Boy, it’s been awhile since I did a real news round-up, isn’t it? Partly because the releases have been going boom-boom-boom for the past few months, so with my weekly southern reviews, and new movie news, and then Bahubali, there just hasn’t been time. But this week it’s kind of slow, I don’t have another review ready yet, might as well do a quick news round-up.
I take one day off twitter, and everything happens! It’s not fair! Shahrukh’s movie has a title, and a bunch of new posters, new Tubelight song is up which changes the plot, and Jagga Jasoos…..well, that one doesn’t really change anything, but it sure perplexes me!
Ramadan! ‘Tis the season for film promotions! Because there’s nothing actually coming out (except Raabta), so all we can do is get excited for the things that will be releasing later.
Happy Easter! I am going to cut up cardboard in the basement with my Sunday School class, and then maybe have brunch with Grandpa afterwards to celebrate. Oh, and eat the chocolate bunny that my parents gave me. And also, think about the most Easter-y of all Indian films, Amar Akbar Anthony!
I am trying to keep each of these posts to around 2,000 words, just seems like anything more would be too over-whelming! Which means I had to break Ranbir off from his Dad. But, as a bonus, I am tossing in his youngest uncle (not much to say about Rajiv). And I will be back on Thursday to deal with the “other” Kapoors, Anil and Sonam and their clan. This is the first of 3 trailers that came out today, and they are all so important I am giving them each their own post! This is the first one to put up, because I think it is the one there is the most to say about.
I don’t mean he’s getting the famous Kapoor figure (fingers crossed he never has that). Or the onscreen charm (he has always had that), but he is beginning to get just a hint of that terrifying interview quality. From what I’ve seen and read, it sounds like all the Kapoor men (except Shashi) have that a little bit, that slight hint of “Lord of the Manor, Don’t Cross Me or I’ll Have You Killed” in their eyes. On the other hand, Ranveer is still a total sweetheart. (first episode discussed here, and second here, and third here)
Many interesting things to discuss with this story! Mostly gossip stuff not industrial but, hey, in the Indian film industry, gossip IS industrial!
Woo! I’m gonna finish in time for Dear Zindagi week! Really, the end-end goes remarkably fast. Although it still has the patented “Karan Johar doesn’t know how to end a movie” touch.
I saw ADHM for the second time last night and, just as I suspected, I enjoyed it much more on a second watch, when I knew what was going to happen and I could focus on just appreciating how they built it up. And this also means I have a much clearer memory of the details, and can come back to my full summary in multiple parts, all renewed and refreshed!
Just like Happy New Year and “Sharaabi” or Dilwale and “Premika”, Karan Johar is keeping the buzz going and celebrating a successful first week of ADHM by releasing another song. But he must be sitting on another song video, because this is not the one I was waiting for!
I’m just assuming this is going to turn into multiple parts. Shivaay I’m going to knock out in one looooooooooong post, but this movie is a lot more interesting than that one. I put up my Spoilers review first, for once, because I wanted a place for people who had already seen the movie to discuss it. But now it’s time for a review for people who haven’t seen the movie yet, and are curious what other people think about it. But NO SPOILERS. Because the plot is very carefully constructed to build point to point, and if you do decide to see the movie, you should try to go in fresh.
Normally I’m not that careful about spoilers on this blog. I flag them when I put them into a post, I put up spoiler and non-spoiler reviews, but I don’t care if you read the spoiler review before you see the movie, or if you put a spoil in a comment, or whatever. However, in this case, I’d like to try to keep the experience that Karan carefully crafted for the audience. So I’m putting up this review early, so everyone who has seen it has a place to think about and talk about the film as a whole. And then the other review will be for people who haven’t seen the movie yet, but are planning to.
The biggest news is really the meta-news that there are 3 news stories about ADHM to one about Shivaay. Clearly, the people who run English language industry news sites are pretty sure that their readers care more about ADHM then Shivaay news.
Newest tax reports are out, and as of right now, Salman is paying the highest estimated taxes of the film industry. And it might be even higher, because he is suing for a looooooooooot of money from a TV channel.
Happy Birthday Ranbir! I’m not giving you 33 reasons, because you haven’t been in enough movies for me to come up with them! Plus, I am worn out after my 84 for Yash Chopra. But, I will give you 12! And maybe, if Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is really good, you will earn 34 for next year.
The full Ae Dil Hai Mushkil trailer is out! And it’s basically the same as the two song teasers we already saw! No big surprises.
I had a whole back and forth in my head about whether or not to talk about this story, but then Rishi came out with a statement, so now it feels like fair game.
New Ae Dil Hai Mushkil song video! Which shows new clips, but they don’t really reveal anything we didn’t already know. Except, so many coats! I’m really excited for coat weather now.
Maybe this has happened before and I just haven’t noticed it, but it feels unusual to me, the speed and excitement over creating fanvids the minute the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil song came out!
I was going to stay up all night waiting for Karan to release it on twitter, after he teased it would be sometime today (in India). Thank goodness I didn’t, because he released it like an hour ago, so I would have been up all night. But, yay! Now it’s here!
I did a stupid stupid thing, and stayed up until midnight my time so I could see the Karan Johar Ae Dil Hai Mushkil teaser as soon as he posted it at 10am India time. But now that I have stayed up, I might as well write about it real quick before I finally go to sleep!
This is one of those posts with a few interesting news stories, and one REALLY REALLY important news story.
