This is Voter Registration week in America, so the perfect week to talk about Yuva! (yes yes, I know Aaytha Ezhuthu is better, I can’t find it, and I’ve already seen Yuva)

Silly Sunday: The Godfather with The Three Khans and Shahrukh as the Hero
Raajneeti, Sarkar, and the original film, I have been on a bit of a Godfather binge (I also rewatched 1 and 2 over the past couple days). So now the inevitable final step, writing my own version.
TGIF: For the Birthday Girl, Kareena Versus Kareena Versus Kareena!!!
Usually I do birthday versus birthday, but Kareena has had a long enough career, I think she can be a challenge all in herself.
Happy Birthday Kareena!!!! 38 Reasons I Love You
Happy Birthday Bebo! Let’s see if I can come up with a full 36 reasons to love you! I think I probably can.
Hindi Film 101: 5 Kinds of Item Songs, and Only One of Them is Bad
Every once in a while the war drums start beating about how item songs are the cause of all the bad things that happen to women in India, and it always bothers me, because “item songs” ends up including a whole range of songs that are completely different in meaning. Oh, and this is kind of a partner with this post that goes into what objectification means, and this post that talks about male and female gaze)
Karan Johar Announces New Movie Takht, The Return of the Mughal and the Return of Poetry to Hindi Film
Okay Karan, I’ll let you make me stay up late one more night. I am so tired, but this can’t wait until morning.
News Round-Up: Priyanka and Her Evil Twin Priyanka, Aish and Abhi, KriArj and Fanney Khan, Hrithik and Tiger, Akki and Bebo
This is usually the day I do my box office report, but I went over to BH to get the numbers and ran into a bunch of news stories I thought I should talk about first. So box office is coming, eventually, but first news for us!
Veere Di Women: What Films Should You Watch if You Want More Swara, Sonam, Shikha, and Kareena?
I don’t know about you, but I came out of Veere going “where have these women been all my life? They are WONDERFUL!!!” So if you had the same reaction, here are some suggestions of what to watch to catch up with them.
Veere Di Wedding Review (SPOILERS): Feminist By Building Up Female Characters Without Tearing Down Male
I’m gonna suggest you don’t spoil yourself for this one. Beyond knowing that none of the disappointing shallow views of female friendship that the trailer promised actually happened. No drunken fight to wait for, no jealousy over a man, not even an evil domineering mother. But as for what actually does happen, if at all possible, try to let it play out for you as it was meant to be played, just read the no spoilers review and save this review for after you have seen it on the big screen.
Veere Di Wedding Review (No Spoilers): Not Women Behaving Badly, Just Women Behaving Like Woman
This is a very very very very very good movie. I had to jump through a lot of hoops to see it, and it was absolutely worth it. Congrats to Rhea and Sonam, they have made the perfect female friendship movie.
TGIF: Wedding Outfits!!!! Pick Your Favorites
Yaaaay! A super fun one inspired by Sonam’s Party of the Century wedding earlier this week. Wedding dresses! Combining both the full formal wedding sari, and the fun reception outfits, so we get two sets of dresses to gaze at.
Male Gaze/Female Gaze Pop Quiz Post!!!!
I put up a post a few days ago which did NOT get as many views as it deserved (because it was really good! Read it here!), so now I am going to put up a fun version of it. Can you pick the correct answer?????
Veere Di Wedding Trailer! My Hopes and Dreams for the Plot Based on the Plotless Trailer
You’ve all probably already said everything you have to say, but if you feel like repeating it all over again, here is this space! Because I finally got around to watching the trailer, and now I can talk about it.
Talaash: A Very Strange Love Triangle and a Wonderful Picture of a Marriage
Welcome to the beginning of Aamir Day! No real reason, I just want to give him his own index just like Shahrukh and Hrithik and Salman, and now’s as good a time as any. I’ll be re-posting his reviews as I dig them out, and then ending by posting a nice Index for him. Also, a good time for me to finally get around to giving Talaash the post it deserves.
Happy Birthday Yash and Roohi!!!!!
A happy post! To balance the serious one from earlier today. And also because I looooooooooooove Yash and Roohi. Most serious and concerned babies ever!
Wednesday Watching Post With a Question for YOU! Also, What Are You Watching and Reading and Thinking This Week?
Happy Wednesday! I’ve got a follow up to Monday’s question for you, and also of course we can just generally talk about what we are watching and reading and thinking.
TGIF: All Women in Anarkalis! For the Women’s March Anniversary Tomorrow
Also, all women in pink! Because I want to see if I can make joyomama’s head explode in the comments (for those who don’t know, regular commentator joyomama is a fashion historian who writes about gender color preference). Oh, and also because I’ve gotten a couple of people pushing back against the standard TGIF. So no objectification and no men and no SRK in this one!
Friday Classics: Yuva, for the Start of Election Season
Happy day before the Women’s March to the Polls! Which is a kick off and a reminder that it is all our responsibilities not just to vote, but also to run for office if possible. So, the perfect week to talk about Yuva! (yes yes, I know Aaytha Ezhuthu is better, I can’t find it, and I’ve already seen Yuva)
Baby! Big Baby! Taimur Turns One and Makes All Our First Birthday Parties Look Like Garbage
At one point, Shahrukh was rumored to be coming. But it looks like they scaled back after Shashi’s death. Which is good, because if Shahrukh had come, I would be SO JEALOUS! What does that baby have that I don’t have? Why would Shahrukh go to his party and not mine?
Starter Kit: 7 Actresses in All 3 Phases of Their Career
I put up a post about the 3 phases of an actress’ career in Hindi film (Starting Out, Established, Married), and then I also put up a post about starter films to get to know actors. And I was puzzling over how to do a post about actresses, since they really don’t have the same kind of massive career backlog as actors, and I thought “Aha! I can combine the two posts!” So that’s what I did, here are some of the top actresses divided into their 3 career eras (or 2, depending). I could have kept going on and on, but I ran out of energy, so I stopped at 7. I’m sure I will be back with more.
Silly Sunday: Ghost Stories! Late Halloween Present For Us
No Shahrukh, so sad! But I can do my belated Halloween post with ghosts! Nice ghosts, because I don’t like scary ones.
Happy Birthday Bebo! 37 Years Old and 37 Reasons I Love You!
Happy Birthday Bebo! Let’s see if I can come up with a full 37 reasons to love you! I think I probably can. (this is an updated and reposted post from last year)
Silly Sunday Speculative Post: What If Our Favorite Historical Characters Were Allowed Happy Endings? Rang De Basanti, Asoka, Mughal-E-Azam
This is semi-inspired by a conversation I had in the comments on the Rang De Basanti post with Shaily about what would need to change for Siddharth and Soha to end up together. Essentially, the whole movie except for the characters. Which got me thinking about all the Indian historical films that I really wish could have historically inaccurate happier endings.
Katching Up With Koffee: Mira and Shahid’s Debut! Sweet or Sickening?
Well, this was FASCINATING!!! I’m watching them out of order, so I just finished the Jackie and Sid episode, which was a bit tricky because there isn’t much that the audience was interested in learning about them. In comparison with Shahid and Mira, where we want to know EVERYTHING.
Least Favorite Movie of 2016, Editor’s Choice: Ki & Ka
Thank goodness I am not alone in this, on my Readers Choice post, I have already gotten a few comments voting for this as the least favorite film of the year. (Don’t forget to VOTE HERE if you haven’t already!) This is one of those “personal feeling” categories, not objective quality, so everyone has a different reason for hating it. Read on if you want to know my reasons!
