Well, this was as expected mostly! Enjoyable, fun, all of that. And yet (having just rewatched the original), I found myself thinking “it just doesn’t feel the same”.

Happy Varun Dhawan Day! Badrinath Review! VERY LONG
Well, we have now reached the movies I saw in theaters and reviewed in full right after watching them instead of reviewing them based on memory ages after they came out. So, LOOONG.
Continue readingHappy Varun Dhawan Day! Dilwale, His Shahrukh Movie
This was I think the first movie I reviewed. Oh the nostalgia! Anyway, I wrote 3 reviews, this post is going to combine them all into one.
Continue readingHappy Varun Dhawan Day! Humpty Sharma Part 2
I already compared and contrasted the first halves of DDLJ and Humpty. And that got so long that I decided to break at intermission and talk about the second half today. This may be slightly too much thought to put in to Humpty (although it is a very good movie. With a terrible title), but it is interesting as an example of how DDLJ has forever changed and influenced the Indian romance film.
Continue readingHappy Varun Dhawan Day! Humpty Sharma Part 1
I wrote this post while I was in the middle of my DDLJ recap. So I was hyper aware of what this movie took from DDLJ and what it got rid of.
Continue readingHappy Varun Dhawan Day! Student of the Year, His First Film
Happy Varun Dhawan Day! Shockingly, I have reviewed all but one of his films. And I will be posting those reviews all day.
Continue readingSilly Sunday: Kalank Without Alia, and Other Script Fixes
If everyone in Hindi film just sent all their scripts to me for a final pass before filming began, everything would be so much better. I can fix it all! Just give me a chance before you spend crores and crores of budget on a movie with an ending that MAKES NO SENSE. Oh and Kalank spoilers, obviously, only read if you have seen the movie. And if you have seen the movie, please give me your opinion and suggestions for other better endings!
Continue readingKalank Review (SPOILERS): First Love is True Love is Only Love
What an interesting love quadrangle! I really really like the central set-up concept for this film, and kind of wish it could have been moved out of pre-partition India and into a regular rom-com setting. And really, if you like romances, you should watch it. Don’t spoil yourself! Read my no spoiler review instead.
Continue readingKalank Review (No Spoilers): The Plot is Not What You Think It Is
Well, that was fun!!!! If it had released 20 years ago, it would be a solid hit and forgotten in a month, and then it would pop-up on TV occasionally and people would say “oh yeah, that movie!” I don’t know how it will do in today’s world at the box office, but at least critically I want to treat it as the nice unambitious pleasant fairy tale it aspires to be, not as the Great Noble Brilliant Movie that it wasn’t even trying to be. I suspect other reviewers might ding it for not being the Great Noble Brilliant Movie they thing it should be without realizing it never wanted to be that.
Continue readingNew Kalank Song! I Guess Aditya and Varun Are Friends?
Well, this is a fun song! And an extremely blatantly “we aren’t even trying” historically inaccurate song. Yaaaay! I love when movies stop trying and tell us they aren’t trying! Way better than pretending to be trying but not really.
Continue readingNews Round-Up/Discussion Post: K-Pop and Korea Arrives, Janvhi is Innocent, SRK Sells Movies, Kajol-Ajay Move House, Nyssa is Trolled, Alia and Osho, Kangana Directs, Varun is Stalked, Nawazuddin Pulls Muscle
So many little little stories today! I don’t want to try to tie them together and they aren’t really worth deep discussion on their own, so instead I will throw it all out there and let you discuss.
Continue readingKalank Full Length Trailer is Out!!!! (Also, it’s not based on What the Body Remembers)
Well, it’s pretty much what we thought. I think. No subtitles, because Dharma hates us. And then they will magically appear in like 3 hours. WHY DO THEY DO THIS???? Oh, and I actually did 5 minutes of research and confirmed that it is NOT based on What the Body Remembers any more than Paa was based on Benjamin Buttons (yes, that was a story for a while too).
