New podcast! As I said in the review, I saw Raabta with my sister, thinking it would be a fun so-bad-it’s-good kind of sister experience, like when we watched Aashiqui 2 together. But it turned out to be actually good! So good that we spent 40 minutes talking about it on the way home.

My Chennai Haul!
Remember those series of posts I did over a month ago about my sister going to Chennai and what I should ask her to bring me? Well, she finally got home about two weeks ago, and then came to visit me this weekend and hand deliver everything. So I am reporting back to you all!
Raabta Review (NO SPOILERS): The Romantic Fantasy We Have All Been Craving!!!
I say “all”, but really it’s just a subset of the commentators here. But a strong subset. Which includes myself. I can enjoy an action film or a well-made drama, but there is just something about the big swoony romances with songs and impractical plots and lots of chemistry between the leads. And this film definitely delivers!
Shahrukh’s Movie Has a Stupid Title, Tubelight Has a Touching Song, and I Still Don’t Know What’s Going on in Jagga Jasoos
I take one day off twitter, and everything happens! It’s not fair! Shahrukh’s movie has a title, and a bunch of new posters, new Tubelight song is up which changes the plot, and Jagga Jasoos…..well, that one doesn’t really change anything, but it sure perplexes me!
Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge: Scene By Scene Analysis in Exhaustive Detail Index
This is one of my least popular, and most difficult, blog series. It’s hardcore analysis, social and shot by shot and narrative and history of the film industry and history of India and everything I have ever learned all in one place. I am up to section 20 now, and 100 screen shots, and I am barely past intermission. But I thought I should probably just put together an index post to make it easy for latecomers to catch up. And hopefully get a few more readers to justify the amount of effort I am putting in!
Continue readingHappy Birthday Dimple!
Happy Birthday Dimple! I cannot BELIEVE you are 60! You are still the most elegant, the classiest, the coolest lady in Hindi film. Here are 15 reasons I love you, one for every year you were alive when Bobby came out and made you a superstar. (this is a reposted and updated post from last year)
Happy Birthday Amrita Rao! 7 Songs to Show I Love You!
Amrita has been a bit forgotten lately (at least since she got married), but she was part of some great films. And some great songs. So why not celebrate that as she turns 36?
Happy Birthday Ekta Kapoor! Most Powerful Woman in the Industry!
You may say Farah or Zoya has more power, and maybe if you just look at the films they produced, okay. But if you look at all the stars and stories and production changes Ekta has done through film AND television, there is no contest. So, for her birthday, here are 18 reasons I love you, one for every hundred episodes produced of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (1833 in total). (this is an updated and reposted-post from last year)
Hindi Film 101: Shahrukh’s Filmography, Part 3!
Monday Morning Questions, First Week of June!
Happy June! I am in my new apartment, everything is better! Okay, my books and DVDs are still in boxes, but my clothes and dishes are put away. And I am ready for questions! So long as they don’t rely on me being able to reference something in a book or DVD.
Bahubali Theme post: Shakti and Shiva, Male and Female
Time to talk about gender! I love how Bahubali 1 and 2 deal with gender. I do not like how Bahubali 1, in isolation, deals with it. But that’s just because it was only half the story. The two films have to be viewed together for the concepts of the male and female and how they are handling them to become fully clear. (my last theme post is here, and my full Bahubali list of posts is here)
Bahubali Posts Index
I have written sooooooooo much on Bahubali, it’s kind of over-whelming. So to make it easier, here is one page that lists out every post written.
Ohm Shanthi Oshaana Podcast! We Are Both in Love With Nivin Pauly
Another podcast! No big new movie this week, so instead I invited Dina over to my place for a movie night. Which gave me the opportunity to finally force her to watch a Malayalam film. Ohm Shanthi Oshaana, which also meant that she immediately fell in love with Nivin Pauly.
Netflix List Update (Thanks to Accessbollywood.net): What to Watch and What to Skip
What are those birds that eat bugs off of the elephants? Or is that an urban legend? What I mean is, I feel kind of like those birds, existing off of someone else, because Accessbollywood.net does the real work of keeping this list updated, and then I just swoop in and put in recommendations and descriptions.
I Am Moved In! I Know You Are All Curious How it Went
I am writing this in my new apartment on my new internet sitting on my old couch and facing my old TV, but with a new-to-me coffee table (rescued from the trash, where all the best furniture comes from). Also, a dishwasher! Anyway, I thought I would take a break from unpacking boxes to tell you how the move went, since I have been pestering you with posts about it.
I’m Moving! For Real!
Last Saturday, there was a bit of a false alarm, I cut down on my posting because of my move, but I wasn’t actually moving, I was just spending the day knee deep in boxes. Today I am actually moving.
TGIF: BAHUBALI!!!!!!! (Prabhas)
Is this lazy? It’s not lazy. I’m about to finish all of Bahubali 2 scene by scene, why not celebrate with an entire Prabhas themed TGIF post.
New Podcast Announcement! With Special Guest, MovieMavenGal!
I haven’t put up a podcast in a few weeks, because there hasn’t been anything to watch for a few weeks (except Bahubali over and over and over again). But I thought it would be a good time to put up a podcast MovieMavenGal and I recorded a while back, actually the beginning of our Angamaly Diaries conversation. Especially since MovieMavenGal just started putting up her video reviews!
Monday Morning Questions Post, the Week I Move Apartments!
Happy Monday! I am writing this from my parent’s guest room, because my apartment is now so packed up, it has become unlivable. So this will be a bit of an odd week in Margaret-world, hiding out in the back bedroom at my parents and occasionally “visiting” my real place to put a few more things in boxes. But that just means all the more reason you should ask me stuff and distract me!
I’m Moving! Well, In a Week. Right Now, I’m Packing!
I finally found the perfect apartment that fits all my impossible requirements, yay!!!! But now I have to put everything I own in boxes, boooooo. So while I sweat and strain and throw my back out, you can read this post and try to picture it.
Bahubali 2 Scene By Scene Part 15: Mahishmati “Justice” and “Dandaalayya”
I continue my crawl through the judgement/banishment scene! I truly did not realize how deep this section went while I was watching it, it’s only while writing this report that I realized how many moving parts there were. Essentially Part 13 was the personal layer, Part 14 was the massive internal issues going on with Prabhas and what this said about him (and his son). And now Part 15 is where I can get into the general question of what this scene says about Mahishmati, and a little bit into the banishment period.
Wednesday Watching Post: What Have You Been Reading and Watching and Thinking The Week I Start Moving?
Happy Wednesday! Halfway through the week, 4 more days until my sister is back from India and my sleep schedule gets normal again. Coffee is almost the same as sleep, right? Anyway, it does mean that I’ve been getting a lot of blogging down, so that’s something. Many pre-scheduled posts for the next few weeks have been finished.
Happy Birthday Madhuri! 50 Years old and better than ever
Yay, it’s Madhuri’s birthday! Officially, in America, not just in India like when I put up my last post. I already posted the first 25 reasons I love her, now here are 24 more. (this is an updated and reposted post from last year)
Support Me on Patreon!!! And Get Cool Prizes!
This is another post for those people who really care about the blog, not the ones who just come here off and on. If you just come here off and on, ignore this and go about your day. If you are interested in how I am doing and what I am doing and all that, you can read on.
Happy Teachers Day! Waheedaji to Tiger Shroff
Happy Teachers Day! So many sexy teacher songs in Indian film! Every film director in the world must have had a massive crush on a teacher at some point. Which means, even though I did this post last year, I can easily update it with some new songs and scenes for this year. (this is an updated and reposted post)
