Global figures are out for Baar Baar! And Bollywoodhungama says that they are “dismal”, but I’m not seeing it? But maybe that’s just because I am missing some extra information, like how big was the budget and how much were the distribution rights sold for. Oh, and also a new weird photo of Aamir
Is that a saying in India? “Hit over the head”? It’s something my mother says a lot, “he needed to be hit over the head before he started to….”. Like, it takes getting frostbite on your ears to learn that you should wear a hat when it’s cold out. Or, getting an F before you learn to study before a test. Which is what happens to our hero here, he has to get a literal blow to the head before he starts learning.
Maybe this has happened before and I just haven’t noticed it, but it feels unusual to me, the speed and excitement over creating fanvids the minute the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil song came out!
My first Questions post! Which, okay, is mostly because I am trying to put up extra posts so I can get to a thousand before my first year of blogging is over. But also because I think it might be a fun way to start the week!
I thought we should start the week out on a light note, so two nice light stories.

This is sort of an odd post to make. Obviously, as an American, I have a very complex and personal and emotional relationship to 9/11. For one thing, it’s also my Grandpa’s birthday (95 today!). But I want to set aside the American part of it for a post, and take a quick look at how Indian film has struggled with the changes 9/11 brought on the world. (obviously, all kinds of trigger warnings and I understand if no one wants to read this post, but I felt like I should make it)
Don’t get to excited, she’s not doing a show or anything. Just other stuff to help promote Shivaay. But still, Kajol!!! In the same country as me!!!
Really, American ads suuuuuuuuuck in comparison! Not only do we not get the big name stars, we don’t get the fun gimmicks and interesting stories either.
This movie is about a lot of different things, but what leaps out at me is they way it handled the hero’s childhood adoption into an American family. It managed the difficult task of avoiding any easy answers, acknowledging the challenges of the situation without blaming anyone for them.
If you are really really desperate, I have one for you! Sort of!
Boy, it’s been awhile since we had a nice glitzy release, right? With lots of pretty clothes and songs and a wedding somewhere in there? Well, if that’s what you’ve been waiting for, here it is!
I may have mentioned this a few dozen times before, but Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are my all time favorite composers. They have been since I first heard the Lakshya album when I was 19. And they have a new album out!!!! Mirzya full songs are available on Saavn, which presumably means they are available on itunes, spotify, and all the other websites the kids these days use.
Why is this not bigger news? Out of all the people I follow on twitter, only industry analyst/journalist Taran Adarsh tweeted it. And it only had like 20 thousand views on youtube when I last watched it. Maybe the content is making Adi look for a slower roll-out?

Another Mahesh Babu movie! An odd one, half comedy and half cop thriller. And sometimes comedy and cop thriller all mixed up together.
A few months back, we did a twitter watch along for K3G, which was super fun! There were a couple of newbies who we got to introduce to the film, and some old hands who were super excited to share their favorite parts. (you can get a sense of what it was like here)
So, we’re now organizing another one! September 18th, 11am EDT. Kal Ho Na Ho this time (following the theory that it is available on Netflix and other streaming services, and pretty newbie friendly!).

49 years old today! Making him the middle child of the old school 90s stars. Younger than the Khan “triplets”, but older than Ajay. Anyway, Akshay is so big, he definitely deserves a full list of reasons, one for every year. And he is so old, that I am going to have to split those reasons in half! It’s Asha Bhosle’s Birthday!!!! How Wonderful! 83 years old today! And you want to know something interesting? It’s also Patsy Cline’s birthday! Another female singer who had a lot of life and a lot of love and an amazing voice.
These two things have nothing in common, don’t even try to find a connection. But moviemavengal tweeted me about Dulquer’s gift to his Dad, and another commentator pointed out that it was Mammootty’s birthday today and now I feel bad for not acknowledging it at all. Although I did happen to post my Jagratha review today, so that’s cool!
