I am a bit over the “greatest tragedy in the world is a wealthy upper class man who just wants to be an artist” film trope. Which was probably clear from the title if this post. Indian, American, French, Norwegian, it’s all the same thing, and I am SICK OF IT. Good lord, just count your blessings and get over yourself.

Fanney Khan Review (SPOILERS): 1st World Problems Shoved Into a 3rd World Film
I already put up my No Spoilers review. You can read that if you are obsessed with avoiding spoilers, or you can read this. It’s a remake, so most of the plot is already is to find out, not like I am revealing big secrets here.
Puppies! And Amar Akbar Anthony
Silly post, but I just got an email from the animal shelter foster listserve I am on and I have to share a joke with you. (Don’t worry, it’s a highly funded no-kill shelter, these little guys will get adopted in no time)
Fanney Khan Review (No Spoilers): Too Much Sincerity and Too Little Honesty
Well, this was not a good movie! But a not-good movie in that way where I could see the goodness struggling to break through, and then being suffocated by bad choices. Very frustrating, with a different cast and a slightly different script, this could have been something special.
News Round-Up: Hrithik Will Dance, Salman Will Circus, and Priyanka Will Promote Herself
It was so nice not reporting Priyanka news for years and years. But now she is back and I can’t escape her. And I really don’t like it, because it makes me sound a little mean and a lot crazy, but on the other hand, it is what it is and this is the only way to interpret it. Other stuff is more interesting though, so I can talk lots and lots about that and little little about PC.
Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me the First Week of August?
Happy Monday! I was up way way too late yesterday watching two disappointing movies back to back. Good news is, we snuck into the second one so I didn’t have to pay twice, just watch twice. Anyway, keep me awake! Ask me questions!
Rajan Nanda, Husband of Ritu Kapoor Nanda and Father-in-Law of Shweta Bachchan, has Passed Away
I don’t have much to say about this, because Rajan was a Delhi businessman, not a movie person. But I am irritated that it is being reported incorrectly in all the press, his Kapoor connection ignored in favor of his Bachchan one, and that is forcing me to write a post.
Silly Sunday: Malayalam LM Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables with Nivin Pauly
I’m doing it! A totally ridiculous extremely specific post for those people who live within the Venn diagram overlap of “Familiar with Malayalam Films” and also “Familiar with the Anne of Green Gables Series”. So, Angie. You better appreciate this Angie!
Happy Birthday Again Kajol! Helicopter Eela Trailer!!!!!
Oh wow, this movie looks so good! I thought it was going to be some sort of kitschy come back thing just riding on Kajol’s popularity, but no, it looks really really good! All on its own. The script idea is great, and Kajol is the perfect person to carry it off.
Happy Birthday Kajol!!!! 44 Reasons I Love You
It’s Kajol’s birthday! YAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! I LOVE her! Love love love! So I am going to do a full 44 reasons I love her, one for every year she’s been alive. Oh boy! (this is an updated and reposted post from last year)
Saturday Night Report, Laundry and Dog Hazel
Well, I just spent the past 4 hours working flat out to finish laundry. And Dog Hazel supervised. She was NOT helpful.
Saturday Small Talk: What Do We All Want to Talk About Today?
Happy Saturday! I am sleeping in, or at least trying to (I always have a hard time sleeping in). So I am writing this from The Past so you have a place to talk amongst yourselves while I sleep (hopefully).
Happy Birthday to Kishore Kumar!!!! A Dozen Reasons I Love You
Well, this is ridiculous. In the course of one week, the 3 major singers of Hindi film were all born. I guess if we are looking for the next big thing, the key is to check for an end of July/beginning of August birthday.
Friday Classics: Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi for Kishoreda’s Birthday
This is a classic, but a fun classic. The kind of movie that you don’t want to pick at too much because then you will end up ruining it. Which means, yaaaay! Probably a short review.
Happy Birthday to My Japanese Located Reader!!!!!
Assuming I understood what you meant by “weekend after next” several days back, this is your birthday!!!!! Or the day before your birthday!!!! Or the day before the day before your birthday!!!!! Congratulations!!!!! If I were a really good person, I would have watched a classic Bengali film for you, but I didn’t. The best I can do is this post.
News Round-Up: John Talks Sarfarosh, Pa Ranjith Talks Hindi, Everyone Talks PC
Well, this is the gossip cycle that will never end. I don’t know why I am surprised, this is how it happens, right? The gossip comes out, and then everyone reacts to it, and then everyone reacts to the reactions. And I am part of the problem, because it is just barely on the line of affecting the industry and the big messages of stuff so I feel like I should talk about it. Oh, and also Pa Ranjith might make a Hindi film, yaaaaay!
Yes Yes, I Updated the Site Design
I do this every once in a while, and I don’t say anything, but that must be disturbing for you, right? To show up and everything has changed? So now I am acknowledging it. Yes! Things are Different!
My Top Ten Ugly Crying Indian Films
I suddenly got one of my random Kannathil Muthamittal urges last night, and it made me think that I haven’t done a ten ugly crying films post yet. Of course, ugly crying is a deeply personal thing, so these are my ten, but they won’t necessarily be yours. Feel free to share your particular triggers in the comments! Oh, and they are almost all Hindi, but that’s just a coincidence, don’t feel limited by that.
Wednesday Watching Post: What Are You Watching and Reading and Thinking About This Week?
Happy Wednesday! I stayed up much too late last night and now I am sleep at work (again). But I got the Tuesday Telugu out on time by golly!
Happy Birthday Mohammed Rafi!!!! A Dozen Reasons I Love You (Better Late than Never)
Wow, end of July is a good time for singers to be born! Sonu and then Rafi. Sonu I was at least able to make a start at listing all his important songs, Rafi I can’t even attempt that challenge. So don’t look at this as a comprehensive list, just a starting point.
Tuesday Telugu: S/O Satyamurthy, Allu Arjun Does His Thing
I am getting more and more fond of Allu Arjun with every movie. He has this attitude like he is playing someone playing a movie hero, you know? It’s all just slightly exaggerated, and I love it.
Happy Birthday Harry Potter! Your Story is so Universal, It Will Translate to Hindi Film
I wrote this Fanfic ages ago and not many people read it. But I figure if it is ever going to get any attention, Harry Potter’s birthday is the best chance.
Discussion Post: Who Are the Most Feminist Actresses in India?
Thanks to Alisa/Bollywood Newbie for the idea! I always think it is good to give positive feedback, so let’s talk about what actresses we admire most for what they have done for women. Maybe it will just be me and Alisa going back and forth, but we’ll have a good time and that is good enough.
News Round-Up: Priyanka and Her Evil Twin Priyanka, Aish and Abhi, KriArj and Fanney Khan, Hrithik and Tiger, Akki and Bebo
This is usually the day I do my box office report, but I went over to BH to get the numbers and ran into a bunch of news stories I thought I should talk about first. So box office is coming, eventually, but first news for us!
Monday Malayalam: Molly Aunty Rocks, The Middle-Aged NRI Woman Is Here to Save Us
Interesting movie. Some of it I liked, some of it I didn’t, but most of all it had a middle aged working woman heroine going up against a young single guy antagonist! Very odd combination, very satisfying.
