I say “rerun”, but I actually did quite a bit of rewriting of this review, so it’s mostly totally new. Hopefully you like it!

Friday Classics: Eklavya, a Movie that Comes in Just at the Ending
Happy Friday! I managed to get through the week somehow! Well, almost, I’ve got one more day left. But yesterday was the day when the staff went from 4 to 1 (me). Today and Monday it will be back up to 2, and then by Tuesday it will be all the way to 4 again (woo).
Next Friday Classic Announcement: Eklavya, The Royal Guard, A Late Birthday Present for Amitabh
Have you ever wanted to see Amitabh, Vidya, Saif, Sanjay Dutt, Sharmila Tagore, Boman Irani, and Jackie Shroff all in the same movie? And all playing magnificent complex interesting roles? Then, this is the film for you!
Saturday Small Talk: Let’s Chat the Day Away on Gulzar’s Birthday!
Happy Saturday! I woke up way too early and am trying to go back to sleep. But you folks can chat while I sleep (hopefully).
Silly Sunday: Happy Birthday Sanjay, Here is My Best Sanjay FanFic EVER
Sorry sorry sorry! Yesterday just completely wiped me out (22 guests is too many guests, especially when one of them has severe dementia and 4 of them are small children). So I literally have not left my bed all day, and every time I try to think straight and come up with a brilliant fanfic, it all just sort of floats away from me. So I am doing a reprint and failing you, my faithful readers. Oh well, at least it is a really good reprint, based on Daboo Ratnani photos and Sanjay Dutt and his dog. Continue reading
Lazy Thursday Discussion Post: What in a Trailer Makes You Go “Yeah, I’ll Watch That Movie” (Inspired By John in Police Uniform in Satyamev Jayete)
It’s hot, the week isn’t over yet, and I am trying to avoid starting Sacred Games (it’s just SO BIG. I’m hoping if I carry it around with me everywhere, I can read it by osmosis). So, let’s have a totally frivolous and silly discussion!
Silly Sunday: 4 Preston Sturges Classics To Be Remade!!!!
I know the Venn diagram overlap of Preston Sturges and Indian film fans is very empty, possibly just contains me, but I don’t care! It’s “silly Sunday”, I can be silly and do whatever I want.
Female Lead Films in Hindi Outside of the Standard List
I already did action film and rom-com lists to match this. My goal is, once you have finished the list of DVDs recommended on websites, or by the librarian, or handed to you in the DVD store, what next? And there is a surprisingly long list of films with strong female central characters in Hindi film.
Bonus Silly Sunday! Female Devdas!
Angie asked on Monday if there were any female Devdas-type stories, and we couldn’t come up with something exactly right. So obviously, I have to write it.
Silly Sunday: For Women’s Day! Movies About Strong Women
Happy Sunday! This week, a collection of movies about strong survivor type women. Going with just outlines again, because I love it when you help me fill in the outlines! Oh, and if you are looking for SRK, he is at the last story.
Silly Sunday: FanFic We Wrote on Monday!
This was fun, I didn’t have to write anything this week! We wrote it all together on Monday in bits and pieces, I just had to pull it together and make sense of it for this.
Hindi Film 101: Stars as Commodities, Directors as Parents, Money Money Money
There were 3 interesting industrial news stories in one day, which I want to use as jumping off point to discuss how money and art intersect in Hindi film. The first two are short and kind of set the stage, the last one is the very interesting one that relates to the whole history of how film finances work. (this was originally posted as a news round-up, but it really makes more sense as a Hindi Film 101)
Silly Sunday: International Day of Women and Girls in Science! Vidya Balan Female Scientist With Supportive Men in Her Life
My sister, who does math, just forwarded me an email reminding her to celebrate the “international day of women and girls in science”. Which I feel can best be celebrated by an epic fanfic about how hard and ultimately rewarding it can be to be a woman in science.
