New video day! So you can all admire how nice my braid looks. My sister bought me the same hairbrush she uses, and it is sooooooo much better. Brushing and braiding only takes half an hour now instead of an hour. Oh, and Dog Hazel is there at the beginning, and then got bored and walked away to play with her wibble-wobble.

Global Box Office: Sanju Enjoys One Last Week Before Soorma
Box office day! The most exciting day of the week! Well, for me. I love seeing my little numbers and talking about them. (as always, courtesy of Bollywoodhungama)
Combined Birthday Post: All the Brilliant Artists of Indian Film Were Born Today, Sanjeev Kumar, Guru Dutt, and K. Balachander
This is one of those cool coincidences. The two brilliant directors of Indian film, one from Bombay and one from the south, were born exactly 5 years apart to the day. There is something special about July 9th. And, just to put the cherry on top, one of the most brilliant actors in Hindi film history was also born on July 9th.
Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me the Week of Soorma?
Happy Monday! I had a weird weekend, mostly binging Netflix shows and sleeping weird. It was nice, I’ve had way too busy weekends lately, I needed a hunker in and stay home kind of weekend to make up. And now I am back at work, trying to function.
Silly Sunday: The Next Netflix Miniseries I Want to See, Devdas to Bhagat Singh to Nargis
I just spent the entire weekend with Sacred Games, first watching it and then writing about. Which has me thinking about other options for multi-season Netflix style miniserieses that I want to see.
Sacred Games: Episode 7 and 8, Summary and Discussion Space
Final section! If you want to talk about the whole thing and get a summary of it, you can check out the full spoiler review here. This is if you want a summary and discussion of just these episodes.
Sacred Games Episodes 5 and 6: Summary and Discussion Space
This is just to break it down a little so you can discuss and read as you go if you want. The full SPOILERS review is here, if you want to talk about or read about the whole thing.
Sacred Games Episodes 3 and 4: Spoilers and Discussion Space
This is where you can get a summary of what happens in episodes 3 and 4, and where you can discuss what you thought of them. I’m just trying to break down the spoilers a bit, so no matter where you are in the series, you have a place to talk. The place to discuss the full series, or read spoilers for it, is here.
Sacred Games Episode 1 and 2: Summary and Discussion Space
I already did my massive SPOILERS and NO SPOILERS reviews, you can use those to discuss the show as a whole. But I know people are watching along and I don’t want them to risk spoiling others, plus it’s nice to break the discussion down a little sometimes.
Sacred Games Review (SPOILERS): The Start of a Really Interesting Story
Already wrote my no spoilers review, I’m going to do a quick spoiler review here as sort of a catch all, and then do a bunch of tiny little episode by episode reviews so we can talk as we go along.
Sacred Games Season 1 Review (No Spoilers): Terrible Subtitles, Good Ideas
As I feared, I ended up doing nothing today and just binging Sacred Games. Oh well, at least it was a really really good show, so I don’t feel like I completely wasted my day. And I will try to put up little mini-spoiler reviews over the course of the day tomorrow, so we can discuss without spoiling people who haven’t started/finished yet.
Hindi Film 101: Star’s and the Masks They Wear and How to Talk About Them
I just got in trouble again, some more, for discussing and critiquing a star persona which was seen as critiquing the person behind it. Which made me start to think about how I define for myself the star persona versus the person behind it.
Saturday Small Talk: I’m Having Jalebis for Breakfast
Happy Saturday! I have nothing to do for the first weekend in ages. Thank goodness, because I was getting seriously sleep-deprived, and Dog Hazel was getting a bit lonely.
TGIF 2: Additional Chocolate Heroes!!!! The Special Limited Edition High Demand Options
Sorry! Work was NOT FUN today, so I didn’t get quite as complete and extensive as I should have in my original Chocolate heroes post. Which just gives me an excuse for an additional post, with the extra special ones, the imported handcrafted special fillings ones (I may have to dig my emergency chocolate box out of the freezer tonight).
