Remember way way back when I asked for suggestions/requests for Sunday posts? Pride and Prejudice (here) and North and South (here) were tops. And then neither of those posts ended up getting many views, so I sort of veered off that list. But I don’t have any fresh ideas this week, so I am veering back to it and taking the 3rd one down, Persuasion.

Really Good Shahrukh Photo, Gets Me Thinking About Why We Love His Romances (Jab Harry Met Sejal)
No real reason for this post beyond it being late on Friday (TGIF just wasn’t brainless enough), and me just stumbling across one image that was too good not to share. And heck, any excuse to discuss the unique appeal of SRK!
TGIF: Jagga Jasoos Themed! Men in Sweater Vests
Now, if I am following this correctly, the thinking goes “men wear sweater vests in mountains-many children’s boarding schools are in mountains because it is supposed to be healthier-young men in sweater vests makes us think they are teenagers”. But the way in which these sweater vests come across can vary greatly image to image.
New Jab Harry Met Sejal Song! Guarantee of a Happy Ending?
Another song! They are coming fast and furious now, it’s getting closer and closer! Oh geez, I have to figure out new angles for my Shahrukh Week, don’t I? Veer-Zaara for Shahrukh as a Punjabi? A third post on how ridiculous it is that Shahrukh didn’t end up with Anushka in Jab Tak? I can talk about that forever!
New Jab Harry Met Sejal Song and A Gentlemen Trailer!
Shahrukh is not being very considerate to me! I have this bonkers week (my family is staying about an hour and a half outside of the city, so I am commuting back and forth and they are keeping me up all night with family stuff and then I have to drive drive drive to work the next day), and I get up this morning thinking maybe I will have a little time to, like, brush my hair, but no! Shahrukh has just posted a 5 minute video that I have to watch instead. Oh, and also Siddharth has a trailer, but it’s not as long and I don’t have to watch as closely. And neither of them used subtitles, because they hate me because I am disgusting and live in a car and never wash my hair.
DDLJ Part 23: Shahrukh is Here Only for Kajol
I’m back! We’ll see how this goes. I’ve cut Hindi Film 101 down to once a week to give me a little breathing space, and I get to pick if it is Tuesday or Thursday. That should help. (DDLJ full index here)
New Jab Harry Met Sejal Song Trailer! Also, Twitter is Terrifying
Well, this was interesting! For the first time ever, I got to experience the twitter madness of waiting for a song trailer to come out. Because usually the time zones/my interest level doesn’t allow for it. And I have to say, twitter is a cesspool of stupidity and misinformation! Who knew? Anyway, I am glad I usually stay off of it. Although this was kind of fun to experience once.
New Jab Harry Met Sejal Trailer! PLOT ALERT!!!! (Also, Subtitles! Shahrukh Loves Me Again!)
Yaaaay, another cute trailer! Which basically gives away the entire plot! But it’s a good plot, so I’m fine with that. Really, most of the time I think if you don’t want to see a movie once you know the plot, then it’s a baaaaaaad movie. We should enjoy films for more than just the plot, there are the characters and the dialogue and everything else. And this film is definitely going to be about the characters. (oh, and it was posted with subtitles right from the start, so I think this is a clear sign that Shahrukh is reading my blog and loves me)
Silly Sunday Speculative Post: Jab Tak Hain Jaan, I fixed it!
I was hoping I could do this on Yash’s birthday or half birthday or something, like I did for Karan, but there’s no special occasion I could find, and I had this post idea poking around in my head, so heck, I’m just going for it.
TGIF: In Honor of the 4th of July, I Declare Independence….From Clothes! (NSFW)
I was going to do something slightly more highbrow. Indian movie stars with the American flag or something. But then I thought “No! Why overthink it?” And so our theme for this week is a Declaration of Independence….from clothing!
Silly Sunday Speculative Post: Pride Themed! (of course) Movies for LGBTQA&H!
You understand that I mean “gay” as a genre, not an insult, right? Kind of horrible that I have to make that clarification. There used to be a movie store in the gay neighborhood of my city that had a series of shelves called “Neighborhood Favorites”. Which was their little pseudonym for movies with same sex romantic plot lines. So maybe I should say that instead, all the Khans, plus Amitabh, should be in “neighborhood favorite” movies.
Happy Pride! My Annual Slashfic celebration
Happy Pride! For once I am NOT in charge of the service at my church, which is around the corner from the parade (our kids have a lemonade stand out front, we rake in the money), so I do not have to go down to the loud crowded hot unpleasant parade area. Instead I get to celebrate by reposting the same fanvid post I put up last year. Thank you slashfic fanvid makers! You are just the best people, and on Pride Sunday, I salute you!
