Well, Kaalakaandi is not coming out in America. Which means I have yet another empty weekend. Empty Friday night, and empty Saturday since I’m not rushing around to write a review. Since you aren’t getting reviews, I thought I might as well catch you up on the other things I have been doing.
I debated a lot with this one, and finally decided to just be honest. It’s “least favorite film”, not an objective judgement, just what you didn’t like. Tiger Zinda Hai wasn’t the worst movie of the year, or even the most disappointing, but it was the one that was least to my particular taste.
Happy Lohri! Which is a Winter Solstice holiday in the Punjab, usually celebrated with a big bonfire! There are of course plenty of Lohri specific songs in Indian films, but they would be super hard to track down, plus I wouldn’t like all of them! Instead, to celebrate this Punjabi holiday, I am just going to post my all time favorite Bhangra/Punjabi songs, counting down from number 5 to number 1. There are a lot of them, because there are a lot of Punjabi refugees who ended up in the Bombay film industry. Because they needed jobs, and also Punjabis are HOTT.

I haven’t done one of these in a while, and Shahrukh keeps tweeting his Dubai ads like he is just begging me to mention them, so I might as well. Also, instead of seeing a new movie tonight I went to look at dogs again, so no new movie review. But dog photo at the end of the post!

I’ve been kind of thinking about writing about this movie, ever since the Padmavat thing started, and now it seems like the write time with Hrithik’s birthday this week and all. So here I go!
More news! Going back to my post this morning, it really feels like Padmavat has been holding us hostage for the past 2 months. And now, suddenly freed, there is all kinds of news popping up all over, interesting news.
Another youtube video! I am on a roll. You can ignore it if you want, but I am trying to get back in the youtube groove, see if it will do me any good for blog views (so far, better than podcasts, but still not great).
Well, it has been officially confirmed for like 24 hours now that Padmavat is now releasing Republic Day, meaning a clash with Padman. And, like every other business decision related to this movie, I think this is idiotic and a sign that no one involved has a lick of common sense and is running their movie into the ground. And the rest of the Hindi film industry along with it.
“Mendhi Laga Ka Rakna” continues!!!! But I think I will be finishing it next week. So sad. Then it’s all drama and angst and Anupam Kher straight through to the end. (full index of DDLJ coverage here)
Even more news! Announcements of upcoming movies primarily. Which kind of makes sense, we are entering the spring doldrums, so now is the time to start your promotion campaign while nothing exciting is hitting theaters.
I don’t know what it was, maybe it was just the holidays or maybe it was Padmavat/Padmavati driving everything else away, but the past month or so it has felt like there is no “actual” news. Like, no one is officially announcing anything, no one is bothering to do even the littlest bit of investigation to find out about a fact, it’s all just reporting of people having opinions. But no more! A new era has dawned and there is SO MUCH actual news today!
Happy Birthday Hrithik! As a gift to you for your 44th, I will give you your very own list of DCIB reviews. Which is not that many. But then on the other hand, you are kind of picky and don’t make that many films, do you?
Happy Wednesday! Halfway through the week, I stayed up way too late watching movies with a friend last night, but tonight I might maybe be able to go home and go to bed at a regular hour. And then be up too late again on tomorrow, possibly. Oh well, such is life.

It’s a Sidharth blow out!!!!!!!! Best film yesterday, and my favorite film today. Not a coincidence exactly, less about Sidharth choosing good movies/good movies choosing him, and more about the level of star who is still allowed to experiment and risk failure.
Well, Tiger has begun to drop off significantly. Which means now is the week when we can start comparing it with other overseas hits and see how good it really did, removed from all the hysteria of the “finally a big box office hit in 2017!” coverage.
Well, here is a shocker, after winning the worst actor award last year, Sidharth landed in the best Hindi movie (I think) of 2017. Not that he has become a better actor, he is just way way better cast this year than last year.
I did a long post about Nadia Wadia/Fearless Nadia/Mary Ann Evans several months back, thought I should repost it in honor of her birthday today.
This isn’t “news” as such, this is just cute stuff people have tweeted or re-tweeted. Mostly Amitabh, who seems to have gone a little baby mad the past few days.
I finally got around to making a video. Quality is so-so, I was in a hurry to finish before I had to run out the door for work, but it’s there. It’s related to the “Surprisingly Good Film of 2017” awards post, but a little different.
Happy Monday! Time to distract me as I start a full week of work for the first time in a month. On the tragedy!!!! Working 5 full days, without any time off for being super sick, or the holidays. How will I possibly go on?
This was a really close one, between Sulu/Vidya Balan in Tumhari Sulu and Dev/Akshaye Khanna in Ittefaq. Vidya won by just a little bit, but mostly because she was the title cahrater and got a little more time onscreen.
