I tracked down both a truly awesome American song released on June 23rd, and then every year June 23rd was a Friday, and then a Hindi and Telugu movie released on those Fridays. Continue readingAs you know if you are a regular reader, it is rare for me to really truly hate a film. I will always find some redeeming feature, discuss the themes and treat it seriously, make you want to watch it. I don’t like all films equally, but I do generally like all films. Except for the very very rare film which I absolutely HATE and the main purpose of my review is to try to destroy it with my hatred. Which, possibly, might be a style of writing you enjoy. In which case, this post is for you, to make it easy to find the 1 in 50 film I actually wrote a bad review of.
You know Dina? Who I used to do the podcasts with and who I always see movies with on Friday nights? Her birthday is this week, and I won’t be able to give her her present beforehand, so instead she will have to make do with this theme post.
There were 4 strong contenders for me for this award this year, Rangoon and Tubelight and Tiger Zinda Hai and Jagga Jasoos. But I went with Rangoon by a hair.
I miss Tubelight! There are no good Jagga Jasoos puns. I had to full back on jokes related to actual content. Blech! At least if Munna Michael fails next week I have that whole rich thread of Michael Jackson song titles to play with. Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, that’s going to be just the best week! Happy Wednesday! Half way through the week, woot-woot! I am so excited about next week, when I get a random day off in the middle of the week (4th of July).
Eid Mubarak! Forgot to say that yesterday, got so focused on Tubelight and on Pride. But, better late than never! Oh, and also, Happy Monday! Time for questions.
The title really says it all. If you are wondering whether you might want to see this movie, you don’t. It is not a good film. Not a good movie. Really really not. Terrible script, and casting mistakes. And then a lot of money poured on top which just serves to make the flaws stand out even more. Like bright lighting on a really really ugly statue. Anyway, save your money and skip the film, just read this instead! Which I almost never say, but in this case, yes. It’s the best thing to do.
Isn’t this fortuitous? I didn’t plan it at all, but I think I am going to get up to the Sino-Indian war in my regularly scheduled Nehru-Gandhi post today, which makes it also Tubelight themed! Yay! (part 1 of Nehru-Gandhi here)
Happy day before Tubelight! I think I have picked my optimal showtime. Later show, but closer theater, so I can still be home at a reasonable hour. Same theater where I saw Bahubali opening night, Sultan for the second time, and Fan opening night. You will notice from that list that this theater only plays the biggest releases. Which allows me to make some box office predictions! Oh, and I also needed to do a post because Salman just released a video of Epic Cuteness.
This is a bit of a stretch of a connection, but I’ve been wanting an excuse to write about Veer without really writing about Veer (really writing about it means re-watching the film, making mental notes, going through every moment of the plot in detail, etc. etc. Not just picking a few themes to discuss), and this is as good as any. It’s not just Sohail and Salman playing brothers, it’s also Sohail and Salman in a historical setting, so I guess that’s good enough, right? It’s kind of Tubelight related.

Happy Tuesday! Tubelight will be coming out soon, and I thought it might be helpful to review the history of Indo-Chinese relations. At least, the little I know about them. (yes yes, I will get back to the Nehru-Gandhi’s, probably on Thursday)
Happy Tubelight Week!!!!! I am less excited than I thought I would be, but I think that is just because it is too hot to be excited. Writing all my Tubelight posts is beginning to get me excited though, thinking about all the things it reminds me of and could be related to.
Happy Father’s Day Again! My weekly fanfic post this morning (it’s really good! You should read it) exhausted me, so this will be a quick-ish post. But it is Tubelight week, I can’t let the day go by without acknowledgement.
Eid is on a Saturday this year, right? Which is very convenient for me! I can do a Tubelight first day-first show without having to take time off work. Even better, thanks to the time difference and convenience for theater owners, it might be playing in the US on Friday first show at the regular time I would see it anyway!
I take one day off twitter, and everything happens! It’s not fair! Shahrukh’s movie has a title, and a bunch of new posters, new Tubelight song is up which changes the plot, and Jagga Jasoos…..well, that one doesn’t really change anything, but it sure perplexes me!
This is thanks to two commentators, Filmilibrarian who reminded me about Victoria & Abdul, and Niki who sent me the Spyder teaser seconds after it dropped. Oh, and then Salman Khan who tweeted the new Tubelight song this morning.
Sorry sorry, it was out a few days ago and I missed it. Blame Salman, not me! I follow him on twitter and everything, and this was not mentioned! At least, not mentioned enough, I was able to miss it. Salman! You’ve got to tweet this things like a dozen times to make sure they get noticed!
I was thinking about doing a kind of combined post with some of the other new songs releases I may have missed. But, firstly, I don’t know that there are that many big new song releases, everything is entering the Ramadan duldrums right now. And anyway, Salman is such big news that he doesn’t need anything else.
Well, this was agony. I saw on twitter before work that it would be coming out this morning, and then I had to wait and wait and wait until I was finally able to watch it when I got home. And now I have!
