50 years old today! Making him the middle child of the old school 90s stars. Younger than the Khan “triplets”, but older than Ajay. Anyway, Akshay is so big, he definitely deserves a full list of reasons, one for every year. And he is so old, that I am going to have to split those reasons in half! Well, I’ve been putting this off, because I didn’t have much to say. And also because a got a nice string of abuse on my no-spoilers review. Which is why I am a little mad at this movie. Because it’s leaving me open for abuse! Being so political that I can’t avoid commenting on the politics, even though I want to run a nice film analysis blog that only deals with social issues in generalities, not specifics. And clearly it is political, because there are angry people looking for me to say bad things about it. Oh well, I’ll spoil it for you all anyway, and maybe someone will leave a nice comment on this one.
Well, that was an interesting movie going experience! One half a charming unusual love story, one half a massive Modi propaganda movie. And then a hidden third half in a parallel dimension that is what the movie really wanted to be about and couldn’t. The movie I thought the trailer was promising us.
Happy Raksha Bandhan! A holiday I don’t get to celebrate at all, because there are no brothers in my family. Yes, even if I count cousins. All girls, all the time, both mother and father’s side of the family. But, at least I can watch movies and pretend this is what it would be like if I had a brother or a cousin-brother. Now, if I am following this correctly, the thinking goes “men wear sweater vests in mountains-many children’s boarding schools are in mountains because it is supposed to be healthier-young men in sweater vests makes us think they are teenagers”. But the way in which these sweater vests come across can vary greatly image to image.
Happy Friday! It was pouring rain this morning, and now it is blazing sunshine. Which is making me think, “Sunglasses!” It’s not the most original photo series idea, but it is always good. Because sunglasses obscure your eyes, which make you look more otherworldly and better than us mortals. Also, easier to see you as just manmeat, and not a person!

I saw Naam Shabana last night and I was sooooooooooo sleepy that I couldn’t bring myself to write a review before I went to sleep. Although I did post a podcast. Anyway, now I am awake! And ready to write.

My first Hindi Film 101 series was on the Kapoors which took FOREVER. So I am doing a nice little refreshing change and doing a simple 2 generation family (so far) with only 2 major stars in it (so far). The Khanna-Kapadia-Kumars!

WILL SMITH!!! What the heck is he doing in India? More specifically, what the heck is he doing at a Rustom success party at Akshay Kumar’s house? I mean, it looks like a fun party. Not some huge fancy wedding/Karan Johar style thing, just a relaxed house party. But still! How do they even know each other?
Forbes came out with their top earning actresses list yesterday, and the top earning actors list today. While yesterday Deepika was the only Indian news, today there are FOUR Indian actors on the list. Plus Jackie Chan right at the top at number 2. So, yeah, Hollywood watch out! Asia is coming for you! (also, Shahrukh is the highest Indian on the list! Woot-woot!)
