Such an interesting movie! A light tone and a dark story. In keeping with it’s predecessor, The Apartment. Oh, and don’t worry too much about SPOILERS on this one if you haven’t seen it before, everything is more or less predictable.
I did this for Shahrukh already, and I found it fascinating! To look at the broad sweep of a 25+ career and see where were the low periods and the high periods and the genre experiments and everything, and also where the industry was going in each era, the changes in the production houses and directors and co-stars, and all kinds of juicy things. Aamir seems like he should be similarly fascinating. Plus, thanks to his perfectionist style, far fewer films! I should be able to knock this out in two parts. Three at the most
My first fanfic post was very long, had no SRK, and only had one story option. All of these things have resulted in the past in a lack of interest from the readership. So to make it up I am going to do something short, with a lot of options, and lots of SRK.
I was going to do a “100 years of history in 10” list, and then I realized there AREN’T actually 10 jodis of equal level. So I am just going to introduce you to the really really big ones and without worrying about how many I include or putting them in order or anything.
I feel bad only giving her a dozen, but on the other hand I am also taking time from visiting my sister to write this post, and using my sister’s stupid mac computer to do it (the mouse only has one button! What is this MADNESS!), so that should count for something. Oh well, next year I will give her 2 dozen reasons to make up for it.
Happy Amitabh’s birthday again! And, because it is his birthday, I thought I would do a Shahrukh birthday post that could kind of work for Amitji too. So, co-stars!!!! Not in order in any way, just 22 that are interesting to think about.
It has come up every once in awhile that there aren’t as many really family type films as their used to be. And it has also come up that the past few Sundays have been extremely sexy. So, no sex! Just fun family times this week! Which probably means my view count will suffer, but oh well. (if you want sex, you can check out last week’s post)
Happy Sunday! I am about to go to church for a Sunday School committee meeting, followed by Sunday school, followed by the fall involvement fair, followed by the services committee meeting. And this whole time I will know in my heart that I am secretly the kind of person who has written a “Shahrukh Khan as a prostitute” fanfic.
Something a bit different, this could easily be a blog post but it would be a long boring one, and I would probably get angry comments on it. So instead, a video! Which will either be completely ignored, or I will get angry comments on youtube, but I don’t care as much about youtube people.

Hmm. After the full flush of creativity last week, I don’t really have much this week. I need ideas! Give me help in the comments! Your favorite movie, book, actor couple anything to start me off. A total indulgence here. Now that we have seen Shahrukh play an entire film with the sexy cranked up to 11 (full JHMS coverage here), I am toying with ideas for other films he could be in with a similar effect. Needed a nice way to wind down Monday night, so I browsed around for some nice new fanvids to share. And now I am posting them for you, so you have a nice way to get through Tuesday!
Is that his last gangster role? It feels like it is anyway. Not counting Don, where he is more a kind of globalized loner gangster, and less a gritty street fighter gangster. Which is what he plays here. Very very poorly. This is not a good movie.
Just for the joy of it, I am going to write about Tum Mere Ho, potentially the worst movie Aamir has ever been in. One of those movies that it feels like the producer ran out of money so they just stopped filming and called it “the end”. I’m sure I will figure out a way that it relates to Dangal, but mostly just want to remind us all that Aamir has a past before his “great actor” period.
I thought we should start the week out on a light note, so two nice light stories.
Not just the Yash Chopra romance, but the whole history of Indian film romance. There’s a little bit of Sargam, there’s a little bit of Johnny Mere Naam, a little bit of Andaaz. Only it’s all slightly twisted, slightly off and evil.
Priety’s married! For real now, because we have pictures. Including photos of her husband “Gene Goodenough” (still sounds like the name of a cartoon character).
I last saw this movie right after it came out, and it was soooooooooooo good that I never felt the need to watch it again for another 10 years. I remembered it so perfectly, after one viewing, because it was so clever and charming and unusual, that I didn’t really need to see it again, I could just play it over in my head. But then I started to wonder, could it really be as good as I remembered? And the answer is “No! It’s even better!”
It makes no sense! I can barely get over the idea that Amrita Singh and Juhi Chawla would be fighting over Jackie Shroff (Even I have to admit that he does look good in a mustache), but why would Jackie Shroff ever be interested in Amrita Singh if he could get Juhi Chawla? She is so clearly superior!
