I did it! A two movie week! So I was able to see both the northern and southern big Diwali release. And although I really didn’t like the Hindi film, I didn’t like the Tamil film EVEN MORE.
I feel bad only giving her a dozen, but on the other hand I am going to be posting two reviews of her movies this week (Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman on Friday and Aaina on Sunday).
I love this movie. You don’t have to, but I really really do. It’s real people playing at the usual filmi romance, and discovering their own version of it along the way. And my review will be reposted next Monday, 11/19.
This is so exciting! A big box office story after far too long! And all over the world, America to Germany to Malaysia, everywhere is interesting! Well, if you are a number obsessed person like me. (as always, numbers from bollywoodhungama)
Oh man is this a cute cute cute cute cute movie! So happy and sweet and innocent and 90s. And clear plastic backpack-y. And it might now be my favorite Shalini rom-com, even nudging out Alaipayuthay.
Happy Veterans Day! Yesterday was the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI and there weren’t nearly as many celebrations as I expected. I guess 100 years from now everything we are going through will seem very small and out of date too. That’s kind of comforting. Anyway, enough of that, hot guys in uniform!
Happy My-Father’s-Birthday week!!!! To celebrate, I am going out of town. It was the only weekend I could visit my sister between now and, like, May. But I will try to make up for it and be a good daughter by making sure you are all VERY AWARE that it is my father’s birthday this week. 66! That’s a semi-big deal! Or at least, very cool to be matching digits.
Huh! One of the best episodes so far, and I would not have expected that! Just the right mood and the right chemistry I guess, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
Two separate Juhi reviews next week! What fun for you! Plus Amrita Singh is in both of them! Huh, that’s weird. Oh well, I won’t think too much about it.

I watched Khoobsurat for the 4th time last night (I missed it in theaters, but have seen it 4 times on DVD after a friend told me I HAD to watch it). It’s just as good as it ever was, but it’s also a whole different experience watching it having just seen Neerja. In all sorts of ways.
Huh. All major YRF films. YRF SHOULD HIRE ME TO HEAD A “PERIOD REMAKES” DIVISION!!!!!! These would all be so much better and use their historical period in far more interesting ways than Thugs of Hindostan did.
On my second watch (kidnapped by my friend Dina and forced to rewatch it), I amused myself by picturing the film without Aamir as part of it. And you know, it works! There is no actual narrative need for Aamir to be there. Here, I’ll show you. Oh, and this will make a lot more sense if you’ve already seen the movie.

Happy Saturday! Today is the day I do NOTHING. I am very excited about this. Of course, Dog Hazel will still drag me outside for our daily walks, and I should probably buy milk, but otherwise NOTHING. And you can join me in my nothing by lazily talking about gossip stories.
I may be failing at my “only have coffee three times a week and then the caffeine doesn’t get to you” system. I am sitting in my office on a no-caffeine day dreaming of coffee. Maybe I should get a hot chocolate instead and see if I can trick myself.
Sorry, I know the headline is lame, but my Grandma is up in heaven reading this blog everyday and she would never forgive me if I used actual swears, especially since it is her birthday tomorrow. Just fill in that I actually meant the-real-word-for-“Heck”.
Happy Friday! Finally got to the end of the week! Phew. And as a reward, a completely fun and silly movie and a completely fun and silly review.
I already put up my No Spoilers review, you can read that if you want to avoid spoilers. Most of the fun of the movie is in the action set-pieces which I can’t really spoil, so you don’t have to be that careful about it, read this review if you want. Oh, and this review is a little short because I am planning to do a semi-scene by scene for this film. Probably more like first half/second half, but the structure and visuals were interesting enough that I want to dissect them piece by piece over the next few days.
Well, that was odd! A movie with a lot of depth and meaning and purpose that somehow got shrunk and diminished until it became meaningless and small and ugly. Huh. Oh, but the action scenes are still kind of fun, you should still watch it for that if you want.
I hung out with a baby last night and it made me so happy, so I wanted to share it with you, because she is a truly excellent baby (don’t worry, I got permission from her parents to use the photos).
