I don’t know why we were/are all so obsessed with this. What did we think was going to happen? The photos would release and they would be, like, nude or in a slap fight or something?
I was going to make this a “Hindi Film 101” and then I thought “no, I don’t want to think that much or go so far in depth, I’ll just make this fun”. So, FUN!!! Be ready for that!
This is inspired largely by the first two episodes of this season of Koffee with Karan, both of which put together two stars (Deepika and Alia and Ranveer and Akshay) who never co-starred together and aren’t known as best friends, and yet had surprising connections.
Here’s a random review! Shahrukh’s birthday/Diwali is not a good time to also have a series of work disasters. So I am writing a review of an interesting movie that I watched ages ago and I know other people are really eager to discuss.
I love Koffee season. And this was another great episode, I didn’t think Ranveer and Akshay would work well (and there were a few draggy parts), but they turned out to have great chemistry!
I love you us.hotstar.com!!!!!! I think I may have been able to watch this even before the India broadcast? Anyway, get a hotstar subscription, all you people reading this! It’s worth it!
Moviemavengal confessed her love for the “fake marriage” romance trope, and it’s one I like quite a bit as well. And it’s pretty rare in Indian film, replaced by “real arranged marriage becomes love” which isn’t quite the same thing. So I shall write a few script suggestions just in case anyone needs any! (oh, and if you want to see one that already exists, check out Love By Square Foot on Netflix)
No big massive full summary coming for Befikre! Partly because Dear Zindagi exhausted me, partly because my sense is that my commentators aren’t as interested in a massive discussion of this movie, as they are of other movies. But mostly because I don’t think it is analyzable, to take it apart would be to destroy it.
I put up this video as part of my Friendship Day post, and it got no comments, which makes me think either no one watched it, or it isn’t as remarkable as it feels to me. And I am going slowly insane trying to figure out which it is. Please! Watch and comment and tell me I’m not crazy!

Happy Father’s Day! This is a repost from last year, but it is very long and worth rereading. And also very very good, I forgot how good this one was! There’s Rana and Shahrukh fighting in wet shirts, Ranbir and Sonakshi falling in love, Varun Dhawan and a baby, all kinds of good things. Also, it’s a Father’s Day Multiverse and all the stories are connected. And anyway, I am spending 6 hours at church today (service plus organizing coffee hour plus meeting), so I earned a rerun.
My boss is gone today which means I can look at photos on my computer without fear of being observed and judged. Well, my co-workers might judge me, but whatever, I don’t care what they think. And I was just talking with Meenakshy about who looks good in a Dhoti, so why not do a Dhoti post? Similar too but different from my previous Lungi post. (for the purposes of this post, “Dhoti” means any single cloth that is used as a wrap skirt by an Indian man)
Happy Sunday! I wrote soooooooooooooooo much yesterday, and like good high quality stuff, reviews of Bhavesh Joshi and Veere Di Wedding. So this morning, I get to write short total trash, in a nice change of pace. Let’s pretend the world is a bad romance novel of the Judith Kranz type and rewrite reality!
I already did a very long detailed take down of Bharat Ane Nenu this morning, including an overview of the Indian Constitution and it’s deeper social meaning, I’m exhausted, and I know at least one of you also watches both B99 and Indian film, so I am going to indulge myself with a fun easy recasting post. Plus, the news just broke that B99 was canceled, so the time is ripe for an Indian spin off.
Those noble souls with cell phone cameras and twitter accounts, they are the real heroes! Making us feel like we are there partying with everyone else. Only, less hot and drunk and vaguely tired.
More photos! And Ranveer finally makes an appearance. Question, how horrible is it for Dips to be in America at the Met Gala while her boyfriend’s cousin is getting married? Is that like an acceptable thing for a girlfriend to do, pick a work event over a family wedding? If the wedding is just your boyfriend’s cousin?
I already put up a MASSIVE Anushka post and I didn’t want it to be too super super long, so I pulled this one story out. Also, this is the story I need the most help with because I can’t figure out how to end it.
Once again, you did the work for me! At least partially. For Anushka’s birthday, we were talking about who we wanted to see her with in her next movies, and that started me out with thinking about what those movies would be like.
I’m not going to repost the whole 3 part Padmavat summary review, that would be INSANE. Instead I am going to repost the much shorter no spoilers review.
