I’ve been kind of thinking about writing about this movie, ever since the Padmavat thing started, and now it seems like the write time with Hrithik’s birthday this week and all. So here I go!
Monthly Archives: January 2018
News Round-Up: SRK Gets an Award, Shraddha Gets a Movie, Salman Gets a Death Threat, Vidya Gets Indira
More news! Going back to my post this morning, it really feels like Padmavat has been holding us hostage for the past 2 months. And now, suddenly freed, there is all kinds of news popping up all over, interesting news.
Box Office Youtube Video: Tiger Zinda Hai and the Box Office Top Ten
Another youtube video! I am on a roll. You can ignore it if you want, but I am trying to get back in the youtube groove, see if it will do me any good for blog views (so far, better than podcasts, but still not great).
Padmavat/Padman Update: Does Bhansali Just Not Care About the Rest of the Industry?
Well, it has been officially confirmed for like 24 hours now that Padmavat is now releasing Republic Day, meaning a clash with Padman. And, like every other business decision related to this movie, I think this is idiotic and a sign that no one involved has a lick of common sense and is running their movie into the ground. And the rest of the Hindi film industry along with it.
DDLJ Scene By Scene Part 42: Dance Break!
“Mendhi Laga Ka Rakna” continues!!!! But I think I will be finishing it next week. So sad. Then it’s all drama and angst and Anupam Kher straight through to the end. (full index of DDLJ coverage here)
News Round-Up: Upcoming Movies, and Other Stories
Even more news! Announcements of upcoming movies primarily. Which kind of makes sense, we are entering the spring doldrums, so now is the time to start your promotion campaign while nothing exciting is hitting theaters.
News Round-Up: So Much ACTUAL News Today! SO HAPPY!!!!
I don’t know what it was, maybe it was just the holidays or maybe it was Padmavat/Padmavati driving everything else away, but the past month or so it has felt like there is no “actual” news. Like, no one is officially announcing anything, no one is bothering to do even the littlest bit of investigation to find out about a fact, it’s all just reporting of people having opinions. But no more! A new era has dawned and there is SO MUCH actual news today!
Hrithik Roshan Film Index
Happy Birthday Hrithik! As a gift to you for your 44th, I will give you your very own list of DCIB reviews. Which is not that many. But then on the other hand, you are kind of picky and don’t make that many films, do you?
Wednesday Watching Post: What Are You Reading and Watching and Thinking This Week?
Happy Wednesday! Halfway through the week, I stayed up way too late watching movies with a friend last night, but tonight I might maybe be able to go home and go to bed at a regular hour. And then be up too late again on tomorrow, possibly. Oh well, such is life.
Happy Birthday Hrithik! 26 Reasons I Love You
Happy 43rd Birthday Hrithik! This is an UPDATED post from last year, 26 for your age when you were launched. And maybe this year I can resist posting that photo of you as a teenager with the Khans. (Spoiler: Most of my reasons are dances)

2017 Hindi Film Awards, Editor’s Choice: Favorite Hindi Film of 2017, A Gentleman
It’s a Sidharth blow out!!!!!!!! Best film yesterday, and my favorite film today. Not a coincidence exactly, less about Sidharth choosing good movies/good movies choosing him, and more about the level of star who is still allowed to experiment and risk failure.
Tiger Breaks Into Global Top Ten By Cheating (As Have Most Other Films In Recent Years)
Well, Tiger has begun to drop off significantly. Which means now is the week when we can start comparing it with other overseas hits and see how good it really did, removed from all the hysteria of the “finally a big box office hit in 2017!” coverage.
2017 DCIB Hindi Film Awards Best Movie, Editor’s Choice: It’s a Sidharth Malhotra Comeback story!
Well, here is a shocker, after winning the worst actor award last year, Sidharth landed in the best Hindi movie (I think) of 2017. Not that he has become a better actor, he is just way way better cast this year than last year.
