotten around to addressing before.
Silly Sunday: Fake Marriage Romances, One of the Best Romance Tropes, Featuring Aditya-Anushka, Ranveer-Dips, and SRKajol
Moviemavengal confessed her love for the “fake marriage” romance trope, and it’s one I like quite a bit as well. And it’s pretty rare in Indian film, replaced by “real arranged marriage becomes love” which isn’t quite the same thing. So I shall write a few script suggestions just in case anyone needs any! (oh, and if you want to see one that already exists, check out Love By Square Foot on Netflix)

Sui Dhaaga First Song, and I Kind of Love It!!!!
This is such a nice song. Of that particular kind of love song that isn’t making big statements either with the lyrics or the visuals, just showing the everyday kind of love. Which makes me hope that the movie as a whole will show us that kind of love too.
