It finally released! And I decided it deserved it’s very own post. Generally looks like a decent movie (Mahesh could make no less), but also some interesting context.Continue reading
I’m excited! Disney is now in India, for realsies, and I love the classic Disney fairy tales for their strong central female characters. Time for an imaginary rewrite!Continue reading
Kalank! If you have a lot of time on your hands, a Prime subscription, and laundry to fold, this is worth watching. But not otherwise.Continue reading
Still watching Hart of Dixie which does really good love triangles, and it has inspired me to try and see what I can come up with as potential Indian film triangles. Not easy ones where it’s a choice between love and duty, but ones where there are two viable “love” options.Continue reading
Don’t spoil yourself! Unless you already know a sex violence and magical young love story movie is not for you. In which case, SPOIL yourself! And laugh and laugh and laugh. This plot is real real dumb.Continue reading
This is a silly silly movie. Violence, sex, shirtlessness, catchy songs, it has everything. And a pretty decent twisted plot too!Continue reading
Thank you Angie and Alisa/BollywoodNewbie for alerting me to the arrival of two really good trailers! I make no promises for the quality of the eventual movies, there’s many a slip twixt cup and lip, but the trailers look good!Continue reading
I have Ideas!!!! And you can pick and choose among them. Don’t limit yourself, if this is like the Bond or Mission Impossible films, it could go on and on and on with a different love interest each time. Pick one, or two, or three!Continue reading
Part 2! Not that these are less important stories, I just happened to write about them second.Continue reading
If everyone in Hindi film just sent all their scripts to me for a final pass before filming began, everything would be so much better. I can fix it all! Just give me a chance before you spend crores and crores of budget on a movie with an ending that MAKES NO SENSE. Oh and Kalank spoilers, obviously, only read if you have seen the movie. And if you have seen the movie, please give me your opinion and suggestions for other better endings!Continue reading
What an interesting love quadrangle! I really really like the central set-up concept for this film, and kind of wish it could have been moved out of pre-partition India and into a regular rom-com setting. And really, if you like romances, you should watch it. Don’t spoil yourself! Read my no spoiler review instead.Continue reading
Well, that was fun!!!! If it had released 20 years ago, it would be a solid hit and forgotten in a month, and then it would pop-up on TV occasionally and people would say “oh yeah, that movie!” I don’t know how it will do in today’s world at the box office, but at least critically I want to treat it as the nice unambitious pleasant fairy tale it aspires to be, not as the Great Noble Brilliant Movie that it wasn’t even trying to be. I suspect other reviewers might ding it for not being the Great Noble Brilliant Movie they thing it should be without realizing it never wanted to be that.Continue reading
Well, this is a fun song! And an extremely blatantly “we aren’t even trying” historically inaccurate song. Yaaaay! I love when movies stop trying and tell us they aren’t trying! Way better than pretending to be trying but not really.Continue reading
Well, it’s pretty much what we thought. I think. No subtitles, because Dharma hates us. And then they will magically appear in like 3 hours. WHY DO THEY DO THIS???? Oh, and I actually did 5 minutes of research and confirmed that it is NOT based on What the Body Remembers any more than Paa was based on Benjamin Buttons (yes, that was a story for a while too).Continue reading
I promised to write this review for Valentine’s Week and then I missed it, so I am squeezing it in now instead. Oh well, I didn’t have anything else planned for today anyway.Continue reading
I would say “why didn’t anyone tell me how good this movie is?”, but then there have been people screaming at me in the comments to watch it for months now, so I can’t really say that. Anyway, it’s good! Really good! Running Shaadi good (my gold standard for overlooked brilliant little rom-coms).Continue reading
I had such fun re-writing one strange memorable 60s Hollywood teen film last week, I thought I might try again this week. Especially because this one has the PERFECT role for Shahrukh. Oh, and it is also very VERY long. And not necessarily good, I just wrote myself into a plot hole and it took a while to write myself out.Continue reading

Moviemavengal confessed her love for the “fake marriage” romance trope, and it’s one I like quite a bit as well. And it’s pretty rare in Indian film, replaced by “real arranged marriage becomes love” which isn’t quite the same thing. So I shall write a few script suggestions just in case anyone needs any! (oh, and if you want to see one that already exists, check out Love By Square Foot on Netflix)
I can’t stop myself! I keep looking at Sonam wedding videos! And, thanks to the latest batch, I now have several competing “ships” that I am rooting for. And I am sharing them with you, in the hope of either getting companions on board the SS Relationship, or else getting a solid common sense mind to drag me off.
Did you think I put up my traditional Good Friday “Hot Jesus” post and forgot my Jewish readers and Passover, on the very same day? I would NEVER!!!! And so a second TGIF post, based on the Ma Nishtana, the 4 questions part of the Haggadah, the instructions on how to properly celebrate Passover.
Oh boy, lots of interesting movies to talk about today! None of which are actually out there in the world yet, but that doesn’t mean we can’t talk about them
This is a sort of updated post, but really totally new. I put it up for Rosh Hashanah a couple years ago, but back then I didn’t even know Aditya Roy Kapoor was Jewish, so it was woefully incomplete. Not to say that this post is complete, but it is at least more complete than the previous one.
This is just because I have been watching Cheers and now I can’t get the idea of a remake out of my head. So I had to dig up a few more TV show options as well, just to round out the post. Feel free to give me suggestions in the comments for more I could use if I missed your favorite! Especially since my TV taste trends towards the classic.
