Oh, and also good enough that you shouldn’t SPOIL yourself if you are planning to watch it. Not super super good, I don’t want to oversell it, but good enough that it is worth avoiding spoilers.

OH MY GOD!!! If you are attracted to Shahrukh Khan, and if you have found him increasingly attractive as he ages, then this movie will KILL YOU. Like, kill you dead. I thought he was distracting in Dear Zindagi, but this is a whole other level. However, I should warn you, if you are not attracted to Shahrukh Khan, or find him less attractive as he ages, you will not enjoy this movie.
On the one hand, this was too good not to share. On the other hand, I’m not going to just rip off Tumblr and steal their page views. Oh happy happy day! I love New Shahrukh Release Day! The preparation and excitement are almost as much fun as actually seeing the film (sometimes more fun, RAEES! You were not a fun experience at all! Good movie, not fun).
(okay, if you speak Hindi, and have seen this film, that title is hilarious! Or at least, I find it funny) There was a “Best of Shammi” collection on sale at my local DVD store and I couldn’t resist. So be prepared for a fair number of Shammi films over the next few Fridays. Although I don’t know if any of them will be able to measure up to this one!
This is another one of those posts that I know I have said in various forms in other comments and stuff, but I thought I might as well write it all out in one place so we can think about it together. Once again, the war drums are beating as to why Shahrukh is playing too young, in a romance, and opposite a woman half his age. Replace “Shahrukh” with “Salman” or “Ajay” or “Akshay”, and the same question comes up. Let’s not settle for the simple “ageism!” or “midlife crisis!” explanation, let’s dig a little deeper.
Moviemavengal is on youtube, a couple of commentators pointed out if I want to drive up my blog views youtube is the place, and I was trapped all day Sunday in the only airconditioned room in my apartment with loads of time to work. So, it was time.
Yesterday I put out a kind of no news-news discussion post about why “Phurr” was having a limited pay only release, and why this wasn’t actually “news” it was just the first officially promoted version of something that had been happening in a low key way for a while. And now that is even more true because, poof! Youtube video!
Remember yesterday when I was driven to an existential crisis by the way the release of “Phurr” kept being delayed and delayed? Well, googling around today revealed there is a fascinating industry story behind it. “Phurr” is being publicized as the first song to be released behind a “paywall”. Which isn’t actually true, but that’s another story. (also, it’s on iTunes now, but also on Saavn, if you pay for the app like I do, you can download and listen as much as you want)

Only 2 (1?) days left! And finally, the movie that was my first thought when I saw the trailer, Pyaar to Hona Hi Tha. Which is very very hard to find and watch (thank you HotStar India and your obsession with copyright and streaming locations!), so forgive me if I miss-remember anything.
Okay, Aamir, you’ve won me over. After seeing that teaser over and over and over and over again, the trailer added enough new to it that I am interested.

Happy Tuesday! After a string of Telugu films, I dug deep and pulled out a Tamil! I could have watched one of my new Chennai DVDs, but instead I went with a recommendation from DDLJ17 and watched an older Rajnikanth film.
I feel like I have used this example before, but I can’t remember what for. Anyway, the new song from Jab Harry Met Sejal is (supposedly) coming ever closer to us. And yet I find myself thinking, “will it ever actually arrive? Or is this a Xeno’s paradox situation?” (and also, once again, I should not go on twitter!)
Happy 3 (or 2?) days until Jab Harry Met Sejal! It’s getting so close! And I really really hope it is even closer, not because I want to watch it 24 hours sooner, but because if it comes out Thursday that means I don’t have to write the review Friday night which means I might actually be able to get some sleep Friday night before I get up at dawn the next day to help my parents host 26 people. Although, I had a similar problem with the last Anushka/Shahrukh release and that turned out to be a MASSIVE disappointment, so maybe I shouldn’t worry so much. But on the other hand, their first movie together I loved. So it’s a mixed bag.
Yeah, nothing is ever going to be as pun friendly as Tubelight. Even Toilet, when it comes, will be just too obvious, no scope for invention. And this week I have to make do with alliteration. Well, I’m back to the classics! Because Bharatham starts with a “B” and therefore was next on my DVD shelf after ABCD. And also because I was in the mood for something thought provoking and good, and I knew this one would be.
Happy 4 (or 3? Please please?) days until the Jab Harry Met Sejal release! Time to talk about another film that I think might make an interesting background watch, Patiala House! Plus, I just love Patiala House and think more people should watch it.

I have to help my parents host a bunch of people the next day, so I am half looking forward to the movie and half dreading having to stay up until 2am writing reviews, and then get up at 6 the next day. I did a very comprehensive discussion of Imtiaz’s filmography yesterday, so today an easy small post, on Chaahat and Shahrukh as the hired lover type.
This is a hodgepodge one. You probably won’t know all of the films I use, but skim the whole post, there should be one buried in there that you do know. Odd couple screwball comedy adventures are such a stable of film that there are lots to choose from, from all different eras.
I already put up my No Spoilers review, which should answer the question “should I see this movie?” for you. This review is for “I don’t want to see this movie but I am mildly curious what it is about” or “I have just seen this movie and I’m not sure what to think about it” kind of people.
