In case you missed it, the contest is, whoever makes the most comments within a given week, “wins”, and I mail them a Christmas card! You can only win once, so if the busiest commentator of the week has previously won, I will move down to the next one on the list.
This came up from a discussion I had in the comments back on Monday with the commentator “Sal” about Kunal Kapoor. And I thought “Heck, I bet I can get another silly Friday post out of this! And one that will leave you lots to discuss and consider over the weekend!” Because I KNOW you are not all going to agree with me on all of these.

I want to spend another day listening to lament songs and distracting myself by doing work-work, like reconciling the office bank statement. But Shahrukh is dragging me out of it. I can’t NOT post about a new Dear Zindagi trailer.
Right after I put up my post about how everyone finds spiritual sustenance in different places, I got an urgent message from a friend saying she needed photos of sexy Indian men IMMEDIATELY! Which kind of proves my point. And also suggested another post idea.
I’m mourning today, like can’t stop crying, can’t find anything good in the world mourning. I was trying to think of the last time I felt like this, I think it was when my grandmother was dying, my grandfather had just died, my father was worried about losing his job, and my mother was recovering from major surgery (yes these things all happened at the same time). That was years ago, and the small piece of comfort I have today is that at least I have something that does bring me spiritual comfort, which I didn’t have then.
I don’t know why praying feels like it will make a difference at this point, whatever happened has already happened, we are just finding out about it now. But there is nothing else to do, so we might as well.
Even if you have to stand in line, even if it makes you miss a shift at work, even if you are scared of protestors or campaigners outside the polling line, DO IT!!! Consistently, polling shows that the majority of people in America don’t agree with the politicians, but the politicians don’t care, because the majority of people don’t vote. If you want America to start reflecting the concerns of people of color, young people, and everyone else who doesn’t feel heard, we need to show that we will show up and help elect people. Or not elect them. If you don’t choose “the better of two bad options”, then the worse of the two bad options will keep winning. Part 4! I am just zipping along! Sort of! Not really! But to be fair, I am also doing really short posts. I could probably have knocked this whole thing out in 4, if I did longer lengths. But then I would get all tired and resentful and wouldn’t have the energy to post about anything else. So, part 4, still not up to Interval! (part 1 here, part 2 here, part 3 here)
Yay, second weekend box office is available! And that global-local/multiplex-singlescreen divide is popping up, just as anticipated. Really, these films are not going to clash, besides me, there just aren’t that many people who would be interested in both.
I checked twitter this morning, and was rewarded with wonderful news! And yet another sign that Shahrukh really does care about me!
Internet Piracy for the win!!!! Stupid Hotstar.com, the legal website, won’t accept payment from outside India, even using a credit card. So I hunted and googled and got ten minutes into one video that was pulled literally as I was watching it, and finally a found a deep dark place that had a high quality version available which lasted long enough for me to see the whole show.
I announced a couple of days ago that I was going to try a give away, based on who made the most comments in a given week, over the next 9 weeks. This is the first week, I’m excited, let’s see how this works!!!
One news item that calls back to a past stand that the industry took in politics, and one item is a stand taken today. Really interesting to think about how things change and how they stay the same.
I saw ADHM for the second time last night and, just as I suspected, I enjoyed it much more on a second watch, when I knew what was going to happen and I could focus on just appreciating how they built it up. And this also means I have a much clearer memory of the details, and can come back to my full summary in multiple parts, all renewed and refreshed!
Just like Happy New Year and “Sharaabi” or Dilwale and “Premika”, Karan Johar is keeping the buzz going and celebrating a successful first week of ADHM by releasing another song. But he must be sitting on another song video, because this is not the one I was waiting for!
It’s Friday, I had a long week (that Wednesday Cubs game!!!), so my friend and I just spent two hours working on a very very silly personal challenge together. An attempt to answer the question “What flavor/food best encapsulates the feeling of certain movie star’s sexiness?” I did the men and she did the women. (also, she’s a really cool Burlesque dancer under the name “Rosemary Maybe“, just in case she ever comes to your town, you should check her out!)
Tabu is 45 today! Not the biggest star, at least not any more, but one I am inordinately fond of. So, 14 reasons I love her, for the age she was when she made her first film.
I saw the existing trailer on the big screen last night before Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (second watch, many new thoughts!). And seeing it on the big screen, not on my little youtube window, one thing became clear: I really don’t like this movie.
I’m sleepy, still haven’t recovered from last night (CUBS WIN!!!) and really can’t face writing another full post. So instead, I am going to recommend other things for you to read while I sleep.
Well, Shahrukh’s birthday is over, which means it’s time for me to start revving up for Christmas. I loooooooooooove Christmas. In my Christmas post last year, I said I had 3 Christmas trees. For my one room studio apartment. Well, I went shopping after that, and now I have 8 Christmas trees. And that’s in addition to my Christmas village and my string of 2 foot long light up candy canes. And I several years ago, I found a special way of combining my Christmas and Indian love.
You know, I saw a thing somewhere else that said Gauri and Suhana were hosting it, which sounded really cute, like little Suhana and her Mom spending time together planning the party, and then telling Shahrukh the party came from both of them. But now the pictures are coming out, and I think it might be slightly different. But still cute!
