I was doing my usual morning browse through the news sites for something worth talking about, and I ran across a bigger story than I expected. In the middle of photos from Priyanka’s Paris trip, and a follow-up story about the Udta Punjab piracy case, there was news that a Pakistani Qawwali singer who had worked in the Hindi film industry had been shot and killed while riding in a car in Karachi.
I finally saw Action Hero Biju! I missed it in theaters, so I was waiting for it to show up on einthusan, and it finally did! Well worth the wait. Very satisfying and soothing.
One of these really really doesn’t matter, but the other one kind of does, because it is hiding a story that does. Well, two stories

Yay, global figures are out! And, for the first time in weeks, there is an actual big name Hindi movie that I care about included.
Mohenjo Daro trailer! I know what I am doing on Independence Day! Although, I think some of the history might be a little slippery.
I think this movie may not have been made for me. Because I don’t “get” sports, and I’m also neither a father nor a son. And yet, I enjoyed it! Even without the deep level of understanding I would have if I could better relate to the character emotions, I still liked it!
2 industry news items today! One which is important in general for, like, society. And the other, which is very important for, like, ME!
The movie and the actor, not the actor nickname and his real life father. Although really, we have to talk about both, because one doesn’t make sense without the other. Oh, and also Rosie Thomas, my all time favorite Indian film scholar (tied with Anupama Chopra and Tejaswini Ganti) (oo, I just noticed while adding those links, Chopra’s Sholay book is now available on kindle! EXCELLENT!!! And Ganti’s Producing Bollywood! Oh, that is so TEMPTING! Can I justify buying them a second time just to have a different format?)
Happy Father’s Day! Not quite as fruitful a source for videos/films as Mother’s Day, but almost! And again, I am grateful that it happens every year so I don’t have to feel like I am limiting myself with just my choices for this year.

Such a disturbing movie. Like, not sure if I can go to sleep tonight kind of disturbing. Very disturbing. But also very high quality.
Of course, this is all super early reports and blah blah blah, the real answer will come on Monday, but so far Udta is looking good!
Rang De Basanti! So brilliant! So complicated! So different! I could write a post just on why Madhavan was cast. But I am going to start with this post, and not worry about putting in all my thoughts, and then leave the door open to write more later if I feel like it.
If you are like me, you have long been frustrated with how hard Netflix makes it to find all their Indian titles. OK Kanmani, for instance, I only learned was in their system when I searched for Mani Ratnam specifically. Fandry, I only know is there because moviemavengal reviewed it. If you have also been suffering and cursing their search parameters, I have news!
This story puzzles me. I understand that every movie needs a male and female lead. But if this biopic covers Sanjay’s whole life, how can there possibly be only ONE female lead? That’s not shade at Sanjay, it’s just a fact, he’s had at least 3 significant romances in his life, since that’s how many times he’s been married.
Ustad Hotel was like the second Malayalam film I saw. First Bangalore Days, then Ustad Hotel, then Ohm Shaanti Oshana. At the time I saw it first, I had nooooooooooo idea what was going on for long stretches of the film. But now I have seen like 30 Malayalam films in 6 months, so I know everything!
There’s a bunch of random little news stories today about random people, but they all connect in that they show how the public personality and persona that the media wants you to believe doesn’t always match reality.
I think, like myself, the world at large has gotten tired of no new SRK news, now that Fan promotions and IPL are over. So, since he isn’t poking his head out of doors, we are all scavenging around for whatever little scraps may be lying (laying?) around outside.
This is another one of those movies I like and no one else does. No one even asked me to put it on my to-do list, but I am doing it anyway, because I was traveling last week and need to write about something I know really well, even without re-watching it.
Karisma Kapoor’s divorce FINALLY went through! Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!! Oh, also there is a really weird picture of Aamir that just came out.
Udta Punjab is coming out! Yaaaaaaaaay!!! I am so happy! And I know what I will be doing this Friday night!
I already did a quick post on Bangalore Days a while back, but I just re-watched it and noticed a bunch of new stuff, so I am putting out a new post and you can’t stop me! Ha!
