First, just getting it out of the way, I did NOT see Jagga Jasoos last night. Instead I went to see an actual good movie, Thondimuthlum Driksakshiyum (podcast going up soon, review up for Monday Malayalam). But I will be seeing it first possible show today! And taking my laptop so I can write the review for you guys from the food court at the mall and have it up ASAP.
Another song! They are coming fast and furious now, it’s getting closer and closer! Oh geez, I have to figure out new angles for my Shahrukh Week, don’t I? Veer-Zaara for Shahrukh as a Punjabi? A third post on how ridiculous it is that Shahrukh didn’t end up with Anushka in Jab Tak? I can talk about that forever!
Shahrukh is not being very considerate to me! I have this bonkers week (my family is staying about an hour and a half outside of the city, so I am commuting back and forth and they are keeping me up all night with family stuff and then I have to drive drive drive to work the next day), and I get up this morning thinking maybe I will have a little time to, like, brush my hair, but no! Shahrukh has just posted a 5 minute video that I have to watch instead. Oh, and also Siddharth has a trailer, but it’s not as long and I don’t have to watch as closely. And neither of them used subtitles, because they hate me because I am disgusting and live in a car and never wash my hair.
I wasn’t going to bother with a post about this, but we have already talked SO MUCH in the comments about how much we hate it, I thought I might as well give us one central place to discuss the new stupid Yash Raj promotional strategy.
Well, this was interesting! For the first time ever, I got to experience the twitter madness of waiting for a song trailer to come out. Because usually the time zones/my interest level doesn’t allow for it. And I have to say, twitter is a cesspool of stupidity and misinformation! Who knew? Anyway, I am glad I usually stay off of it. Although this was kind of fun to experience once.
Yaaaay, another cute trailer! Which basically gives away the entire plot! But it’s a good plot, so I’m fine with that. Really, most of the time I think if you don’t want to see a movie once you know the plot, then it’s a baaaaaaad movie. We should enjoy films for more than just the plot, there are the characters and the dialogue and everything else. And this film is definitely going to be about the characters. (oh, and it was posted with subtitles right from the start, so I think this is a clear sign that Shahrukh is reading my blog and loves me)
Well, Karan Johar is tweeting about it, so that means it must be news. Fine! I will talk about the new Jagga Jasoos trailer! And then as a reward for my good behavior, I will talk about the trailers I actually like.
I don’t have a super lot to say about these trailers, but I am really hoping that you do! Because I need to learn more about these movies and decide if it is worth it to go see them in theaters. Because, you know, Tamil/Telugu movie tickets are big bucks!
I know this is something we have all been concerned about, R. Madhavan’s ever developing style of attractiveness. And, almost as important, the ever developing relationship between Hindi and non-Hindi films in India.
Happy day before Tubelight! I think I have picked my optimal showtime. Later show, but closer theater, so I can still be home at a reasonable hour. Same theater where I saw Bahubali opening night, Sultan for the second time, and Fan opening night. You will notice from that list that this theater only plays the biggest releases. Which allows me to make some box office predictions! Oh, and I also needed to do a post because Salman just released a video of Epic Cuteness.
No subtitles though. Which, following my theory from yesterday, means that Shahrukh used to love me and was telling me through subtitling his videos. But now no longer loves me and is breaking up with me through NOT subtitling his videos. WHY SHAHRUKH???? WHY???? I’ll change for you! I’ll do whatever you ask! Just take me back!
Well, that’s not really fair, I don’t know yet if they are better films because these films haven’t come out. But I can suspect they are better films, because the films they remind me of were really really good, and it showed even in the trailer.
Well, apparently the promotion train is moving at an express pace, and I will need to put up one of these posts every day for the next month and a half (last one here). I guess I am okay with that. Anyway, New Teaser! More importantly, Subtitles!!! Most importantly, Shahrukh loves me and wants me to be happy and is showing it through subtitles on his trailers! I should take this as a sign of his undying devotion to me and go be a Gaurav outside Mannat, right?
Really quick post, just so we can all discuss. And so those of you who need this information ASAP can get it. New JHMS teaser! I am still cautiously optimistic. Although slightly less so than I was after the last two teasers.
I was putting this off and putting this off, hoping subtitles would be added so I could do a comprehensive discussion, not just a sort of discussion. But, no luck! So I will put up this kind of placeholder post, and all you lucky people who know Hindi can discuss it in depth, and the rest of us will just leap in once someone at Red Chillies gets around to hitting the magical “English Subs” button on their youtube account.
Boy, it’s been awhile since I did a real news round-up, isn’t it? Partly because the releases have been going boom-boom-boom for the past few months, so with my weekly southern reviews, and new movie news, and then Bahubali, there just hasn’t been time. But this week it’s kind of slow, I don’t have another review ready yet, might as well do a quick news round-up.
The Ramadan promo parade continues! Tubelight is taking it easy, Salman just tweeting set photos, Shahrukh is doing the same with Jab Harry Met Sejal (blech, still hate the title). Leaving the field clear for the hardcore promos of first looks and teaser trailers for other movies.
I take one day off twitter, and everything happens! It’s not fair! Shahrukh’s movie has a title, and a bunch of new posters, new Tubelight song is up which changes the plot, and Jagga Jasoos…..well, that one doesn’t really change anything, but it sure perplexes me!
This is just the most mystifying trailer! Usually I like to have several trailers or news items to talk about at once, but I can’t wait on this one, because I need to crowdsource understanding it. WHAT IS HAPPENING????
Ramadan! ‘Tis the season for film promotions! Because there’s nothing actually coming out (except Raabta), so all we can do is get excited for the things that will be releasing later.
This is thanks to two commentators, Filmilibrarian who reminded me about Victoria & Abdul, and Niki who sent me the Spyder teaser seconds after it dropped. Oh, and then Salman Khan who tweeted the new Tubelight song this morning.
Sorry sorry, it was out a few days ago and I missed it. Blame Salman, not me! I follow him on twitter and everything, and this was not mentioned! At least, not mentioned enough, I was able to miss it. Salman! You’ve got to tweet this things like a dozen times to make sure they get noticed!
I don’t pay much attention to the rumors of who is dating who and what film maybe possibly might be signed by what actor. But the hardcore industrial stuff, that I find FASCINATING! And there were two stories that came out recently that I find really interesting.
Don’t worry, Farida Jalal is fine. So is Waheedaji. No, prepare yourself for a shock, Reema Lagoo has passed away. Very suddenly of heart attack, at age 59.
I was thinking about doing a kind of combined post with some of the other new songs releases I may have missed. But, firstly, I don’t know that there are that many big new song releases, everything is entering the Ramadan duldrums right now. And anyway, Salman is such big news that he doesn’t need anything else.
