I know a lot of us are reading this (and if you aren’t reading it, you should! It’s great). So I wanted to put up a couple of posts for us to discuss the details. And, if for some reason you don’t have the time or access to read it yourself, I thought I should try to put up some interesting details for you to learn. And since it is how I always think of things, I have tied them to Karan’s different films. (part 1 here)
I know a lot of my readers are reading this, and I wanted a place for us all to discuss. I also know a lot of my readers don’t want to bother but might want a preview of what it says. And I think I have found a way to satisfy both of you! Without feeling like I am breaking some kind of plagiarism rule or skipping important parts.
March is gonna be a GOOD MONTH!!!! Much better than February, where we have that Pakistani rom-com that looks pretty great, and Rangoon, which I am still not very interested in.
So glad that Badrinath Ki Dulhania is being made! And that the first trailer makes it seem like it will be yet another riff on DDLJ, but with a different focus from Humpty Sharma.
Karan just posted a new column on NDTV. He was supposed to be a columnist for them, right? But after 2-3 postings last year, it kind of died out. And now we get another, clearly inspired by the Sanjay Leela Bhansali incident.
Have I mentioned before that the India-America time difference is THE WORST THING IN THE WORLD? It’s just come up again, because Karan Johar tweeted the first poster and first teaser for Badrinath Ki Dulhania about 20 minutes after I went to bed. EVIL!
The final (probably) Raees song has just been released. And it is the Mika Singh song that is apparently required in every hit film now (Mika or Yo Yo or Badshah). Tough and a little Bhangra mixed with hip-hop sounding. Less hip-hop in this case, more 80s style.
I already put up 3 very detailed posts discussing and reviewing the entire 23 episode series that rocketed Mahira Khan to international fame. But those were really for people who had already seen the show and wanted an in depth discussion. Or were never planning to see the show, but still wanted to know exactly what happened. But what if all you care about is getting a quick sense of what made Mahira Khan so appealing to the Raees producers that they just had to cast her in this role? Then, this is the post for you!
DVDs are out, yaaaaay! And I was able to watch the deleted scenes! And now I can report back on them, so you don’t have to go out and buy your own DVD.
UPDATE: And I forced my friend who understands Hindi to watch and give me better translations too!!!!
So many Ks!!!! No wonder Karan thinks they are “lucky”. Or used to I guess, since ADHM didn’t have any. Unless you count Ranbir. And Fawad. Okay, I am losing the point! The point is, Karan plus 2 Kapoors and one Kapoor Khan.
None of the statements in the headline are true! Well, they are sort of true. Like, 60-70% true, depending.
My copy of An Unsuitable Boy is sloooooowly making it’s way to me from New York, but in the meantime, the Indian press is keeping me up to date on the most interesting excerpts. This time, one about Kareena.

NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! New An Unsuitable Boy quotes leaked, confirming that Karan and Kajol are officially over!!!!!! My heart is BROKEN!!!!
Happy Lohri! Which is a Winter Solstice holiday in the Punjab, usually celebrated with a big bonfire! There are of course plenty of Lohri specific songs in Indian films, but they would be super hard to track down, plus I wouldn’t like all of them!
Instead, to celebrate this Punjabi holiday, I am just going to post my all time favorite Bhangra/Punjabi songs, counting down from number 5 to number 1. There are a lot of them, because there are a lot of Punjabi refugees who ended up in the Bombay film industry. Because they needed jobs, and also Punjabis are HOTT. Badshah had a baby! Not much more to say besides that, but I felt you all should know. And I suppose this give me as much a reason as any to post some possible lullabies her father might sing her.
This was an interesting episode! Mostly because of the challenge it posed to Karan, how is he going to get the audience interested in these two people that we just don’t really care about that much? It’s the same problem he had with Parineeti and Aditya Roy Kapoor, but I think he handled it better this time.
Okay, could I fly to India on January 15th, buy An Unsuitable Boy in the airport, and then fly home immediately? That would be a reasonable expense, right? It’s not supposed to come out in America until March last I saw, and I am going to DIE! Especially now that excerpts have started being printed. And they are SO GOOD.
Well, this is not what I was hoping for from a Bhardwaj movie! He is stylish, sure, but it is style that overlays real hardcore traditional messy Indian emotions. And Indian settings, gritty villages and remote farms. This thing though, at least based on the first trailer, is all style over substance. Luhrmann after Strictly Ballroom.
I just got a panicked text from a friend “Om Puri died?!?!?” And then another text with every emoticon available. Which is kind of how I feel. Confused, sad, angry, unsure. I liked a lot of Om Puri’s characters, and he was a good actor. But his personal life was confusing and unpleasant in a way that kind of affected his characters for me.
Yay, the Raees love song! I could do with a little more guyliner, but otherwise it’s pretty great! There’s even a wet white shirt scene, which adds a touch of class to any pictuarization.
Way back when I woke up this morning, I saw the new Raees poster. And then I didn’t exactly forget about it (how could I? It’s my new computer wallpaper!), but I forgot to do a blog post on it. Until now!
Kajol has signed another movie! And one that no one expected from her. I am very very curious how it will turn out.
I did it! I downloaded the Salman App so I could see what it was like! And it’s interesting. I kind of wish the other stars would do something similar, just to make life easy.
Why do they keep releasing songs and trailers at 11am India time? I need my sleep! Last night I decided that it was more important to be awake today for family events round 2 than to stay up until Karan tweeted the new OK Jaanu song.