Monday Malayalam: Sunday Holiday, A Pleasant Timepass
Well, this was a nice little movie! Which is what I was looking for, a nice happy sunshiney Malayalam movie to watch while it was freezing cold outside. Oh, and also, Asif Aslam was in it, and I like him.
Happy Birthday Fearless Nadia!
I did a long post about Nadia Wadia/Fearless Nadia/Mary Ann Evans several months back, thought I should repost it in honor of her birthday today.
Update from My Twitter Feed: Explanation for SRK’s Silence, Amitabh is All Our Grandpa’s
This isn’t “news” as such, this is just cute stuff people have tweeted or re-tweeted. Mostly Amitabh, who seems to have gone a little baby mad the past few days.
New Youtube Video! FINALLY! Sum Up of 2017 Films in All Industries
I finally got around to making a video. Quality is so-so, I was in a hurry to finish before I had to run out the door for work, but it’s there. It’s related to the “Surprisingly Good Film of 2017” awards post, but a little different.
Monday Morning Questions! What Do You Want to Know Today?
Happy Monday! Time to distract me as I start a full week of work for the first time in a month. On the tragedy!!!! Working 5 full days, without any time off for being super sick, or the holidays. How will I possibly go on?
2017 DCIB Hindi Film Awards: Best Character, Editor’s Choice, Tumhari Sulu
This was a really close one, between Sulu/Vidya Balan in Tumhari Sulu and Dev/Akshaye Khanna in Ittefaq. Vidya won by just a little bit, but mostly because she was the title cahrater and got a little more time onscreen. This is just my choice, if you want to vote for yourself, go here and place your vote in the comments.
Silly Sunday FanFic: Dogs! Dogs dogs dogs dogs dogs. And Shahrukh.
I spent three hours yesterday looking at dogs. Well, 20 minutes looking at dogs, 2 hours and 40 minutes driving between shelters that turned out to be closed or not have any dogs and talking about dogs with my friend who came with me in order to stop me from taking home every dog there. Anyway, what with all the doggie talk, it is obvious what the topic of this week’s fanfic will be.
Final (and best) Christmas Card! The JHMS One!!!!
No new winner this week, so sad. Because the Christmas season is over. Although I am almost tempted to just make this a weekly thing all year. But probably not. Or at least, not like this. Anyway, you do all get to admire the card joyomama won last week, which is my favorite.
Best Hindi Soundtrack of 2017, Editor’s Choice: Jab Harry Met Sejal, Perfect Meeting of Music and Movie
This will be the ONLY award for JHMS this year. Just pointing that out for people who think I am blindly Shahrukh mad. It was a good interesting movie, but it is only the soundtrack that really stands out for me when I compare it with the other films of the year. Plus, it wasn’t that great of a year for soundtracks.
Why I Didn’t Raise My Hand in Kindergarten and Why I Don’t Write Southern Industry News Posts
Sorry, this is going to be a lot of me-me-me, but it will also be a little bit of a discussion of the responsibility of public writing and education and stuff. So that will be fun! Oh, and it will answer a question that a lot of people have been asking me lately.
Happy Birthday A.R. Rahman!!!! 50 Reasons I Love You (Mostly Songs)
I never get much comments on my birthday posts, but this one I have hopes! I am picking, maximum, only 50 songs. Which means I am obviously going to be leaving brilliance out. You get to point out the important things I missed in the comments!
Ohm Shanthi Oshaana Second Review: Puts the Focus On the Heroine For Once
Bangalore Days and Premam both got second reviews, might as well complete the trilogy and give OSO a second review too. Also it will be a nice little stop gap until my new Malayalam review goes up on Monday, now that family time is over and I am a sad orphan again who can spend her weekends watching movies (now I hear my parents saying “Hey! We live TWO MILES AWAY! She’s not an orphan!”). Anyway, life is back to normal is what I am saying, and my family has shrunk back down to normal size and my free time has expanded.