TGIF: Chocolate Heroes for Chocolate Day!!!!
Tomorrow is International Chocolate Day (today is fried chicken day in America-July is an unhealthy month). So I thought I would look at Chocolate Heroes, a phrase specific to Hindi film that makes almost no logical sense and yet you immediately understand what it means. Well, almost immediately.
Trailers! Karwaan, Fanney Khan, Soorma, and a Gold Song!
Trailer fiesta!!!!! Fanney Khan just came out, the others are older but I haven’t written about them yet, and I want to know what you all think of them.
New Youtube Video! Sanju Box Office, and I Look GREAT!!!!
Thank goodness, after my string of hot unhappy looking videos, I finally look good. This is the video to share with people if you want to sell them on my channel! Because, so pretty. It’s really rainy here and I think the soft light, combined with my disgusting tangled hair (I went swimming a lot yesterday) and my nice new shirt ended up with a great look. Oh, and my thoughts are good too. But mostly, don’t I look pretty? Instead of like I am about to die of heatstroke?
Thursday Tamil: I, Shankar Makes Either a Very Deep or a Very Shallow Statement on Image, and I’m Honestly Not Sure Which
Well, here’s another Shankar movie that I am all torn about. Shankar is just not my director.
Random Dog Hazel Post, Reaction to Fireworks, Swimming, and Being Abandoned
I know there is a small subset of you that enjoy these little doggie updates, and I am here to serve! Also, my parents just sent me an ADORABLE photo (the last one) and I can’t resist sharing it. Because I have become That Woman.
Global Box Office Report: Sanju Does Solid, Veere Di Wedding Beats Race 3
I am FINALLY doing my box office report. Sorry for the delay, the July 4th holiday in America messed with my schedule. I am tempted to skip it entirely this week, but it’s also the week after Sanju came out, so it’s an important week. (as always, full figures available here)
Thursday Watching Post: What Are You Reading and Thinking and Watching the Day After a Holiday?
Happy 5th! I’m right now driving from the vacation house to work directly, which means I have to bring Dog Hazel to work with me. But it’s okay, because all my coworkers are in love with her and my boss is out of town. This is Wednesday Watching a day late, because yesterday was a holiday.
Happy 4th of July! Here is the Annual NSFW Independence From Clothes Post!
I put this up last week, a wee bit early, but I am reposting it today. Partly because I am off at the vacation house with no internet access and I need something to fill the day, but also because this is a very in depth and comprehensive post and it did not get nearly the views it deserved last week, so I think you should all give it a second look. There is EVERY actor!!! From Sunil Dutt to Suniel Shetty to Aditya Roy Kapur and even Harshwardhan Rane. A whole fireworks display of manly flesh. Oh, and I added in a few more photos even since last Wednesday. Really, it is EPIC. Continue reading
Happy 4th of July! Let’s Celebrate, Indian Film Style
Happy 4th! Those of you who donate to me on Patreon (you could join them! Just go here) should have gotten a lovely card, and also should have gotten a card for Father’s Day last month (let me know if you didn’t!). For the rest of you, I will give you a digital card in the form of this post.
Hindi Film 101: The Basics of The Ambanis
I completely missed the coverage of the latest Ambani wedding, but I can leap in last minute to give the absolute basic bare bones information about the family for those of you who may not know about them. They are soooooooooooooo important in India, and yet tend to stay out of focus in the rest of the world, so you may not be aware of them if you live somewhere else.
Monday Malayalam: Nee-Na, Complete Failure of the Bechdel Test, and Complete Failure to See the Reality of the Character They Created
I was browsing through einthusan and I saw this movie and thought “oh hey, I’ve heard about this film a lot, I should check it out”. Not a great decision! Really a very odd and strangely regressive film that is supposed to be about two women but is really just about the man torn between them.
