More trailers! I tell you, Eid is exhausting. Plus there’ve been fireworks on my street the past couple of nights, which is also exhausting. But it’s all worth it, because THANK GOODNESS Zero is looking a little better.

Thursday Tamil: Kaala Review (No Spoilers), People Are Not Unhygenic
I made a big fuss (okay, a modest fuss) about how Carol should see the Tamil version not the dubbed, and then I ended up at the dubbed. Oh well, it was either that or wait until Saturday. So instead I did a dubbed version at a midweek show which means I will be yawning and fussing through work tomorrow.
TGIW: Dhoti Men, Because My Boss is Out of the Office Today
My boss is gone today which means I can look at photos on my computer without fear of being observed and judged. Well, my co-workers might judge me, but whatever, I don’t care what they think. And I was just talking with Meenakshy about who looks good in a Dhoti, so why not do a Dhoti post? Similar too but different from my previous Lungi post. (for the purposes of this post, “Dhoti” means any single cloth that is used as a wrap skirt by an Indian man)
Gossip Cliff Notes: Biggest Stories of Hindi Film, Speaking Them Kills Their Power
We’ve been talking about gossip back and forth for the past few weeks, and I’ve been thinking about all those stories that are just sort of in the air around us with no one ever actually saying them straight out. They are more poisonness that way, I think, floating around powerful and unspoken. So, let’s speak them! I’ll start with a list of every gossip story I have heard, and you can add on whatever I have missed.
Trailers! 1 Dhadak, 2 Sanjus, and 5 Weddings
So many videos while I was gone! Oh well, I will try to catch up with them all now, plus 5 Weddings because filmilibrarian asked for it.
Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want To Ask Me Today? And Question For You, What is A Gossip Story that Will Not Die?
Happy Monday! I am on a plan for the middle of the morning, so I may not answer as quickly as usual. But I would still love to hear from you!
News Round-Up: Old Feuds, Old Loves, New Movie Theaters
This is a suuuuuuuuper fast news report, because I am still on vacation and I want to spend time with my sister, not blog. But I also feel it’s not fair to all of you, who read me so faithfully, not to provide content! And anyway, there were a couple of interesting stories today.
Silly Sunday: Sexy Films for Hrithik, Star Romance for Anyone
It came up in discussion that Hrithik has one tragic gap in his filmography: not enough straight sexiness!!!! And, as his impending inevitable sexy horizon comes ever closer (have you see Rakesh? Not a good sign for middle-aged Duggu!), it is increasingly important that he grabs these chances while he has them. Also from discussion, why is there no movie about a movie star falling in love with an average girl? It seems like such an obvious fantasy!
Saturday Small Talk: I’m on Vacation! What Movie Should We Watch Tonight?
Greetings from not-Chicago! My sister and I have taken off for a weekend, she just finished a job search and a move, and I wanted a trip.
Happy Birthday Sonam!!!! 15 Reasons I Love You!
Happy Birthday Sonam! So many birthdays in early June! But that’s no reason to ignore Sonam. Especially right after her wedding, and her wedding movie (this is an updated and reposted post from last year)
TGIF: Birthday Girl Face Off! Dimple Versus Shilpa Versus Amrita Versus Sonam
Well, this is an interesting little burst of birthdays. Ekta is in here too, but she’s not a professional face person, so I’m not going to mix her in with the rest. But I think it is fair for Dimple, Shilpa, Amrita, and Sonam to all challenge each other.
Happy Birthday Dimple! 15 Reasons I Love You
Happy Birthday Dimple! I cannot BELIEVE you are 61! You are still the most elegant, the classiest, the coolest lady in Hindi film. Here are 15 reasons I love you, one for every year you were alive when Bobby came out and made you a superstar. (this is a reposted and updated post from last year)
Friday Classics: I Hate Luv Storys, for Sonam’s Birthday
This is a birthday-full week, so I considered Bobby for Dimple, Main Khiladi Tu Anari for Shilpa, Vivah for Amrita, and Delhi 6 for Sonam. And then I thought “Eh, I’m going on a mini-break, I don’t want to think deep thoughts, I Hate Luv Storys it is!”
