Rithu: Is It Wrong That I Sympathize With the Wrong People?

What an interesting movie!  I read that it is supposed to be the start of the new age films, but it actually reminded me a lot more of Aalkkoottathil Thaniye.  And other films I’ve seen from that classic 90s/late 80s era.

Hollywood Gossip So Big I am Actually Reporting it!!!!!

I really don’t care most of the time about what happens in the American gossip news.  I mean, after getting used to the crazy rumors that fly around in the Indian film industry, all the American gossip just seems kind of bland.  But there are two stories today that are so big, I actually care about them!!!

Happy Birthday Mahesh Bhatt! King of the A++ Movie and the C Movie, but Never B!

Happy Birthday Mahesh!  68 years old today!  And been directing films for the past 42 of those years.  And half your movies are searingly intimate and real and incredibly high quality.  And half of them are very low quality.  What an interesting balance!  Anyway, here’s my traditional 12 reasons I love you!

Oozham Review (SPOILERS!!!): Some Nice Bits, But Not a Lot of Them

I already put up my non-spoiler quick little review.  This is the bigger one with lots of plot details.  I won’t be doing the full summary, like I do sometimes, but I will be revealing all the plot high points.  So if you are kind of curious about this movie, but not curious enough to spend the money and time going to a theater, read this! Normally I try to encourage people to see the movie anyway, but in this case, I can sincerely say, “don’t bother, just read this.”

Swara Bhaskar About Smita Patil and Katrina Kaif

Smita and Shabanaji were long rumored to be professional rivals, kind of a Juhi-Madhuri thing.  No personal component, I never heard about them fighting over the same man or anything like that.  But some semi-nasty remarks passed in the press.  And now, the feud continues, long after death!  I am posting about Smitaji on Shabana’s birthday.

Watch a Movie with me Tomorrow!

I’m doing another live twitter watchalong!  Just like I did for Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham a few months back (click here to see how that went)!  This time, Kal Ho Na Ho!  Which is available in American Netflix, as well as most streaming services.  It will be at 10am Chicago time tomorrow, which is 8:30pm on Sunday the 18th India time, 1am Australia time (sorry Australia people), 11am New York time, and 8am California time.  Join in by searching for the hashtags #KHNH (for Kal Ho Na Ho) or #DCIB (for my book, Don’t Call it Bollywood, which this is nominally promoting.  And which you should all read!  It’s really good!).

Let’s Look at Some Romances of Consumerism!

Another ad post!  I just keep finding awesome ones!  Also, I realized I still hadn’t posted the epic Ponds Saif and Priyanka series, which rivals the Anthony Stewart Head (yes, from Buffy) Taster’s Choice ads from England in its romantic scope.

Innathe Chintha Vishayam: A Pleasant Unambitious and Quietly Radical Film

I gave in!  I re-upped my Netflix DVD subscription!  Just because they have 2 dozen Malayalam films listed, and I am so sick of dropping subtitle files onto youtube videos, or waiting for international shipments, or paying $2.99 for googleplay videos, or squinting at eithusan on my laptop screen.  Anyway, now I am cranking through all the random films Netflix happens to have available.  Like this one!
