I thought I was done with birthdays! And then I saw #ShaheedBhagatSingh trending on twitter. So, one more post! But since this isn’t really film person, it’s just going to be a quick thing.
Chandrettan Evideya: Billed as a Comedy about Infidelity, Actually a Comedy about Reincarnation!
This was a so-so movie. Unless I am missing some deeper level. But I am pretty sure it just made its way onto my list because of Namitha Pramod, no deeper reason. It’s a fine movie, with a couple of original ideas, but that’s kind of it.
Happy Birthday Lataji!!! (How are there so many birthdays in 2 days!!!)
I just finished my three part Yash Chopra post, and then Ranbir Kapoor pops up, and now Lata! Gah! Stop being born, people! Anyway, Lata will have to be content with 16 reasons I love her for the 16 notes in the Indian scale. I’m not doing another 80+ after I just did it for Yashji.
Global Box Office Report: Such a Strange Pink Pattern!
Let’s be real, was anyone expecting any kind of a hit for Banjo? No, right? No matter how many songs you release or how hard you promote it, no one is turning out for a Ritiesh and Nargis starrer.
Happy Birthday Ranbir Kapoor!
Happy Birthday Ranbir! I’m not giving you 33 reasons, because you haven’t been in enough movies for me to come up with them! Plus, I am worn out after my 84 for Yash Chopra. But, I will give you 12! And maybe, if Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is really good, you will earn 34 for next year.
Happy Birthday Yash Chopra! Part 3, my final reasons to love you (plus Ravi’s Birthday too): 55-84
Sushmita and Mosquitos, Siddharth Roy Kapur and the Presidency, Karan and Protestors, and BAHUBALI!!!!
I thought there was news today, but then I dug into it, and yeah, there’s no news. It’s just rumors and suppositions with famous names thrown in to make me click the link. Oh well.
Happy Birthday Yash Chopra Part 2! 32 through 55!
Okay, let’s do this! Possibly nobody but me cares as much about Yashji, but come on! The man invented a whole genre of film! Founded the only studio still on firm financial ground! Created generations of stars! He deserves 84 reasons to love him on his birthday. Even if they are mostly songs. Part 1 here and Part 3 here.
Happy Birthday Yashji!!! (And Ravi) Part 1! 1-32 Reasons!
Happy Birthday Dev Anand!
I know, he’s dead. But that’s no reason not to celebrate his life! Especially because Dev himself seems like someone who was always down for a celebration. So, here are 12 random reasons to celebrate!
Monday Morning Question Post! If You Still Have Anything to Ask Me, Ask Here!
Ready to be in Awe of Corporate Stupidity? Oh, Also, Casting News!
I almost feel bad, I’ve been putting up so many posts beating the war drums against the corporate run studios, it kind of seems mean. But then, they’re corporations! They don’t have feelings.
Pink Review (SPOILERS!): Really Really Nailed the Landing!!!
I already put up my no spoilers review, this is the review with spoilers, assuming you have already seen the movie. Or can’t quite bring yourself to watch it but still kind of want to know what happens. In that case, I am here for you!
Kirti Kulhari and Sajid Nadiawala Agree With Me!
Ha! I am both artistically and financially correct! Kirti agrees with my Pink review, and Sajid agrees with my theory as to the future of Indian film studios.
Pink Review (NO SPOILERS): I Finally Saw It! It Lived Up To Expectations!
I’d heard good things about it, from people I trusted (like Anupama Chopra), so I finally gave in and watched. And you know, it was good! Just like everyone said!
India’s Oscar Entry: Once Again, a Film I Have Never Heard Of
It’s not nearly as egregious as choosing Jeans (seriously, what were they thinking?) or choosing nothing the year Pinjar and Tehzeeb and Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon came out, but it’s still got that little tinge of “wait, what?” which always comes with these announcements.
FanVid Post! Just ‘Cause!
One of the people I follow on youtube just posted a new video that I really liked, so then I dug up a few more videos I like, and voila! A post! I’m gonna get to a thousand within my first year of blogging if it kills me!
Loins of Punjab: Seriously, SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE TITLE!!!!
I just watched this movie for the 4th time, and it is still So. Good! And such a hard sell! I’ve seen it 4 times partly because people will only watch it if I sit next to them and force them to. Because the title alone really isn’t enough to sell it.
News About Upcoming Movies: Padmavati, Kaali Gaandi, Dabba Gul, Dangal
Not big news, really. Okay, a couple of these things might be big news. But mostly it is just confirmation that things are moving along in the direction we already thought they were headed.
Badshah and Aunties, Shahrukh and Wet Shirts, and Other Things That Make Me Happy
Somehow, it is both rainy and overcast, and also 90 degrees out today. And Banjo isn’t playing anywhere near me, so I don’t get to see a new movie tonight. And generally life is bleak and depressing. So, here is a random collection of recent news items that make me happy. Feel free to bookmark this post for the next time you feel down!
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Trailer! No New Information!
The full Ae Dil Hai Mushkil trailer is out! And it’s basically the same as the two song teasers we already saw! No big surprises.
Happy Birthday Kumar Sanu!!!
Happy Birthday Kumar Sanu! I knew the name and was kind of not that excited, but then I looked at your playlist! You sang EVERYTHING!!!! Totally deserve a birthday post! I’ll go with 16 reasons to love you, for the Indian scale (it is 16, right?).
Positive: Not the Greatest Movie
As I have mentioned already, I just re-activated my Netflix discs and immediately requested every Malayalam film they have available. Which means I am going to end up with some stinkers. This one wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t very good, or interesting. But not quite bad enough that I could justify stopping in the middle (it takes a lot for me to stop in the middle of a movie).
Message for American Readers: Don’t Forget to Register to Vote!
If I could find that “Vote” song from Classmates on youtube, I would post it for this message. Don’t forget to Vote! More importantly, don’t forget to register!!! The election is weeks away, but the registration deadline in your state may be coming up soon. This link will give you information for your state.
International Day of Peace Post: One Day Late
Totally missed this holiday! And it’s almost as much fun to find songs for as International day of Dance! I think I’m going to just lean hard into the Shanti theme to start with, maybe I’ll try to do something more meaningful next year. Also, maybe next year I will remember on the actual day.
