Well, “trailers”. There is a legitimate new trailer for Mohenjo Daro, but there is just a first look image for Baar Baar Dekho, which I actually forgot was even happening. This is what happens when you don’t cast any big names in your film! The gossip press doesn’t feel the need to keep us updated on the filming and it ends up being ready for release without anyone realizing it.

Omkara: Man! That Was Depressing!
I knew it would be! I remember getting all depressed when I read the play back in college, and it was even worse watching it being acted out by a bunch of actors I really liked. No wonder it has taken me years and years and years to get around to finally watching it. But then moviemavengal posted on it and pointed out that Ajay is SMOKING HOT, and that was enough to finally get me to check it out!
Happy Birthday Naseeruddin Shah!!!!
It’s Naseerji’s birthday! How wonderful! His career is so long and so impressive, I don’t think I can possibly hope to do justice to it in one post. So I am going to do the best I can and if I miss something, just mention it in the comments and maybe I will put it in for next years post! Anyway, here are 26 reasons for now, for the age he was in his first movie.
Vettai: Madhavan is Just a Big Old Teddy Bear, Isn’t He?
This was such a cute movie! Everyone was just so nice to each other and supportive and not mean. Even all the family dynamics that in another movie would be the source of much drama and trauma were just kind of laughed off. By the movie, but also by the characters. No lingering resentments or quest for vengeance, just a sort of “well, that’s how they are and that’s fine.” kind of attitude.
Happy Guru Purnima! Let’s Look at Some of the Teachers of Indian Film!
I half considered doing a “serious” post for this day, people who taught me about Indian film, but then it just would have been a dozen SRK songs, and that’s not fair to the non-SRK people! So instead I’ll do teachers in general, and only half SRK songs.
And, as always, if there is a song you like that matches the theme, just mention it in the comments!
News About Upcoming Movies! Dear Zindagi, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and Tubelight
A mixture of set photos, first looks, and announcements. Thank goodness, we are preparing for the massive Independence Day through Republic Day release schedule. My favorite time of year!
DDLJ Part 13: The Disappearing Prayer Scene!
I’ve been taking a long break from this, partly because Fan came out and it was time to move on to other things, partly because the streaming version I bought on Amazon didn’t have the next scene included. But now I am back! By popular demand, and also because there is another movie with Shahrukh (not a “Shahrukh movie”, but at least he’s in it for a bit) coming out in a few months.

News Randomness: Salman Gives an Interview, Priyanka’s Brother is in Trouble, and Sultan Holds Steady in 2nd Week
I’m a little late to the party on the biggest item here, Salman’s celebratory press conference in which he offered all kinds of juicy quotes and Anushka addressed the ridiculous “bad feminist!” arguments against her character. Rediff has a nice summary of the best bits. But, better late than never!
Jab Pyaar Kisise Hota Hai: I Think This is the Best I Have Ever Seen Twinkle Look
Twinkle was so great in this! Well, really Twinkle and Salman. The two of them together just lit up the screen in a really unusual way. Which, I think, was on purpose to support the story.
Love: This Movie Was WAY WAY Better Than I Expected!
I had never heard of this film until it was recommended in a comment, and I don’t know why I never heard of it, because it is brilliant! Clever and sweet like Chashme Buddoor, intense and emotional like Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, and with an interesting message about Indian society like Ishaqzaade.
Saajan: I Finally Watch It! And It Is Just as Good as I Have Always Heard!
This is one of those movies that I knew was really good, and I just haven’t gotten around to watching it. Well, haven’t gotten around to it, and it was kind of hard to find a copy of. But, thanks to the proliferation of international streaming services, I now longer had that excuse, so I finally watched it!
Happy Birthday Katrina Kaif!!!
Happy Birthday Kat! You are not my favorite actress, but I think I can dig up my traditional 12 reasons to love you. Especially if most of them are songs, because you really are a fun dancer to watch!
Turkey Post: Horrible Things Keep Happening in the World and All I Can Do is Post Videos!!!!
Here’s what’s really upsetting, in it’s on small way, about the news out of Turkey: they are really really really welcoming to Indian films. In a way that I found really surprising when I started researching this post. There were websites and articles, all about how happy they are to have India film in their country, how grateful they are to be part of these films, how proud they are of this connection. On the other hand, when Dhoom 3 was filming in my town, it was reported as “hey, isn’t this kooky?”
Quick News Report: Sultan in Overseas, Great Grand Masti Releases, and Shiney Ahuja is a Disgusting Idiot
Is that last really news? I feel like the world at large has pretty much known that Shiney Ahuja is garbage for years now. I mean, the other stories aren’t really “news” either-people like watching Sultan, they are sick of sex comedies, blah blah blah. But this will probably be my last chance to post on news until the weekend is over (get ready for a weekend of Salman classic reviews!), so I thought I should grab it.
Sultan Part 7: All the Way to the End! Complete! Final! Conclusion!
Last bit! Not because I’m so close to the end, but because we are coming up on the weekend and I can’t face carrying this thing through to another week. So, if you want to know the end-end of Sultan, what happens to all the characters and how it happens, then read on!

In Honor of Nice Attack: A Bunch of Indian Songs in France
Terrible news out of France, but there isn’t really anything I can do about it. So I’m going to do the only thing I really can, and put up a theme post about it. Watch some songs, cheer yourself up, think about how France has always been a warm and wonderful place to dream about for people around the world.
Sultan Part 6: Getting Close to the End! Lots of Fight Scenes!
22 Female Kottayam: Still Managed to Surprise Me, Even Knowing the Whole Plot in Advance
I’ve been doing the Sultan recap for days now, and it is such a manly movie. Not to say it doesn’t have really good female characters, it does, but over all it is about our male main character and how he interacts with other men. So I am going to take a break and look at a Malayalam movie which as all about women.
More Tiny Little News Items: Demi Moore in an “Indian” film, Shahrukh Launches a Book, and Deepika is Learning to Cook!
There’s still nothing that is making me go “WOW! That’s Exciting!” But, you know, there’s some tiny little things that are kind of cool. (If I missed a “wow! exciting!” story, let me know in the comments!)
News Round-Up: Cute Cute Gadar kid is going to be launched, Hrithik Gives Us a Juicy Quote, and Sultan Box Office Drops Off
There still isn’t THAT much to talk about, but I think I can manage to scrape together enough stories to make a post.
Sultan Part 5: Things Are About to Get Really Really Really Sad
Yamadonga: Am I the Only One Reminded of A Matter of Life and Death?
Moviemavengal recommended this to me (you can read her review here), and I am so glad she did! Super awesome strange Rajamouli movie in the way only he can be (STILL haven’t seen Eega! I really need to get on that), but with a message that, oddly, reminded me of a British WWII classic.
It’s My Sister’s Birthday Today! A Special Theme Post!
I was trying to think why 7/12 was sticking in my mind as an important birthday, what famous actor/director/composer was born today? And then I realized, my sister was born today! So, I’m just going to do a post of really nice sister songs.
Sultan Part 4: My Favorite Song!
Part 4! We have reached my favorite song! I really liked the way it sounded when I was just listening to the soundtrack, and I ended up liking the visuals too. Hopefully some version of the video will make it’s way online soon.

Sultan Box Office Report: Record Breaking, No Duh
We have no reached the point where if a new big Khan release DOESN’T break all previous records, it is considered a flop. I say “big”, because I’m not talking about your Jai Hos, your Fans, or your Talaashes. Just the ones with the major studio backing, thousands of prints made, huge international release, and family friendly crowd-pleasing plots. Of which Sultan is certainly one, so its box office success was kind of taken as a given.
