There was a comment on last week’s post, by Asmita I think, about liking it when men are surrounded by strong women. Which sent me down this whole rabbit hole in a direction I don’t think she anticipated, and I have come out the other side with a simple plot in mind that can be applied to any hero. I am excited!
Well, this is FASCINATING! It didn’t hit me until I watched the Chef trailer and then the new Judwaa 2 song right next to each other, but they are both remakes! In ways that couldn’t be more different. A sign that the industry doesn’t know if it should look back, or look out for the new hit.
Well, trailer time is upon us again. We had that little burst during Ramadan, then everything kind of slowed down a bit as JHMS and Toilet dominated the news cycles. But now they are successfully running in theaters, so we can all focus on what’s coming up after them. Two big things out today, full Secret Superstar song and Judwaa 2‘s first trailer. Oh, and Bhoomi came out a few weeks back, I just never got around to writing about it.
We all know that Hindi film loves a love triangle. And usually a blameless love triangle, two good options and one of them loses out through no fault of their own. So, I thought, why not give a happy ending to all of love’s losers? And, just to make this more fun, why not cross streams and give happy endings to losers from different films? And why not make an easy post in which I rapidly run through a whole bunch of different plots without a lot of details?
Crazy at work today, so no time to write anything substantive. But why not a fanvid post? Because it’s been a while.
This is such an indulgence of myself, even more than my Golden Girls post. But I have now finished my dozenth rewatch of the entire run, and I can’t resist. Partly because I want to add songs and stuff, but also because I really really want to tighten up that plot. And make Phoebe end up with the guy she is meant to end up with, not Paul Rudd.
This was going to be an all Varun week, in honor of his birthday (birthday post here). But Vinod has knocked him right off the public consciousness. Sorry Varun! Maybe next year.
Oops, I almost missed this! It’s Varun Dhawan’s birthday! And I know that TJ Stevens in the comments will be mad at me if I ignore it. Especially since it is a big one, 30!
Happy Easter! I am going to cut up cardboard in the basement with my Sunday School class, and then maybe have brunch with Grandpa afterwards to celebrate. Oh, and eat the chocolate bunny that my parents gave me. And also, think about the most Easter-y of all Indian films, Amar Akbar Anthony!
Do you like the title? I’m pretty proud of it. Anyhoo, what it means is that Badrinath was very very very good in overseas figures. Very VERY good.
I’m back! After I scribbled off my No Spoilers Review in the middle of the night, I am now awake (sort of) and am ready for my SPOILERS review! And in this case, I am going to say that you should read this whether or not you have seen the movie. There are already various think pieces going around that critique the film by taking elements in isolation, I want to critique it by taking everything in context.
Final trailer! And it is a mystifying one. I just cannot figure out how it fits in with the other bits of the movie that we have seen so far. Thank goodness I only have 7 more days until I can see the whole thing!
I got a little alert from youtube that one of my fanvid people had just posted a new video, which drove me down a rabbit hole of looking at all the new videos posted by all my youtube people, and some new folks as well.
March is gonna be a GOOD MONTH!!!! Much better than February, where we have that Pakistani rom-com that looks pretty great, and Rangoon, which I am still not very interested in.
So glad that Badrinath Ki Dulhania is being made! And that the first trailer makes it seem like it will be yet another riff on DDLJ, but with a different focus from Humpty Sharma.
Have I mentioned before that the India-America time difference is THE WORST THING IN THE WORLD? It’s just come up again, because Karan Johar tweeted the first poster and first teaser for Badrinath Ki Dulhania about 20 minutes after I went to bed. EVIL!
Well, that headline is just not true. Clearly a three piece suit wearing man is the hottest possible option. But, for this week, I am going to follow a suggestion from Miss Braganza and do a post of men in traditional outfits.
It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, which has allowed the news stories to build and build to the point where I have to deal with all of them at once. Or at least, all the ones that interest me (no, I am not going to touch Tamil politics with a ten-foot pole. Although my Iruvar review is getting all kinds of hits right now!)
It’s a good thing they are charming, because they aren’t really anything else. Not famous, not controversial, not really anything. But charming! Very enjoyable people to spend 45 minutes with.
I missed this, because Star TV didn’t have the courtesy to suspend all broadcasting in honor of Dear Zindagi Week. It’s just the worst when these multinational media conglomerates don’t bother to tailor their products to local cultures. Anyway, catching up now, up first, Varun and Arjun! I’m not quite sure why this is even reported, because there’s the whole story, and then it ends with “but then it didn’t happen and may never have been a real thing after all!” I guess the story is that it was even a little bit believable to begin with?
It’s like a little “before and after” picture for stardom! Two news stories, one about Varun Dhawan, established young hero with a booming career, and one about Harshvardhan Kapoor, struggling to make it with his big break film about to release. Both of them are making very savvy choices for where they are at the moment, but they are in very different places.
It’s official, Fawad’s not coming back for the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil promotions. Probably a good idea.
One of the people I follow on youtube just posted a new video that I really liked, so then I dug up a few more videos I like, and voila! A post! I’m gonna get to a thousand within my first year of blogging if it kills me!
