Ready for a bunch of inspirational stories? They were down, they were hopeless, it was all impossible, and then against the odds they rose up again!!!!!! I am going to be so sick of inspiration by Independence Day, hopefully I can still enjoy Gold.
You know how sometimes you just need a little jolt of anger around mid-afternoon to keep you going? Not big anger about stuff that actually matters, but just gossip news incited anger. I am here for you!
Boy, it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these! Rest assured, I have been reading the headlines and stuff all along, I just haven’t been writing about them.
Happy Monday! I was up way way too late watching and then reviewing Kammara Sambhavam, and now I am trying to stumble through a day at work. Help keep me awake with questions!
This is a very very very specific post. Our nice commentator/friend Angie got Maddy to read and retweet my Breathe reviews, so in return I shall give her a nice theme TGIT post. That theme being “here are all the men you like in a variety of outfits and poses”. And then on tomorrow I will do a “normal” TGIF post that more than one reader will enjoy.
First, if you are in a grumpy “I hate romance and love and couples!” mood, that is your right, and you should go watch Anjaam and look at yesterday’s “men in wet shirts” post. But if your mood is more “falala, happiness and flowers and my boyfriend/husband is so awesome!”, then this will just serve to increase that feeling. Or, alternatively, if you are in a sort of miserable “there are no happy couples or true love in the world” vibe, this will convince you that is false. Also, I have a clear and declared winner for the Best Couple Award, you will have to convince me out of it.
I already posted my “no spoilers” review, and you might want to read that instead of this one, even if you are familiar with the “real” story, because the movie takes some interesting liberties with it.
I braved the snow, a huge traffic jam, and using my moviepass card for the first time (it worked! Like a little miracle) all so I could see this movie. And it wasn’t half bad! As a movie. As a “message” or as a version of the true story, it could have been improved, but as a movie it was a nice solid film.
Yesterday was Day of News, today is Day of Trailers. Ajay’s new movie, first teaser for Akshay’s next or, as I think of it, Reema Kagti’s next. And a song from Welcome to New York. And Veerey Ki Wedding, just to round things out.
So many news items about upcoming movies! Mostly how they are being released early, or released late, or starting filming. Just a lot of date talk, really. Which isn’t very interesting on the surface, but is super super interesting when you dig in and think about what those dates mean. And this is just part one, I am breaking it into two parts so we can more easily keep comments focused. Part two here
Okay, there are a few images beginning to filter out of the calendar-that-isn’t-a-calendar. For newbies, Dabboo is the biggest celebrity photographer. And every year, he gets together with his celebrity friends and shoots a calendar. 24 images, which are revealed at a party in January, and then 24 copies of the calendar are made and given to the models. That’s it, you can’t buy it, and the images aren’t made available to the public. Except through illegal fuzzy reprints that slowly leak out on the internet over the course of the next 24 hours. Which is their purpose, to be leaked so we all know Dabboo’s name and he gets publicity. Dabboo Dabboo Dabboo.
Well, here’s exciting news! For the first time since these things started being tracked, Shahrukh Khan is NOT the most valuable celebrity brand in India!!!! Instead, he has been knocked off his perch by Virat Kohli. Which made me start thinking in a different way about Virat, about Shahrukh, and about all the other perches Shahrukh should be knocked off of.
I don’t know what it was, maybe it was just the holidays or maybe it was Padmavat/Padmavati driving everything else away, but the past month or so it has felt like there is no “actual” news. Like, no one is officially announcing anything, no one is bothering to do even the littlest bit of investigation to find out about a fact, it’s all just reporting of people having opinions. But no more! A new era has dawned and there is SO MUCH actual news today!
Salman is everywhere today! Sometimes actually mentioned, sometimes just implied. I guess that’s fair, it is his Birthday Week after all.
Remember how I was so sick yesterday I had to put up rerun posts? Keep that in mind, it may have made me a bit irritable.
This is I think the first serious review I wrote. Back when no one was reading me. So I am reposting it so you can enjoy it now. And also because I am too sick to write new content today, all that sitting up and focusing.
Happy Dharmendra’s birthday (again). To celebrate we are going to have a bit of a rigged contest, Dharam against all comers. But obviously, Dharam will win. Partly because it is his birthday and I want to be nice, and partly because he just is the best.
Mostly I wanted to do a video to play with my new toy, moviemavengal gave me a lapel mic as an early Christmas present. I think it works pretty well! The video is too sunny and my head isn’t exactly centered, but by golly the microphone is perfect!
Happy first Sunday of Advent! Naturally, I had to do a Christmas themed post (to match my Christmas themed TGIF post). I briefly considered doing unmarried mothers in honor of Mary, but then I decided to think small instead and use the random small items of Christmas as jumping off points for story ideas.
I am finally on schedule again! Ha-Ha!!!! And if I manage to watch and write over the Thanksgiving break (along with re-organizing my kitchen), I might actually get ahead! I could start 2018 with all my decks clear, fully blog-ready! Or I will get super behind and put up a bunch of reposted posts and almost forget Salman’s birthday again. Oh well, it’s his own fault for being born the day after Christmas.
No Shahrukh, so sad! But I can do my belated Halloween post with ghosts! Nice ghosts, because I don’t like scary ones.
I just did a news post on Saturday, and yet there are already new stories out there! How does this keep happening? It’s like the news never stops or something.
It has come up every once in awhile that there aren’t as many really family type films as their used to be. And it has also come up that the past few Sundays have been extremely sexy. So, no sex! Just fun family times this week! Which probably means my view count will suffer, but oh well. (if you want sex, you can check out last week’s post)
3 random disconnected posts, one that is just to assuage my guilt for always being mean to Akshay, the other that came up in the comments from Karthik (congrats Karthik! Your first fanfic suggestion!), and the 3rd was something I said as a joke in the TGIF post but now I kind of want to do it for real.
See? I listen! You have a lengthy argument about the olden days when men were men and chests were chests, and I provide you with images! I considered a fanfic, but I can’t come up with a plot that revolves around chest hair (something 101 Dalmatians inspired about fur coats?). I’m sorry! Even my imagination has limits.