Continue reading25 of My Best SRK Memories for 25 Years of SRK
Kepzandme alerted me to it being SRK’s 25th anniversary in films today, 25 years since Deewana came out. I am sure everyone in the world is doing 25 songs, 25 scenes, 25 films, kind of posts. I’m not going to bother trying to add to that. Instead, I will do something only I can do, and put in my personal 25 best memories, in no particular order.
DDLJ Part 21: Shahrukh Arrives in India and All of Nature Greets Him
The last couple of sections were kind of downers. Everything was going wrong. Kajol was miserable, Amrish was angry, Farida was sad, and the world just felt out of synch. And now here is Shahrukh! Finally! To set the world spinning the right way again. (full index of all DDLJ posts is here)
Jab Harry Met Sejal: Shahrukh Saw My Tweets and Added Subtitles! He Does Love Me! Also, New Teaser
Well, apparently the promotion train is moving at an express pace, and I will need to put up one of these posts every day for the next month and a half (last one here). I guess I am okay with that. Anyway, New Teaser! More importantly, Subtitles!!! Most importantly, Shahrukh loves me and wants me to be happy and is showing it through subtitles on his trailers! I should take this as a sign of his undying devotion to me and go be a Gaurav outside Mannat, right?
New Jab Harry Met Sejal Trailer, STILL NO SUBTITLES!!!! I am Mad at You Shahrukh!!!! Also, French Kiss?
Really quick post, just so we can all discuss. And so those of you who need this information ASAP can get it. New JHMS teaser! I am still cautiously optimistic. Although slightly less so than I was after the last two teasers.
Jab Harry Met Sejal Teaser: Red Chillies!!!! SUBTITLES PLEASE!!!!!! But even without them, I still like it
I was putting this off and putting this off, hoping subtitles would be added so I could do a comprehensive discussion, not just a sort of discussion. But, no luck! So I will put up this kind of placeholder post, and all you lucky people who know Hindi can discuss it in depth, and the rest of us will just leap in once someone at Red Chillies gets around to hitting the magical “English Subs” button on their youtube account.
Pardes: Less “Pardesi” versus “Desi”, more “Classy” versus “Massy” or “Femmy” verus “Manny”
What a good movie! I hadn’t watched it in ages, and this time around I noticed all kinds of themes hidden under the surface that I hadn’t appreciated last time. “Pardes” versus “Des” is just the tip of the iceberg.
Sunday Speculative Post: Raabta Inspired Me! What Other Southern Films Could Be Not-Really-Remade
I don’t want to say that Raabta is better than Magadheera, or even as good. But it is a very clever reimagining which takes the same story but replace the from the southern industry (comedy scenes, action scenes, stalking romance) with the strengths of the Hindi industry (clever dialogue, cutting edge international setting, slightly more complicated characters). So, what other southern films could we do that with? Not that we SHOULD do it, but that we could.
TGIF Post: In Bed!
You know that joke, right? You read a fortune cookie, or something else similarly general and metaphorical and then add “in bed!” to the end to make it sexual. In this case, I am putting all my regular TGIF suspects in bed. Because I just purchased and built my first bed since I left my parents’ house (finally graduating from futons!), and I am very interested in beds right now.
Shahrukh’s Movie Has a Stupid Title, Tubelight Has a Touching Song, and I Still Don’t Know What’s Going on in Jagga Jasoos
I take one day off twitter, and everything happens! It’s not fair! Shahrukh’s movie has a title, and a bunch of new posters, new Tubelight song is up which changes the plot, and Jagga Jasoos…..well, that one doesn’t really change anything, but it sure perplexes me!
Hindi Film 101: Shahrukh’s Filmography Continues! Where Do You Go When You Reach the Top?
Hindi Film 101: Shahrukh’s Filmography, Part 3!
Hindi Film 101: A Journey Through SRK’s Filmography, Part 2!
Well, this is fun! It’s partly a list of every Shahrukh Khan film, but more than that, it is a case study for how a career progressed in the 90s in Bombay. Lots of work, not a lot of hits. And then the 2000s came in, and it was less work and less hits (notice I was able to cover twice as many years in this post as in the last one)
Upcoming Movies! Spyder and Victoria & Abdul and Tubelight
This is thanks to two commentators, Filmilibrarian who reminded me about Victoria & Abdul, and Niki who sent me the Spyder teaser seconds after it dropped. Oh, and then Salman Khan who tweeted the new Tubelight song this morning.
