Happy Wednesday! Time to talk Bahubali 2! Or maybe something else, have you been watching anything different? Because I haven’t! 3rd watch in theaters last night.
I know I know, there is beauty in tragedy, no success without loss, blah blah blah. I don’t care, it’s SAD! I can’t take it! So before I go into the really really dark part of Bahubali 2, I am going to have to write my own imaginary happy version of it. So I can pretend there is some other fictional universe where it all worked out in the end.
Happy Teachers Day! So many sexy teacher songs in Indian film! Every film director in the world must have had a massive crush on a teacher at some point. Which means, even though I did this post last year, I can easily update it with some new songs and scenes for this year. (this is an updated and reposted post)
Do you know about the website accesbollywood.net? It’s run by a very nice woman who reviewed my book, and is a friend of a friend through moviemavengal (moviemavengal=most socially competent and adventurous person I know!). Anyway, one of the greatest things on the accessbollywood website is her updates of the Indian films available through Netflix. I am going to steal her current list, because joyomama asked what I know about each film. But please keep checking her site just in general, and specifically if you want to see a monthly update to this list! Oh, and this is today’s Hindi Film 101 post, because it will give you basically a “watching list” of films to stream, which is an important part of learning about Hindi film.
I avoided this movie because it looked scary, and I don’t like scary movies! But it really wasn’t bad, because it was less about the “scary” parts, and more about the character parts. The specifics of the danger weren’t the point, it was the way our heroine rushed headline into the danger that was the point. Because young women are very very foolish!
Welcome back! Here we are, part 7. Where thing start to get sad and scary. The last time I saw it, I was surrounded by sobbing children for basically the whole middle hour. Lot’s of “Daddy, no! Happy Sarkar 3 week! I wouldn’t be that excited, except that I like Amit Sadh so much and I am very eager to have this help his career. So, everybody, remember that Sarkar 3 is coming out and look for good reviews that mention Amit Sadh!
Happy Sunday! A week ago I put up a post asking for suggestions/votes for classic novels to be turned into fanfic. Pride and Prejudice was the first choice (thus last week’s post), but North and South was a close second. Which also inspired me to finally watch North and South. And it really is perfect for a remake! I barely have to change the plot at all, just streamline it a little.
It’s DDLJ Detailed Analysis: The Return!!! I always swore I would come back to it, and now I have! Because of Bahubali 2, which got my close analysis juices flowing. And which is also sooooooooo boring for those people who haven’t seen Bahubali 2. But who hasn’t seen DDLJ? No one! Welcome to the end of our first all Bahubali week! But not our last, I am only about an hour into the film, so these posts will be continuing for a while. Happy Cinco de Mayo! A Mexican holiday, which inspires me to find every vaguely Hispanic song in the history of Indian film. There are not many. But I was able to find a thematic 5 videos.
Happy Thursday! I was going to do two posts yesterday, but instead I did one summary post and one speculative post. And I think the speculative post is a little better written! Check it out. Well, this was agony. I saw on twitter before work that it would be coming out this morning, and then I had to wait and wait and wait until I was finally able to watch it when I got home. And now I have!
Obviously, today is Star Wars day. And also a day when I am super busy at work and can’t really focus. But I can do a “speculative” post without any problems! I get so caught up in my little imaginary worlds, that nothing can shake me. So, let’s do a mini Star Wars fest! (updated version of this post here)
I just can’t resist writing this! We’ve been all talking and agreeing in the comments that there were big character moments “missing” from Bahubali 2. And I was suddenly struck with inspiration and I just have to write my version of how those scenes would go.

Happy Wednesday! I have still only seen Bahubali 2 once and I am beginning to question all my life decisions.
I don’t know if anyone pays as much attention to my scheduling of these things as I do. But if you do, you will have noticed that I put out my early/midmorning post today, and my middle-of-the-day post, but I missed my evening post. It’s because of a bunch of reasons, which all boil down to one: my sister’s in Chennai!
Oops! I missed Anushka’s birthday yesterday! She turned 29 (Ah! I am older than Anushka!)! Wow, she’s young! Let’s see if I can come up with 29 reasons to love her. (This is an updated and reposted post from last year)
I’ve been tossing around the idea of doing a post that tries to put Bahubali 2‘s all India success into context. And then both T.J Stevens and Cerusee indicated that they would be interested, so the poor Samarth-Mukherjee family has to wait another week for me to finish them, because I want to try a brief history of “regional” films.
What an interesting movie! It’s about stuttering, but not really. It’s about growing up, but not really that either. And it’s also a little bit about Mukesh being a really nice guy. It’s all of these things combined, it’s just sort of about life.
I accurately predicted, 5 days ago, that Bahubali 2 would be #3 at the US box office at the end of the weekend. So this is one of those HA HA HA HA HA I WAS RIGHT I AM QUEEN OF EVERYTHING posts. My favorite kind! Well, no, my favorite kind is HA HA HA HA SRK WAS RIGHT HE IS KING OF EVERYTHING. Because I am a sick sick obsessed person. But this one is pretty good too!
