This is “sex week”, and this movie fits the theme because it is so extremely NOT about sex. In a good way. It’s a movie about how sex is a fact of life, but it is also something you can just choose not to have in your life and that is okay too. I mean, that’s not officially what it is about, officially it is about rape and societal judgement, but it’s also about a rape survivor going on to have a totally chaste romance. Consider that your “trigger warning”, but it’s also a pretty well-known plot twist to this film, so it’s not a spoiler exactly. Speaking of spoils, this is a very 2000s movie so it won’t be for all of you. If you aren’t planning to watch it, please spoil yourself! The plot is insane!!!

I can only take credit for kind of pulling all of this together, not for the ideas, that is all BollywoodNewbie/Alisa and HolyMuffinSallie. But it is so good, I feel the need to edit it together and expand and put it up on the blog.
Continue readingHindi Film 101: The Job of a Director, Hollywood versus India
I just reviewed Junglee, one of the few Indian movies directed by an American which I can still legitimately call “Indian”. And in that review, I started talking about what is and is not universal in the job of a director, and then I realized I really should make this a 101.
Continue readingThings We Illogically Believe in: From Amitabh’s Hair to Hrithik’s Abs
I was talking to Popka Superstar and realized there were all kinds of things that I cling to, even though logic tells me they can’t possibly be true. But if I believe hard enough I will MAKE them to be true!!!!!
Continue reading2010s Award: Hottest Old Man of the Decade, Shahrukh or Hrithik or Anil?
You know who’s hot? Men who act their age. You know what’s NOT hot? Men who dye their hair and wear cool clothes and jump around like they are half their age. But, in the 2010s, who were the HOTTEST old men?

I have seen sooooooooooooooo many Christmas movies in the last few days. And now I really want to spend Christmas in a small cheap to film in town in Canada. It’s not Christmas if I’m not seeing a bunch of random Canadian extras around an aging former family sitcom star in a Christmas sweater! Anyway, this goodness needs to break into the Indian market, and I am here with 5 separate plot ideas and suggested casting.

Having another lazy night, eating popcorn and watching BBC mysteries while the dog sleeps. It’s one of those days where it is so cold outside that once you get inside, your body goes into hibernation mode. Anyway, this means it is a good time for me to do a nice cosy little post, the ideas we have crowdsourced for the Netflix family series that Shahrukh should make in order to have a nice work-life balance while still keeping his face in front of the world in a non-controversial way.

I absolutely love this movie and I can’t believe it isn’t talked about more. There’s like 5 classic Madhuri dance numbers, Naseeruddin Shah plays a double role, and Aruna Irani is a witch. How is this not the most popular Madhuri movie ever????
Continue readingMonday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me as I Work from My Sister’s House?
First time I have tried this, the cheap plane tickets meant my flight isn’t until this evening, so it just kind of makes sense to work from her house. But I don’t know, working from somewhere else? Trying to focus on work stuff like family is right there? It all seems difficult.

I really liked this movie. And you should watch it without SPOILERS, if you can (Kirre Ranin! This means YOU!), read this other review instead. But if you really really can’t see it and want to know what happens, you can read this. Honestly, it’s such a slow happy family movie, it’s more about the experience than the details, I can’t “spoil” it
