I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed this movie before! It’s so good, and so different from really anything else out there. Thoughtful, complex, and with a hero who is more about quiet thinking than quick action.

Yes, I know it isn’t Christmas yet, but I just barely managed to finish my Delhi 6 review at work and I still have to do blechy end of month work stuff today, so you are going to have to be happy with a TGIF rerun (although there’s a couple new photos). Happy Saturday! Today is the day I do NOTHING. I am very excited about this. Of course, Dog Hazel will still drag me outside for our daily walks, and I should probably buy milk, but otherwise NOTHING. And you can join me in my nothing by lazily talking about gossip stories.
I already put up my No Spoilers review, you can read that if you want to avoid spoilers. Most of the fun of the movie is in the action set-pieces which I can’t really spoil, so you don’t have to be that careful about it, read this review if you want. Oh, and this review is a little short because I am planning to do a semi-scene by scene for this film. Probably more like first half/second half, but the structure and visuals were interesting enough that I want to dissect them piece by piece over the next few days.
Well, that was odd! A movie with a lot of depth and meaning and purpose that somehow got shrunk and diminished until it became meaningless and small and ugly. Huh. Oh, but the action scenes are still kind of fun, you should still watch it for that if you want.
Well, that was boring. It’s been a boring season in general, but this one was particularly energyless. Aamir really needs someone with him, I loved him last year with the two actresses, and his Kiran episode is adorable, but this was mostly just bleh.
This is inspired largely by the first two episodes of this season of Koffee with Karan, both of which put together two stars (Deepika and Alia and Ranveer and Akshay) who never co-starred together and aren’t known as best friends, and yet had surprising connections.
First song! Which is kind of “ho-hum” based on what we have seen. But still something fun and festive to talk about!
Alisa/BollywoodNewbie inspired me in another post, the way she does, by pointing out something I was so lost in that I was blind to it: Indian film plays in to certain specific types of romantic fantasies, types that do not work equally for everybody.
This is such a good post, totally deserves to be updated and re-used. Especially so we can all prepare to compare these sword emotions with the Thugs sword emotions.
Well, this is exciting!!!! Amitabh has a sword, Aamir does NOT have a beard (thank goodness), and Katrina has no dialogue. Nor does Fatima, so I guess it’s a woman thing.
Raajneeti, Sarkar, and the original film, I have been on a bit of a Godfather binge (I also rewatched 1 and 2 over the past couple days). So now the inevitable final step, writing my own version.

I thought the long Shahrukh interview post would give us plenty to talk about, but there aren’t that many comments over there. From which I can only assume, no one loves Shahrukh any more. I am sure he is desperately refreshing the page thinking “surely SOMEONE has something to say about me! Surely it can’t be that no one is interested any more?” Anyway, since you all find Shahrukh boring, I will bring up a new topic for us to talk about.
I already put up the challenge post, lips with no faces, just to see if you can match them up. Here is the reunion of the whole face no longer in pieces. Just to sooth you if you found those orphan lip images as disturbing as I did.
Salman didn’t give us the big family Eid photo, which is fine, it’s not the big big Eid. Although this sounds like a nice one, remembering the willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son by sharing food with the needy of your community, your friends, and your family. And it is also a moment for one of my favorite traditions from the Indian film industry, the holiday greetings and messages to the fans from the stars.
No particular reason to do this, I just find it interesting to look back at the past 25 years of film through the career of one man. And, I guess, it is also good prep work for the Thugs promotion campaign that is about to start, reminding us all that the road to “perfect untouchable Aamir” was a bumpy one. I did this for Shahrukh already, and I found it fascinating! To look at the broad sweep of a 25+ career and see where were the low periods and the high periods and the genre experiments and everything, and also where the industry was going in each era, the changes in the production houses and directors and co-stars, and all kinds of juicy things. Aamir seems like he should be similarly fascinating. Plus, thanks to his perfectionist style, far fewer films! I should be able to knock this out in two parts. Three at the most
Tomorrow is International Chocolate Day (today is fried chicken day in America-July is an unhealthy month). So I thought I would look at Chocolate Heroes, a phrase specific to Hindi film that makes almost no logical sense and yet you immediately understand what it means. Well, almost immediately.