Happy Birthday Shilpa Shetty! A Dozen Reasons I Love You
Happy Birthday Shilpa! You aren’t the most talented or trained of actresses, but you are definitely one of the most loveable! In honor of your birthday, 12 reasons that I love you, one for every two years since Baazigar. (this is an updated and reposted post from last year)
Happy Birthday Amrita Rao!
Amrita has been a bit forgotten lately (at least since she got married), but she was part of some great films. And some great songs. So why not celebrate that as she turns 37? (this is an updated and reposted post from last year)
Happy Birthday Ekta Kapoor!
You may say Farah or Zoya has more power, and maybe if you just look at the films they produced, okay. But if you look at all the stars and stories and production changes Ekta has done through film AND television, there is no contest. So, for her birthday, here are 18 reasons I love you, one for every hundred episodes produced of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi (1833 in total). (this is an updated and reposted-post from last year)
Veere Di Women: What Films Should You Watch if You Want More Swara, Sonam, Shikha, and Kareena?
I don’t know about you, but I came out of Veere going “where have these women been all my life? They are WONDERFUL!!!” So if you had the same reaction, here are some suggestions of what to watch to catch up with them.
Tuesday Telugu: Magadheera, or KAJAL! Can You Do ANYTHING USEFUL!?!?!?!
Angie suggested I re-review this a few weeks back, and this week I am super busy (heads up: possibly no new reviews at all next week), so I didn’t have time to watch something new. Summer weekends are hard! I may need to officially move off of Monday and Tuesday and on to Wednesday and Thursday because I just can’t find the time to watch movies on Saturday and Sunday. Anyway, life gives me lemons, and I make lemonade: a chance to review a film that deserves a second look but doesn’t need a second watch!
Wedding Songs Post! In Honor of My Cousin Getting Engaged
Have I mentioned that we have been short staffed at work due to a killer flu that is making it’s way through the employees for the past TWO WEEKS??? Anyway, I don’t always have as much time to write a post in the middle of the day as I could wish. So I am going to make up for that with a quick fun songs post.
Hindi Film 101: Sanjay Dutt, Part 8, The Women
I’m back! For another look at some of the parts we have already covered, and a look ahead at some new parts. Sanjay, and the women of his life. (full index of Hindi Film 101 including the other Sanjay parts here)
Let’s Make a Match! Arjuns Edition (with bonus Hrithik)
Sorry to those of you who like deep thoughtful posts, my brain is fried and I have no thoughtfulness available too me. Also, I have to write a church service. Also do laundry. It’s a busy week, no time for thought today! So, join me in total superficiality!
Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me Today?
Happy Monday! I made it through my weird weekend, with a nice solid “I am just sitting here reading” 6 hours in the middle. And therefore, I am behind schedule again and Monday Malayalam will be on Wednesday or something. Oh well, at least I managed to scrabble out reviews for both of the new movies.
Silly Sunday: Female Friendship Vengeance Story, Inspired by Alia and Ranbir and Kat
Happy Sunday! I wrote soooooooooooooooo much yesterday, and like good high quality stuff, reviews of Bhavesh Joshi and Veere Di Wedding. So this morning, I get to write short total trash, in a nice change of pace. Let’s pretend the world is a bad romance novel of the Judith Kranz type and rewrite reality!
Veere Di Wedding Review (SPOILERS): Feminist By Building Up Female Characters Without Tearing Down Male
I’m gonna suggest you don’t spoil yourself for this one. Beyond knowing that none of the disappointing shallow views of female friendship that the trailer promised actually happened. No drunken fight to wait for, no jealousy over a man, not even an evil domineering mother. But as for what actually does happen, if at all possible, try to let it play out for you as it was meant to be played, just read the no spoilers review and save this review for after you have seen it on the big screen.
Veere Di Wedding Review (No Spoilers): Not Women Behaving Badly, Just Women Behaving Like Woman
This is a very very very very very good movie. I had to jump through a lot of hoops to see it, and it was absolutely worth it. Congrats to Rhea and Sonam, they have made the perfect female friendship movie.
