Maybe it was because I hadn’t had breakfast yet, but this was an action film trailer that actually made me tear up a little. Okay, almost certainly it was because I hadn’t had breakfast yet.
Not as much news as their could be today, but I will still pick out the stories I find most interesting to talk about and share them with you all. Mostly they are on the “isn’t it interesting how this news item is being spun?” level, rather than talking about the news item itself.
I’m still trying to get back in the swing of “normal” posting after the whole Jab Harry Met Sejal massive month long series. Technically I don’t “owe” another review right now, I’ve done my Malayalam and Tamil/Telugu for the week, my DDLJ (yes, I am finally back to DDLJ) will be going up sometime tomorrow, Hindi Film 101 is happening like usual on Thursday, but it just doesn’t feel like enough! So, here, have a bonus tiny review of a silly silly loveable movie.

Well, I watched it! I hated it! And not just because I was planning to hate it. I really did hate it, even after giving it a fair chance and sitting straight through. Also, I was really really really really bored. I checked my phone 5 times, the first time after the first 20 minutes because I thought surely the first hour at least must have passed. Honestly, the best part of the whole experience were the trailers (A Gentleman, looking better and better!). And now I am sitting in the mall food court, eating lunch and writing this very fast so I can leave the whole horrible experience behind me.
Happy Sunday! Datablue mentioned re-watching Ocean’s 11 on the Wednesday Watching post, and of course that got me started thinking about how/why it should be remade in Hindi film. And then I started thinking about all the other multi-starrer options from American film that really should be remade.
This is thanks to two commentators, Filmilibrarian who reminded me about Victoria & Abdul, and Niki who sent me the Spyder teaser seconds after it dropped. Oh, and then Salman Khan who tweeted the new Tubelight song this morning.
I don’t know what was up this winter, but everyone I know got sick! I got sick twice, and like really really sick, not just “a little tickle in the throat” sick. And among my friends I heard everything from bronchitis to walking pneumonia. But it is supposed to be over now! Right? Because it is officially Spring? And to celebrate, lets have one last orgy of Vitamin C!
I am trying to keep each of these posts to around 2,000 words, just seems like anything more would be too over-whelming! Which means I had to break Ranbir off from his Dad. But, as a bonus, I am tossing in his youngest uncle (not much to say about Rajiv). And I will be back on Thursday to deal with the “other” Kapoors, Anil and Sonam and their clan. I am a Shahrukh person, not an Aamir or a Salman person. But I can still appreciate not-Shahrukh stars for the wonderful people they are, even if that person is not my particular person. And Salman is wonderful. (This is what I said last year for his 50th birthday, and it is still true today on his 51st!)
This is the first of 3 trailers that came out today, and they are all so important I am giving them each their own post! This is the first one to put up, because I think it is the one there is the most to say about.
It’s a good thing they are charming, because they aren’t really anything else. Not famous, not controversial, not really anything. But charming! Very enjoyable people to spend 45 minutes with.
My second Anushka movie of the week! This time it is NOT a May-December romance. Or I guess it is a May romance but not a December romance? It’s unrequited is what I am saying. And I have to kind of wonder if there is going to be something similar in Dear Zindagi, if only because, how could Alia NOT fall in love with Shahrukh after spending time talking to him? How can anyone?
Have you noticed that in Indian film, an overnight success is rare, but an overnight failure is even rarer? It takes the slow accumulation of flop after flop after flop before there are any repercussions. But, finally, Farhan and Katrina are feeling the burn!
Smita and Shabanaji were long rumored to be professional rivals, kind of a Juhi-Madhuri thing. No personal component, I never heard about them fighting over the same man or anything like that. But some semi-nasty remarks passed in the press. And now, the feud continues, long after death! I am posting about Smitaji on Shabana’s birthday.
I already put up a non-spoiler review, and a spoiler-y review that goes into detail all the way through the first half. And now I am refreshed, post-nap, and ready to move on and finish off the rest of the film!

Boy, it’s been awhile since we had a nice glitzy release, right? With lots of pretty clothes and songs and a wedding somewhere in there? Well, if that’s what you’ve been waiting for, here it is!
These two things have nothing in common, don’t even try to find a connection. But moviemavengal tweeted me about Dulquer’s gift to his Dad, and another commentator pointed out that it was Mammootty’s birthday today and now I feel bad for not acknowledging it at all. Although I did happen to post my Jagratha review today, so that’s cool!
I saw Varun Dhawan!!! And other people were there too. I mean, other people in the audience, it wasn’t just me and Varun alone in a room. But also, there were other people in the show. Only, I don’t really care about any of them. Which is really the big news, that Varun was so clearly superior to everyone else in the Dream Team show.
Happy Birthday Kat! You are not my favorite actress, but I think I can dig up my traditional 12 reasons to love you. Especially if most of them are songs, because you really are a fun dancer to watch!