News Round-Up: SRK Gets an Award, Shraddha Gets a Movie, Salman Gets a Death Threat, Vidya Gets Indira
More news! Going back to my post this morning, it really feels like Padmavat has been holding us hostage for the past 2 months. And now, suddenly freed, there is all kinds of news popping up all over, interesting news.
2017 DCIB Hindi Film Awards: Best Character, Editor’s Choice, Tumhari Sulu
This was a really close one, between Sulu/Vidya Balan in Tumhari Sulu and Dev/Akshaye Khanna in Ittefaq. Vidya won by just a little bit, but mostly because she was the title cahrater and got a little more time onscreen. This is just my choice, if you want to vote for yourself, go here and place your vote in the comments.
TGIF: Happy Christmas and World AIDs Day! Women (and a few men) in Red
Happy Friday! My goodness this has been a frustrating day. The second I get in to anything at work the phone rings and I have to stop. Whether it is blogging or sending an email or doing accounting stuff for work-work, I just don’t have long enough to be able to focus on it. I am writing this right now at about 2pm, we’ll see if I am able to finish and publish this thing before midnight. Anyway, Red! For AIDs and Christmas!!!
Box Office Report: Mahira Rules in Canada, Karthi in America, Vidya Everywhere
Did anyone notice I skipped last week? I did! Travel and careful number calculations do not go together well. But now I am home again, and ready to catch up. And maybe even put up a video, if the sun comes out again. (as always numbers courtesy of renttrack by way of bollywoodhungama, full info available here)
Tumhari Sulu Review (SPOILERS): The Value of Emotional Labor
I put up the No Spoilers review for this back on Saturday, but I wasn’t in a huge hurry to get the spoiler review out. It’s a slow build kind of film, I am guessing interest will be higher on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday than it was on Saturday. Plus, I had to spend 4 hours at church on Sunday and then make two cakes and a pie, so there wasn’t much time for writing.
Tumhari Sulu Review (No SPOILERS): Vidya Balan Makes Us Fall in Love With Her Again
What a nice movie! Good people working together to figure out how to make their lives better. Well, how to make Vidya Balan’s life better, because she is the one who counts.
Silly Sunday Post: Happy 11 Days to Shahrukh’s Birthday! 11 Adaptations He Should Be In!
I am sure you will all have Thoughts in the comments about what I should have included and did not, along with what I included and shouldn’t have, and various other changes I should have made. And that’s fine, think of this as just a starting point!
Trailers! Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana and Tumhari Sulu
We’ve already talked a little about both these movies, but it felt like they deserved their own post so everyone can see and discuss them. And thus, this post!
Trailers! Golmaal 4 Trailer, Mersal Teaser, Tumhari Sulu
Well isn’t this nice! A bunch of new trailers for me to pick over. Some with more info than others, so you will have to help me fill in the gaps in the comments.
Happy Independence Day! Post 4, Lage Raho Munna Bhai
Happy Independence Day in Advance! Like I said, I am tossing these posts out on a more or less daily basis until the 15th. Partly because it’s a big holiday that deserves to be celebrated, partly because I want to give options to those of you who are not interested in my JHMS scene by scene. These aren’t “real” posts (except for Rang De Basanti, I can’t skimp on that one), they are just quick little idea posts about the films, so don’t expect me to go super in depth here.
Silly Sunday Speculative Post: Pride Themed! (of course) Movies for LGBTQA&H!
You understand that I mean “gay” as a genre, not an insult, right? Kind of horrible that I have to make that clarification. There used to be a movie store in the gay neighborhood of my city that had a series of shelves called “Neighborhood Favorites”. Which was their little pseudonym for movies with same sex romantic plot lines. So maybe I should say that instead, all the Khans, plus Amitabh, should be in “neighborhood favorite” movies.
Trailers! Kahaani 2 and Rock On 2! (One of These Sequels is Better Than the Other)
Kahaani 2 trailer out today! And Rock On 2 trailer out yesterday, but I’m not as interested in that one.
