Wish Me Luck, I’m Going in for Toe Surgery!

I wrote and scheduled this post a week ago, if that jinxed my surgery and it isn’t actually happening for some reason, I am holding you all responsible. And I am increasingly sure that this surgery is jinxed, it has been an almost impossible disaster start to finish (labs missing, doctors not sending in paperwork, labs not receiving prescriptions, so many hours of me on the phone advocating for myself), so don’t be surprised if I put up a post in a few hours saying “surgery canceled, I am very depressed and hiding in bed”.

I love escaping to a world of 12 years old, when your parents had the house and food and clothes and stuff responsibilities, and you just had to solve mysteries and fight and make up with friends and so on.  Usually I escape in bookform (Trixie Belden, woot-woot!), but there are two high quality TV shows (like, seriously high quality, not just kids shows) that I have been saving for a special occasion and now I am binging and I DESPERATELY want them remade in India.  Only with the focus on the parents.

I am getting soooooooooooooo stressed about my surgery on Friday. I’m terrified something’s going to come up and I won’t be able to have it after all, and I am considerably less worried about having it and something logistical not going right (parents late to pick me up, forget something I should have packed, etc). Wednesday Watching Post: What Are You Reading and Watching and Thinking and Listening to the Week of My TOE SURGERY???

Happy Wednesday! It suddenly occurred to me last night, while writing yet another detailed email to my family with toe updates, that my mother had almost the same operation a few years ago, and my sister had a broken shoulder, and my Dad had a whole bunch of things I don’t even know about, without nearly as much worry. Is it possible that I am overly obsessive and stressed about having a minor surgery? Or is it that toe surgery is in fact the most complex and stressful health problem you can possibly have? Oh right, my sister also gave birth. Anyway, TOE SURGERY! The most difficult health problem of our time! (or I am a worrywart who hates being out of control and likes planning things to the inth degree)

Hindi Film 101: Abhishek Bachchan, the Quiet Prince

I just wrote about Aish and was surprised that I hadn’t written about her before. In contrast, with Abhishek I know I haven’t written about him before and I’m not quite comfortable even know. He is growing so much before our eyes, I don’t think anything I write now will be the end of his story, I don’t think I can even predict how his story will end.

Still not selling me on the twist!  Still ends up in less rather than more tension.  But there are some interesting misunderstandings in this episode which make it work a little bit better than the last episode.  And some careful foregrounding of new plot conflicts in hopes of getting the audience interested in them. Breathe Season 2 Episode 7: The Stakes Get Lower

Well, the show is struggling a bit to come back from that really not very logical twist.  It tries to build up more of a backstory for how it happened, but the bigger issue is that it makes the stakes so much lower, and therefore the tension we need to want to keep walking has kind of gone away. Breathe Season 2 Episode 6: TWIST!!!!

Well, on the one hand, I don’t like this ridiculous implausible twist.  But on the other hand, it kind of sideways adds a tension to the danger in this particular episode.  If the show manages to use it in that way moving forward, changing the layers of tension we see onscreen, I won’t mind it.

Now I’m getting a little worried.  A lot moves forward in this episode, and we aren’t even halfway down with the season.  Which means in order to not resolve it all within the next couple episodes, there will have to be some pretty ridiculous twists.  Or maybe not!  Maybe they will pull it off.  But I’m worried.
