Ivide: What Makes Someone Indian, What Makes them American, and What Makes Them Both?

This movie is about a lot of different things, but what leaps out at me is they way it handled the hero’s childhood adoption into an American family.  It managed the difficult task of avoiding any easy answers, acknowledging the challenges of the situation without blaming anyone for them.

Important Music News! Mirzya Album is Out!!!! A Refresher On Why This is Exciting

I may have mentioned this a few dozen times before, but Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are my all time favorite composers.  They have been since I first heard the Lakshya album when I was 19.  And they have a new album out!!!!  Mirzya full songs are available on Saavn, which presumably means they are available on itunes, spotify, and all the other websites the kids these days use.

Befikre Teaser!!!!!! A Move Towards Sexual Freedom!

Why is this not bigger news?  Out of all the people I follow on twitter, only industry analyst/journalist Taran Adarsh tweeted it.  And it only had like 20 thousand views on youtube when I last watched it.  Maybe the content is making Adi look for a slower roll-out?

Wanna Watch a Movie With Me (again)? Sept 18th, 11am EDT! Only 10 Days Away!!!

A few months back, we did a twitter watch along for K3G, which was super fun!  There were a couple of newbies who we got to introduce to the film, and some old hands who were super excited to share their favorite parts.  (you can get a sense of what it was like here)

So, we’re now organizing another one!  September 18th, 11am EDT.  Kal Ho Na Ho this time (following the theory that it is available on Netflix and other streaming services, and pretty newbie friendly!).

Here is the link to more information on my publisher’s website (she is much more twitter adept than I am!).  Hope to “see” a lot of you there!

And in case you forgot how fun Kal Ho Na Ho is to watch, here is a reminder!

Happy Birthday Akki Baby!!! 49 Reasons I love you!!!

49 years old today!  Making him the middle child of the old school 90s stars.  Younger than the Khan “triplets”, but older than Ajay.  Anyway, Akshay is so big, he definitely deserves a full list of reasons, one for every year.  And he is so old, that I am going to have to split those reasons in half!  So, here are the first 24, right after midnight India time.

Mammootty’s Birthday and Shahrukh’s Dwarf Film

These two things have nothing in common, don’t even try to find a connection.  But moviemavengal tweeted me about Dulquer’s gift to his Dad, and another commentator pointed out that it was Mammootty’s birthday today and now I feel bad for not acknowledging it at all.  Although I did happen to post my Jagratha review today, so that’s cool!

Jagratha CBI: Where did that Ending Come From?

My first CBI movie!  Which I am aware is not actually the “first” CBI movie.  But it is the first CBI movie that einthusan has with subtitles, so I wanted to jump on it before it went away.  I couldn’t believe how dark it got, with the motivations and plot twists, but at the same time how clear and sensible the tone was, it never got bogged down in emotions.

Happy Day After Labor Day/Fall!!!

Happy Day After Labor Day!  An odd holiday, most other places celebrate it in May, but in America we do things differently.  It’s also our unofficial end of summer/beginning of Fall holiday.  Schools start after Labor Day, you aren’t supposed to wear white (white is a “summer” color) after Labor Day, everyone has their last cookout and then puts the grill away for the year.  Which means today is the beginning of my favorite season, Fall!

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil Song Video is OUT!!!!!

I was going to stay up all night waiting for Karan to release it on twitter, after he teased it would be sometime today (in India).  Thank goodness I didn’t, because he released it like an hour ago, so I would have been up all night.  But, yay!  Now it’s here!

Dhanak: Not Just For Shahrukh Fans, for Fans of Small Children and Blind Faith as Well!

I mostly watched Dhanak, because the one sentence description made me think it would be a good Shahrukh fan watch.  And it was, certainly.  He comes off very well in it.  But most of the movie is just about the two small children we are following, and their performances are so delightful, that’s what really makes the film.  If you have access to American Netflix, it is streaming now, and I highly recommend it.

Aval Shanmughi: Once Again, Kamal Haasan is the Best, and Everyone Else Therefore Has to Be The Worst

I am trying SO HARD not to call this Chachi 420!  Not that I ever saw Chachi 420, it was just so heavily promoted, and the title is so catchy, it’s hard not to use it instead of the original.  On the other hand, not hard at all to avoid calling this Mrs. Doubtfire, because it changed the biggest message of Mrs. Doubtfire when it translated it to a Kamal Haasan film.

Happy Indian Teacher’s Day!!!

Okay, how many Teacher’s Days ARE there?!?!?  I already did the American/International Teacher’s Day, and Guru Purnima (click the links if you feel the need to review former teacher songs), and now there’s ANOTHER Teacher’s Day?  Just for India?  Thank goodness there are so many teacher songs!
