This came up because of a comment in our JHMS discussion yesterday. About how it felt like in some ways the happy ending for “Harry” resolved a lot of unhappy endings for similarly noble Shahrukh lover characters. Which got me thinking about what might be the same and different in how SRK romances play out. So, let’s look at an assortment of romances. 7 at a go, because I want to discuss them in depth and then discuss them cumulatively.
Yesterday I did a “serious” post, best films, so today I get to do another “silly” one! 29 songs of Shahrukh.
This is considerably longer than it was last year, but we are going to have a string of light posts over the next few days, so I thought I should try to give you something a little more substantive today. And you can all argue with me in the comments about what I left out and what is in the wrong order and so on and so on.
I sense a disturbance in the world of my blog. On one side, I have many many voices crying out in joy at the thought of 31 full days of SRK posts. And then on the other side, I have not quite as many voices crying out in despair. So, here’s the deal. I will continue my Monday and Tuesday reviews. And my Friday Classics. And I’ll throw in news posts and so on. It won’t be all SRK all the time. But all TGIF and Sunday fanfic content will be replaced by SRK focused items. I mean, most of the people who read those are SRKians anyway, right? And every day there will be a special SRK birthday post counting down 31 to 1. Some of them very very silly (as this one will be), and some of them serious (for instance, best performances). If you don’t absolutely hate SRK, at least read the headline topic for the post before deciding not to read it, there will be good content in here.
Shahrukh must be celebrating his one-month-before birthday too! And he has given us/me a little gift, another deleted scene. And a really juicy one with lots to discuss! (full index of JHMS coverage here)
Tomorrow is the start of Shahrukh’s birthday month, which means you will have to suffer through 30 Days o’ SRK on this website. But before we get into that, I want to try to explain why he means so much to some of us, why a good half of my blog audience is reacting to the news of 30 Days o’ SRK with silent cheers. At least, what I think it is.
Remember how all the teaser trailer releases were coded love messages from SRK to me? Well, I think these deleted scenes might be as well! He knew my view count was going down with no big releases for the past few weeks and, to help me out, he is posting these videos. Apparently, the move was going to be even sexier. And then they cut this part, no doubt in fear of law suits because of fainting and heart attacks in the theater. And also, it doesn’t quite work as well with the plot. (full JHMS coverage here)
This is essentially a joint post. I am not lucky enough to have a copy of this book, but Gwen from the comments is and put up excerpts for us from each section. YAAAAAY! I want to post them here to make sure you all see them, and also add on what I can, that is, a little more background information about each film/director.
Earlier today, Claudia in the comments of my Silly Sunday post requested a mature Shahrukh-Kajol love story. And then I sat down to watch my weekly Malayalam film, Bhaskar the Rascal, and BOOM! That’s the romance!!! It’s PERFECT!!! And so I am about to spoil an entire film, just so you can see how right I am.
There was a comment on last week’s post, by Asmita I think, about liking it when men are surrounded by strong women. Which sent me down this whole rabbit hole in a direction I don’t think she anticipated, and I have come out the other side with a simple plot in mind that can be applied to any hero. I am excited!
Well, we all had good fun on my post this morning coming up with alternative plot-necessary reasons for Shahrukh to be sexy at 11 for an entire film. The clear winner was a James bond themed plot with someone of equal sexiness like Madhuri. And then the runner up that was my favorite, Shahrukh as James Bond type who falls for the glasses wearing Moneypenny type.
A total indulgence here. Now that we have seen Shahrukh play an entire film with the sexy cranked up to 11 (full JHMS coverage here), I am toying with ideas for other films he could be in with a similar effect. You know, because the story requires it of course. UPDATE: Following suggestions in the comments, I added more sexy SRK options here
Another Index finished! And I think this might be the last one? Because Bahubali is already indexed, and there hasn’t really been anything else that big this year.

This is perhaps my least favorite part of the movie. Not because it is boring or unbeautiful or anything, just because it feels like the part that fits least with the rest of it. I can make it work (as I will explain below), but it isn’t quite the perfect fit with no struggle that the rest of the film is. (full index of Jab Harry Met Sejal posts here)

Happy Thursday! My 4th and final watch is tonight. Which is usually the watch where I stop enjoying the film. 1st time, so-so, but there is so much to process I am overwhelmed. 2nd time, much better, I can relax and focus. 3rd time, usually as good as the 2nd time. 4th time, now I am starting to get bored because I know absolutely everything already. And then 5th time is DVD/streaming a couple months later, and I am back in. Anyway, good news is, now that I have seen it 3 times, my memories are pretty locked in and I can do the scene by scenes without struggling too much. (full JHMS index here)
Oh boy! Moving right along, I’m like a whole 5 minutes in! Which wouldn’t seem like a lot, except I’ve been working on my DDLJ scene by scene, and that is sooooooooooooooo much slower. And here I am, only on part 2, and we are already past the opening credits! Woo-hoo! Lightening speed! (although, in case you were wondering, no DDLJ today, skipping another Wednesday. Oh happy happy day! I love New Shahrukh Release Day! The preparation and excitement are almost as much fun as actually seeing the film (sometimes more fun, RAEES! You were not a fun experience at all! Good movie, not fun).
I feel like I have used this example before, but I can’t remember what for. Anyway, the new song from Jab Harry Met Sejal is (supposedly) coming ever closer to us. And yet I find myself thinking, “will it ever actually arrive? Or is this a Xeno’s paradox situation?” (and also, once again, I should not go on twitter!)
Happy 3 (or 2?) days until Jab Harry Met Sejal! It’s getting so close! And I really really hope it is even closer, not because I want to watch it 24 hours sooner, but because if it comes out Thursday that means I don’t have to write the review Friday night which means I might actually be able to get some sleep Friday night before I get up at dawn the next day to help my parents host 26 people. Although, I had a similar problem with the last Anushka/Shahrukh release and that turned out to be a MASSIVE disappointment, so maybe I shouldn’t worry so much. But on the other hand, their first movie together I loved. So it’s a mixed bag.
Happy Jab Harry Met Sejal calendar week! Only 5 more days (or 4, please please please release a day early in the US! It will make my life SO MUCH EASIER!).
