I finally saw it! 24 hours after most other people. Stupid job, keeping me from watching movies in the middle of the week. Anyway, I’ve seen it now. There was a lot done really well, but there were also some things that were missing. The message was holding back a little somehow.
Aamir tweeted this morning that it was his No. 1 song from the movie, and it is definitely mine! This is the song I have been going on about, the one we hear a snippet of in the trailer and I have been waiting for the full version. Oh, and there’s another song that came out a few days ago and I somehow missed, so I might as well talk about that one too.
Oh boy, I really do not want to write this post! But it was a special request, and it really feels like something I HAVE to do the Friday before Independence Day. But I refuse to watch this movie one more time (ha!) because it makes me way way too sad. So be aware, this will all be based on memories from like 4 years ago, the last time I felt masochistic enough to watch it. Okay, Aamir, you’ve won me over. After seeing that teaser over and over and over and over again, the trailer added enough new to it that I am interested.
So, we’ve all watched “Hawaaiyan” a million times now, right? And we’ve all gotten into the footplay thing in the middle? Or is that just me? In order to celebrate our new shared foot fetish, let’s look at a whole bunch of bare foot photos.
Happy Easter! I am going to cut up cardboard in the basement with my Sunday School class, and then maybe have brunch with Grandpa afterwards to celebrate. Oh, and eat the chocolate bunny that my parents gave me. And also, think about the most Easter-y of all Indian films, Amar Akbar Anthony!
Someone asked on one of my Rani posts if I thought she would ever act again opposite one of her 90s costars in a rom-com. And I think she might, but only if it was a really really good script. And to help the scriptwriters along, here are some suggestions! (of course, she could always just do my K3G sequel idea with Abhishek, or my Taming of the Shrew idea with Aamir)
I don’t know what was up this winter, but everyone I know got sick! I got sick twice, and like really really sick, not just “a little tickle in the throat” sick. And among my friends I heard everything from bronchitis to walking pneumonia. But it is supposed to be over now! Right? Because it is officially Spring? And to celebrate, lets have one last orgy of Vitamin C!

Aaaa! I totally forgot Aamir’s birthday! Luckily, I made a big fuss last year, so I can just update and re-post those posts. It’s still not as much as I did for Shahrukh and Salman, but he is just going to have to be mature and life with that.
Happy Friday! This was a fun one to put together. My first thought for International Women’s Day was a “look at these pretty women!” post, but I already did that. So, I’m going to go a little deeper. International Women’s Day is supposed to be about men respecting women. Doesn’t always work, of course, but that’s the idea. And so I want to put up some pictures of men being happily dominated by women
The Taming of the Shrew, obviously. It’s a super fun play with great characters and plot and some really nice speeches. But also a big bad misogyny section right in the middle that it is very hard to deal with without losing that “comic” touch. But I think we can do it! With careful casting and some gently massaging of the plot.
Poor Aamir. I don’t know if it is even possible for him to surprise us at the box office at this point. Once you reach the limit of how many tickets are even available to sell, and they all sell-out, well then there is no where else to go! I put up my NO SPOILERS review last night after I got home, and then I slept for 5 hours, and now I am at work and all ready to write my SPOILERS review. And then right after work is family dinner tonight, and then I come home and do laundry and wrap 37 presents and empty my sink of dirty dishes and maybe think about finishing decorating my trees. Christmas week releases are not the easiest. So forgive me if this review sounds a little punchy.
I saw Dangal! I am getting no sleep tonight! Oh well, I’m sure I will be able to sleep sometime. Monday? Anyway, I wanted to get a quick NO SPOILERS review up while it was fresh in my mind.
Not like a “mentor who is romantic” (that would be Shahrukh in Dear Zindagi) but as a mentor in the field of romance. He is not great at it, at least as shown in Dil Chahta Hai and, possibly, in this movie.
Dangal is opening 2 days early in America, yaaaaay! So this is my second to last Aamir post, and I get to start Salman week 2 days earlier than I thought I would! Also yaaaaay! Since I am getting close to the end, I’m going to pull out a nice interesting movie, Raja Hindustani!
Just for the joy of it, I am going to write about Tum Mere Ho, potentially the worst movie Aamir has ever been in. One of those movies that it feels like the producer ran out of money so they just stopped filming and called it “the end”. I’m sure I will figure out a way that it relates to Dangal, but mostly just want to remind us all that Aamir has a past before his “great actor” period.
Koffee With Karan report! I was very curious about this episode, because Aamir doesn’t do many interviews. And the Dangal girls haven’t really given any so far. And it didn’t turn out too badly!
I first knew Sarfarosh for the love songs, one of which (“Hoshwalon Ko Khabar”) is one of my all time favorite songs, both the video for it and just the way it sounds on its own. And then a watch the movie, and come to find out that it is barely a romance at all! Which is what, I suspect, it will have in common with Dangal. The Aamir romance is there, sure, but it’s not really a big deal compared to everything else going on.
Happy Aamir Week Day 2! 3 Idiots! One of those movies that I have been avoiding because there is so much to say it overwhelms me. But no more! I’m not going to worry about saying everything, I am just going to say a little bit about one aspect.
I totally forgot about Aamir week for Dangal until TJ Stevens reminded me in the comments. Actually, I was thinking that I would need to start doing something for Salman week, but I guess I can start that after I finish with Aamir. I’ve still got his massive 3 part birthday post from last year, I can always update that and add in some quick reviews or something, right? And maybe just let him have the whole last week of the year to himself, to make up for cutting his birthday celebrations short?
If I were Aamir Khan, I don’t know if I would have released a trailer for another movie today. On the one hand, it gave a little extra buzz around the name “Aamir Khan”, so that’s good for the Dangal release. But on the other hand, the buzz isn’t about Dangal, it is about something else. A risk! Oh, and also a trailer for Gurinder Chadha’s Viceroy House. That’s the one that’s looking to the past, Aamir’s trailer is super cool and modern.
I am sure if I wanted to google “sexy Santa” I could find it. But I don’t want to do that. So instead, I am going to limit myself to one Santa-like element, and look for beards. Sexy men with beards.
