Continue readingHuh. Well, the season is really going now, and it looks like this will be season of interesting personal stories and connections. I am down with that! After Saif-Sara and Janhvi-Arjun, we have another very private and unusual connection between two people. Actually, three people. Because Karan is part of it this time around.
This is mostly just because there is one news story here that is so perfectly crafted to make frequent commentator Angie very angry that I couldn’t resist it. And then I threw in two others just to fluff up the post.
Our last Shahrukh Month Review! So SAD!!!! There is still Jab Harry Met Sejal Day to look forward to on Sunday, but that won’t be a “new” movie to the blog. Oh well, there’s always the much less important holiday seasons of Diwali and Christmas to look forward to once Shahrukh Month is over.

Well, it’s the Friday after Independence Day. I should do something patriotic, right? And all I can think of is the Indian colors. Oh well, good enough. My brain is fried after writing my two recent brilliant Hindi Film 101 pieces (read them! They are very good, even if they don’t have sexy photos and star gossip)
Oh wow, this movie looks so good! I thought it was going to be some sort of kitschy come back thing just riding on Kajol’s popularity, but no, it looks really really good! All on its own. The script idea is great, and Kajol is the perfect person to carry it off.
It’s Kajol’s birthday! YAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! I LOVE her! Love love love! So I am going to do a full 44 reasons I love her, one for every year she’s been alive. Oh boy! (this is an updated and reposted post from last year)

Sorry sorry sorry! Yesterday just completely wiped me out (22 guests is too many guests, especially when one of them has severe dementia and 4 of them are small children). So I literally have not left my bed all day, and every time I try to think straight and come up with a brilliant fanfic, it all just sort of floats away from me. Happy Sunday! I have to go lead a meeting at church in a bit, but first I get to be totally frivolous and ridiculous with the Silly Sunday stories. Hopefully I don’t mix this up with my meeting agenda and accidentally start reading it aloud.
I just randomly felt like writing about this movie. I’ve been avoiding it, because this is one that is really close to my heart and I know it isn’t close to the heart of most people, which is going to be heard for me to take when you comment. But then on the other hand, I should write about it for that very reason, so you can understand what I am thinking, and I can understand what you are thinking. And anyway, it’s Autism Pride Day today, and it was Eid a couple of days ago, so it seems like the perfect time. Plus, I am planning to cover Vishwaroop tomorrow and the two kind of go together.
I’m back! Sorry, it was the screenshots I didn’t have time for. Takes about two hours steady work on my home laptop, and I haven’t had two hours straight at my home laptop in a while. Happy Easter! Not a very long new fanfic this week, I put up my epic Amar Akbar Anthony Easter post from last year to make up.
Oh boy, this is a fun one! I’ve been saving it for a special occasion. Indian women looking fabulous in saris.
On Friday I did a “TGIF” of happy couples, and then I realized that I was kind of skipping to the end, posting the couples without defining “happy” before. And I also find it legitimately fascinating how tricky the public versus private requirements of Hindi film industry marriages are.
I finally watched it! After feeling vaguely like I had watched it for years, and then realizing I had only seen the songs a bunch of times and read the plot summary. And it was just as delightful and lovable and wonderful as I had heard, and the songs were even better in context.
The actual awards list went up earlier, but we all know that doesn’t matter nearly as much as what people wore! Not even joking, in terms of people tuning in for the show, it’s all about who showed up and how big they went. And in terms of how seriously people are taking the awards, and their careers in Hindi film, it is also about how big they went (remember in 2016 Priyanka didn’t even come?)
It only took a month, but I have now finished “Mehndi Laga Ka Rakna”! There’s really a lot in that song, much more than in the other ones. It’s also, I think, only fully “real” song, even “Ruk Ja” feels like it has some fantasy in there, and certainly all the other songs are a mix of real and not-real. (full index of DDLJ coverage here)
I haven’t done one of these in a while, and Shahrukh keeps tweeting his Dubai ads like he is just begging me to mention them, so I might as well. Also, instead of seeing a new movie tonight I went to look at dogs again, so no new movie review. But dog photo at the end of the post!
