I already said in my no SPOILERS review that this is a great great rom-com! And you should definitely go see it if at all possible. Don’t just read my SPOILERS review! Only read it if you have already seen the film, or if you are one of those people who can still enjoy movies even after reading all the spoilers.

The Ghazi Attack SPOILERS Review: I Wish There Was More Submarine Maneuvering! It’s What I Came For!
As I mentioned in my non-SPOILER review, my Grandpa loooooooooves submarine movies. Well, really all boat movies, but sub movies are his favorites. And because of that, I have seen a fair number of submarine movies myself. And I have to say, this is a very very good example of the sub movie genre. I would have liked it even better if we’d gotten to the underwater warfare part sooner.
Running Shaadi Review (NO SPOILERS): The Best Rom-Com I’ve Seen Since Humpty Sharma!
Okay, maybe I was just in the right mood, or maybe it’s because romantic comedies come along so rarely these days, but I was really really impressed with this one! Old-fashioned idea, new fashioned execution, real characters with real conflicts, and a happy ending! And a central couple that was kind of cute and sparky. If only there were some really big budget song numbers, it would be the perfect movie. Seriously, if you like light rom-coms and have been waiting for a new one to come out that feels like Happy Bhaag Jayegi or Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, go right over and watch this!
The Ghazi Attack Review (NO SPOILERS): A Movie My Grandfather Would Love
This is a classic submarine movie. A very specific genre, which also happens to be my grandfather’s favorite. I cannot WAIT for this film to be available on Netflix so I can send it to him! If only there had been even more underwater shenanigans and videos of little toy boats moving in bathtubs, and slightly less patriotic stupidity.
TGIF: Romantic Valentine’s Week Post! Best Couples
Happy Friday! Another week accomplished. And it was Valentine’s Week! So I thought my TGIF post should be a little bit romantic this week. Which for me means photos of couples in love.
Trailer Update! My Favorite Badrinath Song and First Look At Hot Kunal Kapoor!
See, this is why I go on twitter! So I can see new videos of cute guys as soon as they are released. And today, we got both Varun and Kunal Kapoor!
Ek Nai Paheli: Because Apoorva Raagangal Doesn’t Have Subtitles
I just went ahead and ordered every R. Balachander movie on Netflix with subtitles. Which means I ended up watching the remake of Apoorva Raagangal instead of the original. I hate it when I do that! Oh well, at least I’ve seen some version of it now, even if it isn’t the “good” version.
Baby: Is This India’s First Process Thriller?
I don’t have that much to say about this movie, really, but I also thought I should put up a post before Naam Shabana comes out. And there is no news today, or anyone’s birthday, or any other possible topic for another post, so I thought I might as well put it up.
Hindi Film 101: BR Chopra and Yash Chopra (Part 1)
Okay, Chopra time! This isn’t a very flashy family. Or a very scandalous one. But it is an uber-talented one, with a huge impact on the development of Hindi film. (for all of my Hindi Film 101 posts, go here)
Anupama Takes a Look at Dharma Productions: The Arrival of the “D-Girls” in India!
T.J Stevens posted on last week’s Wednesday Watching post a video from Anupama Chopra’s “Film Companion” series, which was really interesting! So interesting that it is too much to talk about in a post comment. And yet possibly slightly too little to talk about in a post. We will see!
Zindagi Gulzar Hai: 26 Episodes to Tell Us that Daughters Are Just As Good As Sons
This show was SO GOOD! But I think I might like Humsafar better? Just personal taste, Humsafar was kind of cleaner and simpler. This one had all these layers and perspectives and complications and different philosophies and feminist statements and all of that and it just MADE MY HEAD HURT!
Wednesday Watching Post: What Are You Watching and Reading and Thinking About the Day After Valentine’s?
Happy Wednesday! Looking forward to hearing what all you guys have been watching and reading and so on. And how you all celebrated Valentine’s! I had my usual traditional celebration of Shahrukh and take out. With friends, not just the two of us, that would be weird.
Tuesday Tamil: Parijatham, Paris When it Sizzles With a Desi Touch!
Am I correct that this is not the best movie? I am never sure with my Tamil/Telugu/Malayalam films, if I am missing something really subtle that makes it into a brilliant classic. I only picked this one because it had Prithviraj and was available through Netflix. While a good movie and one I enjoyed watching, it didn’t quite have that “BRILLIANT!” feeling. Although the songs were great. And the plot is delightfully complex
Happy Valentine’s Day! The Funnest Romance Fanvids!
(another reposted post. But it’s a really good one! And I went on vacation and fell behind a little this week)
It’s been a while since I did a fanvid post! Plus, it’s Valentine’s Day! And also, depressing grey and cold February. So here are some of the best fanvids happy and in love videos on the internet, just to cheer you up!
Hindi Film 101 for Valentine’s: The Two Types of Indian Film Romances through the decades
(Yet another reposted post! But it is one that really belongs in the Hindi Film 101 series, so this is just righting a wrong)
Valentine’s Day! Day of love! And for that reason, a good day for a one of post just about love stories. The two kinds of them, the socially relevant ones in which the romance is just a jumping off point for a broader social issue, and the fun fun fun ones that just make you smile.
Happy Valentine’s Day! Here Are Some Love Songs From Bad Movies!
(this is an updated post from last year) To celebrate this strange Valentine’s in the middle of the week, here are some strange love songs in the middle of movies that really shouldn’t have love songs. If you follow a strictly Only Romances rule, you may never even see them!
Monday Malayalam: Kismath, Why Families Sometimes Suck
Week four! Woo! This is kind of working I think maybe? Although we’ll have to see how it does now that I have finished all the big name releases from last year. Oh wait! I still have Oppam!
Final Vacation Report
I’m having another traveling day today. Which means my official “vacation” is over. But not really, because all I wanted to do was read for pleasure without feeling guilty about it. And I can do that just as easily sitting in an airport terminal as sitting in a park in the sunshine. Anyway, I thought you might want to get a final report on how it went!
Monday Morning Questions! On a Traveling Day!
I am traveling once again! But that doesn’t mean you can’t ask me questions! It just means you may have to wait a bit to have them answered.
Raees Part 7: The End! It’s SAAAAAAAAAAAAAD!!!!
Silly Sunday Speculative Post: I Finished Zindagi Gulzar Hai! What Happened to Sibra?
I finished Zindagi Gulzar Hai! Full review post(s) going up sometime this week, although less detailed than I did for Humsafar. But first, let’s talk about my favorite character whose storyline gets kind of forgotten! And see what would happen if she was the focus instead of her grumpy older sister.
AIB and SRK: Podcast Report! 5 Interesting Things!
Thanks to the nice commentators here, I was alerted that Shahrukh had just done a podcast with AIB, and it was a hoot! I watched the whole thing, in two parts, and it was very enjoyable. But most of it was in the kind of “it’s the way he said it” way, so I can’t exactly recreate it. But there were 5 interesting things that came up that I want to discuss.
Raees Part 6: The Part Where it All Starts to Go Downhill
Vacation Report, Day 1: Rain Rain, Eh You Can Stay I Don’t Mind!
Greetings from an undisclosed location in Southern California! It’s about 10 degrees warmer, but otherwise exactly the same weather as if I were in Chicago (grey, rainy). But I’m still happy! It’s just so nice to get away.