Continue readingSaturday Small Talk: I’m on Vacation! (and Kalank trailer)
Happy Saturday! I’m not even going to apologize for posting less yesterday, I’m on vacation! I deserve a break!
Continue readingNew Kalank Song! Alia Dances, Madhuri Doesn’t, WHY????
New Kalank song! Really lovely visuals, very “big” feeling. And a pretty nice sound, but not mindblowing. Although it is also the kind of song that sometimes isn’t mindblowing on the first listen, and then sticks in your mind.
Continue readingSilly Sunday: 14 Romances for Valentine’s Day, Part 2
Happy Valentine’s Week!!!!! I already did part one (here), and it got one pity comment from my sister and very few views, but I don’t care, this is my Valentine’s present to myself. So I’m doing Part 2 anyway!
Continue readingHappy News Items: Arjun Kapoor’s Body to Karan’s Twins
I am continuing my attempt to not let the weather get me down (I think I may need to pay gobs of money for last minute tickets to Florida or something. February in Chicago is REALLY REALLY HARD). So, here are news items that are completely unimportant and yet make me smile! Smile along with me!
Continue readingKatching Up With Koffee: Varun and Kat! Surprisingly Charming!
Huh! One of the best episodes so far, and I would not have expected that! Just the right mood and the right chemistry I guess, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
Sui Dhaaga Review (SPOILERS): A Love Story and a business story, working together like needle and thread
This is a nice pleasant pretty predictable movie, one of those that it is kind of hard to spoil because you can probably guess most of it. But just in case you really really don’t want to be spoiled, you can read my No Spoilers review instead of this one.
Sui Dhaaga Review (No Spoilers): Love and Economics
I am so tired. Forgive the (even more than usual) typos I will be making, it’s very late. But I have to get up early tomorrow and drive up to my parents, so I want to write the reviews tonight and be done with them.
News Round-Up: Kangana Loses a Movie, PC Gains an Ad Campaign, Ajay and Varun Get New Images
Have I mentioned before how HORRIBLE the Indian press is? It’s HORRIBLE!!!!! And now I have to do an Priyanka story AGAIN just because I seem to be the only one doing the 10 seconds of research required to present it accurately. Why do you make me do this, Bollywoodhungama “reporters”??????? (and now you are thinking “why is Margaret complaining? it’s her own fault for reading BH.” And I know, you’re right.)
Silly Sunday: Couples We Want to See, Varun-Parineeti to Arjun-Anushka to Swara-Ajay to Varun-Bhumi to Alia-Ayushmann
These are really stories you wrote yourself. Or at least started yourself, on the Wednesday post I had a wonderful time coming up with ideas based on the casts you wanted to see. These are those same ideas, just brushed up and expanded a little bit.
Wednesday Watching: What Are You Reading and Watching and Thinking This Week?
Happy Wednesday! Time to talk about what we’ve all been doing this week and share movie and book and article recommendations and everything else happening in our lives.
Sui Dhaaga First Song, and I Kind of Love It!!!!
This is such a nice song. Of that particular kind of love song that isn’t making big statements either with the lyrics or the visuals, just showing the everyday kind of love. Which makes me hope that the movie as a whole will show us that kind of love too.
Sui Dhaaga Trailer! I Think They Might Manage to Pull This Off
What an interesting looking movie! And what an interesting movie for this studio to make with these stars at this moment.
Silly Sunday: Hindi LM Montgomery, Shahrukh as a Dashing Mature Man Romancing Shy Old Maid Tabu
Okay, prepare yourself for a very very deep cut. This is my absolute favorite LM Montgomery short story. So, not an “Anne” book, and not one of her other lessor series either. And not even from the first short story collection Chronicles of Avonlea, but aaaaallllll the way in Further Chronicles of Avonlea. But it’s SO GOOD!!!! How can I resist I remake? And it is just crying out for Shahrukh.
