You can feel free to disagree with my arguments in this post. I’ve seen only maybe a third of Gautham’s movies so there could be something I am missing. But this is how it appears to me right now, with my imperfect knowledge. Also, WHY ARE GAUTHAM MENON’S MOVIES IMPOSSIBLE TO STREAM???? They just disappear off the face of the earth as soon as they leave theaters so far as I can tell.
Continue readingDirector’s Week: Aditya Chopra, Meastro of the 2 Minute Video, His Greatest Hits
I don’t know for sure that Adi did these. I know for sure he made the Darr trailer, which is instantly recognizable as something a little bit different and better than anything else. And there are other YRF trailers that have that same feel which I am choosing to credit for Adi.
Continue readingWednesday Watching Post: What Are You Watching and Reading and Thinking and Listening To This Week?
Happy Wednesday! So strange when there are only 4 work days in a week, I’m almost done but I also just started.
Continue readingDirector’s Week: Aditya Chopra, Businessman First and Artist Second
Adi! Such an odd director, unpredictable and yet predictable. And always achieves the goal he sets out to achieve. I forgot, I already covered Aditya’s personal life in a Hindi Film 101, so if you want to learn more after reading this post, click here.
Continue readingShahrukh Summer: All Shahrukh Goofy Songs
The is broken in my office AGAIN so it is 1 million degrees and my brain has melted. Sorry, I hate complaining all the time about this, but it is literally making me ill and having a big effect on my blogging abilities. So no deep thought post, big silly post that requires minimal thought instead. I’m gonna go through Shahrukh’s filmography and pull out every single goofy song. And you all get to decide which one of them is the most happy making!
Continue readingInstagram Update: Harsh Huh, Kat Cute, Patralekha Pyaari
My office is both extremely hot (the heater is malfunctioning) and busy (so many phone calls!), so I’m not even gonna do a real news analysis post. On the other hand, lots to discuss from Instagram! Well, lots of shallow image based gossip to discuss.
Continue readingShahrukh Summer: Marry-Date-Avoid, Shahrukh Professions
Ready for a silly post? Of course you are! It’s a holiday (at least in America), we aren’t supposed to be thinking.
Continue readingMonday Morning Questions Post: What Do You Want to Ask Me the Week Chichhore Comes Out?
Happy Monday! I’m not at work, wooooo! Which actually means I might be slower to respond than usual, since instead I am driving along the highway and then (hopefully, if I have energy for it) cleaning my apartment and swapping out my summer clothes.
Continue readingSunday ReRun: Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, For Labor Day, A Film Where Our Hero Has an Actual Job
Such a great movie! Largely because it feels like a story of real people, and part of that is because they have real jobs.
Continue readingSilly Sunday Bonus: High Concept TV Show Based on Poo from K3G Before and After the Film
A single Silly Sunday post is always pushing it a bit in terms of reader interest, a second one is really unlikely to find an audience. But still, Shreyans Goenka and I came up with a really great limited series idea for Amazon Prime, and I feel the need to share it.
Continue readingShahrukh Summer/Silly Sunday: Tweed and Sweaters Romance for Saif and Shahrukh, Middle-Aged Rediscovering the Spark Comedy for Boman and Shahrukh, Fun Wedding Farce for Shahrukh and Ayushmann Khurrana
I love it when you inspire me in the comments! I always come up with much better stories based on your ideas than I do on my own. Anyway, these are from the comments on the “what actor does Shahrukh have the most chemistry with?” post.
Continue readingTheme Week Announcement! Directors I Like (in honor of Gautham Menon’s new movie)
Isn’t that nice and specific? These are not the best directors, or even a fair cross-section of directors, they are just Directors I Like. And you can’t judge me for any of them, even Puri Jugannadh, because there is no accounting for taste.
Continue readingShahrukh Summer: Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte Annotated
Thank you Emily for the suggestion! This is the perfect song to do a lazy Saturday when I don’t want to think that much.
Continue readingSaturday Small Talk: Chat Away While I Have a Headache!
Happy Saturday! I have a headache and don’t feel like thinking. But you all can still have fun while I sit around and am lazy.
Continue readingTGIF/Shahrukh Summer: Shahrukh Versus The World
You ready for me to make your life VERY HARD? I’m going to do a series of match ups and, for at least one, you have to choose someone who is not Shahrukh.
Continue readingShahrukh Summer: Brief “Hawayein” Analysis
This is a little treat for those of you who like this kind of thing, a deep intense consideration of a small moment of SRK screen time.
Continue readingSaaho Review (SPOILERS): Why is Shraddha Bad at EVERYTHING???
Honestly, doesn’t matter if you read the spoilers or not. Might even help you enjoy the film more if you can follow the plot in advance. Although there is also something to be said for enjoying twists and seeing if you can guess them in advance of the reveal. If you like twists and stuff, read this review. If you get confused by twists and want the summary in advance so you can follow the plot, you can keep reading.
Continue readingSaaho Review (No Spoilers): An Unambitious Little Action Film with a MASSIVE BUDGET Shoved Inside
Well, that was ridiculous stupid fun! If you like explosions, love songs at famous tourist attractions, and lots of whistle worthy dialogues, this is for you. If you don’t…then what are you doing watching movies? Go off and read a book or something!
Continue readingMy Saaho Outfit
Do you want to see what I ended up deciding to wear to opening night of Saaho? Of course you do!
Continue readingMagical Thinking Post: Let Us All Combine Our Powers For These Very Small Wishes
I am a deep believer in the “God has a plan” theory and also the “Butterfly effect” theory. Meaning that I don’t like to make big wishes for fear they will come true and somehow mess with The Universe. But I think the following small wishes should be safe and not permenantly damage anything. Join me in combining our powers to Make Them So!
Continue readingFemale Films Week: Movies To Start a Discussion about Women’s Issues
I like discussions! And maybe this post will start one, or maybe it will just give you a watching list the next time you want to sit down with your daughter or mother or sister or husband or friends and have a wide-ranging “no right answer” consideration of complex issues related to women.
Continue readingShahrukh Summer: Shahrukh Songs in Which He Gazes Longingly At the Heroine
I’m not messing around, I went to his full filmography and pulled out every song that evokes that “I desire you like oxygen but do not feel worthy to do more than gaze at you” feeling.
Continue readingFemale Films Week: Ohm Shanti Oshaana, A Happy Grand Finale
I love this movie so so so so much. And so far as I can tell, everyone who has watched this movie has also loved it so so so so much. It’s just lovable!
Continue readingFemale Films Week: Best Heroines Who Aren’t the Lead, But Are Still Interesting
Is that title clear? I’m so tired, but I really want to have this discussion because I think it is interesting. What are the movies with a female love interest who is more complex than your usual “pretty face, good girl” kind of heroine?
Continue readingFemale Films Week: Manmarziyaan, A Female Hero Who is Allowed to Make Mistakes
I really surprised myself with how much I liked this movie. And I think you should all give it a chance because you might have a pleasant surprise too!
